The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 2133 Just In Case

Making up her mind, Sheryl was determined to make Ferry pay for his wrongdoing.

Realizing that Sheryl had already forgiven him, Charles took his chance to apologize at once, "No, Sher, you didn't do anything wrong. I am the one who should be blamed. I shouldn't have kept you in the dark for so long. I can only imagine how worried and sad you were during those times. As their father, I am supposed to protect our kids from any harm. Sher, I'm sorry."

"Charles!" Sheryl exclaimed, throwing herself into Charles' arms. Her eyes were watery. She could feel her heart beating strongly inside her chest. Thinking that Clark was still in the hands of the bad guys, she felt worried.

"Charles, we need to hurry and replace a way to get Clark back. We can't just wait here."

"Well, that's the reason why I asked you to come here," Charles started. Holding her chin to lift her face, he prompted her to take a look at him. "Listen! Sher, you must do as I tell you, and make no mistakes..." Charles told Sheryl his plan in detail. The latter listened carefully, trying to grasp as much as she could.

A few minutes later, shock registered on Sheryl's face. As much as Charles' plan seemed well-thought of, it would take a lot to perfectly execute it. As mentioned earlier, there was no room for errors. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Sheryl asked, looking into his eyes.

Charles nodded his head and answered firmly, "Rachel hates me. If Vicky is indeed Rachel, she would take this as a very good opportunity to kill me."

"But it means that you will take a huge risk yourself..." Sheryl appealed, feeling worried about Charles.

"Don't worry about me. I promise to be careful. As long as you can do as I tell you, my plan will work," Charles assured her.

"All right." Sheryl nodded. She knew that Charles had made up his mind, so there was no way she could change it. All she could do now was to support him and do her part.

The streets were already dark when Sheryl returned to Dream Garden. As soon as she entered the house, she found Melissa and Nancy anxiously waiting for her in the living room, just as she had expected. "Good evening, Mom, Nancy," Sheryl greeted them, seeing as they both turned when she stepped into the room.

Seeing Sheryl had finally arrived, Melissa got excited. She jumped to her feet and rushed to meet her, throwing herself at Sheryl.

"Sher, I called you so many times, but you never picked up. How is Charles? Did you... " Melissa lowered her head and started to cry, the rest of her words fading as she sobbed.

Sheryl knew that she had to comfort her mother-in-law, so she held her hand and said, "Mom, don't worry. Charles is fine. He really is."

"Really?" Melissa raised her head and asked in between sobs. Her eyelashes were still wet. She wiped the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hands. At the sight, Sheryl almost wanted to laugh. "Charles is still in a coma, but he is fine," Sheryl explained, trying not to go into any details.

"So why did the doctor ask you to come?"

"It was a false alarm. They misjudged the data and thought Charles was in danger. But I only learned about it when I got there. I was really scared out of my wits by then." Sheryl tried keeping her tone relaxed. Melissa felt relieved upon hearing the good news. But then she remembered. "What about Clark? Did you hear back from the kidnappers already? My poor Clark is still in those people's hands. How can I even feel at ease when I keep thinking about our poor little Clark?"

Sheryl's face dimmed. She nodded and assured Melissa, "Mom, don't worry. I'll figure it out. Anyway, is Shirley asleep?" Sheryl asked, turning towards Nancy.

"Yes, Shirley is sleeping already. Sher, you must be tired too. Are you hungry? You always forget to eat on time when you're busy. Come, I'll cook something for you quickly, and then you can go back into your room and take a rest," Nancy said attentively.

"Thank you, Nancy, but you don't have to do that. I have something urgent to deal with. Anyway, just take good care of mom. Call me if you need anything," Sheryl advised. She had something urgent to attend to at this time and had only gone home to personally advise Melissa on Charles' condition.

Seeing that Sheryl was about to leave, Nancy immediately took a step forward, trying to block her and said, "It's already late. I think it would be better if you will take a rest for now and attend to your business tomorrow morning. But if I really can't stop you." Nancy stepped aside and said, "Please be careful. Drive safely!"

