Elias held her even tighter as if telling her not to be afraid. Even though they were in the dark, for amoment, Amanda felt like the world around her was filled with light. “What kind of sound is that?”Amanda blurted.

Before Elias could answer, Taylor flew into a rage. He wanted to hit Elias, but the darkness preventedhim from seeking the guy out, so he roared. “What the hell are you doing? You hurt my sister badlyenough, so stop this right now!”

Nobody was sure that Rosie was just faking her madness. If her madness was real, she might faintfrom fear just from hearing these sounds alone. Taylor whirled around and stormed off. He wanted totell the butler to turn the switch on. The whole place is like a dark dungeon. There’s no tay Rotie isgoing to come out. She might trip and fall. The place is filled with staircases, after all. If she were to fallfrom the stairs. Taylor didn’t finish that thought. It was too terrifying to even think about.

Elias, however, was unbelievably calm. He was waiting for the rest of the recording to be played.

Amanda aked, “It’s a bit too far, don’t you think? What if we actually drive her insane with this?”

Just then, a woman’s voice started playing. Like a hurt little doe, the voice said, “Miss? It’s me, Maria_”

Amanda’s eyes went wide. Even in the darkness, Elias could feel her freezing with shock. Theloudspeakers were installed all around the house, so no matter where anyone was hiding, they couldnot escape the accusation of this ecrie voice.

“You.” Amanda raised her head. Even at this distance, all she could make out was an outline, but theair he radiated was filled with icy cruelty.

Elias held her waist tighter. Darkly, he said. “We have no choice. I only care about the outcome.”

At the same time. Taylor was scouring the house, summoning the butler. He wanted the butler to turnon the