Melissa was also surprised that Sheryl had to go at this time. She wondered if Sheryl was doing this because she was deeply worried about Clark, so she immediately asked, "Sher, are you going to try and look for Clark at this hour? It's so late. It's not safe out there. You should listen to Nancy and just stay here. If you really want to go, would you like me to come with you?"

Seeing that Melissa was so nervous and worried about her, Sheryl was moved. Though she knew that Melissa was overthinking it, still, she smiled and replied, "Mom, I have an appointment with my friend. It's okay. Don't worry about me."

"A friend? Who? Do I even know her?" Melissa shot all her questions at once in disbelief.

It was already late, and Sheryl claimed she was going out to meet a friend. Melissa couldn't avoid getting suspicious about it. She immediately thought that Sheryl was going out to see Damian. With Clark missing and Charles unconscious, Melissa thought that Sheryl might be seeking support from another man, someone she could lean on. And there was no other person that she could think of to fit that part, other than Damian.

Melissa knew that her thoughts were like poison to her relationship with Sheryl, and it made her feel uncomfortable. The more that she got reminded of Damian, the more she grew against Sheryl's decision to go out. She wouldn't allow Sheryl to see that man.

"Mom, I am going to see Vicky for a quick chat," feeling how stressed Melissa was, Sheryl knew that it would be better to explain herself, so she told Melissa part of the truth.

"What?" Melissa was shocked. "Why are you going to meet with her? That woman is shameless. As soon as Charles wakes up, I will drive her away. You don't need to worry about her. I will take care of that bitch!" Melissa said, anger flashing from her face.

"No, Mom," Sheryl replied. "I want to talk with her and see if we can clear any misunderstandings between us. When Charles wakes up, I will definitely be the one to stay with him. I want to talk to Vicky and ask her to leave Charles voluntarily. That way, we will no longer need to argue with each other when that day comes. Don't you think it's a good idea, Mom?"

Hearing Sheryl's plan, Melissa felt surprised. She didn't expect Sheryl to be so enduring, and it made Melissa change her outlook on her daughter-in-law.

'Who will be so kind to another woman, knowing that the person intends to covet her husband?' Sheryl did not only stop blaming Vicky, but she was also willing to take the initiative to persuade Vicky to leave Charles. It was really unbelievable. Only a few people could do it.

Nodding her head with that thought, Melissa confirmed how she admired Sheryl even more. "All right. If that woman still tries to be stubborn, you can just call me, and I'll deal with her." "Thank you, Mom. I have to go now." Sheryl nodded in agreement and took her chance to leave.

Still worried about Sheryl leaving this late, Melissa reminded her, "Be careful on your way. If possible, ask Isla to go with you. How about...I could ask my driver to drive you there?"

"I'm okay, Mom. I can manage. I'm leaving now." Sheryl couldn't afford any more delays, so she turned around and started to leave.

"Drive safely."

Melissa's voice came from behind, as Sheryl walked out and closed the door behind her. She felt touched.

Making her way out of the house, she realized that she finally got Melissa's acceptance as her daughter-in-law. She was so happy about the progress of her relationship with Melissa. Now she greatly believed that she and Charles would never be apart, and their family would be reunited forever. But this happiness was still partial, as she was still worried about Clark's disappearance. Clark might be living on the corner of some street right now. It pained her to not know what kind of life he was having.

Sheryl decided that she wouldn't force herself to think about anything else. The only thing she should focus on now was to act according to Charles' plan. If she could act as good as Charles expected her to, things would go well.

When she walked out of Dream Garden, a car was already waiting for her, just as she had been told. Seeing that Sheryl just came out, the driver stepped out and greeted her respectfully, "Mrs. Lu, please get in the car."

Charles had arranged the car for her.

Ferry's men had, after all, carefully planned to harm Charles and the people that he loved. Knowing that was the case, Charles took action to protect them, especially his beloved wife. Charles knew that even if Ferry had gotten Clark in his hand, he must have wanted more of his family members as leverage.

Therefore, Charles insisted that Sheryl should be under his protection. And Sheryl agreed to that.

Sheryl nodded and got into the car silently.

Soon enough, the engine started. The car's headlights cut towards the silent and dark street outside Dream Garden as it made its way to its destination.
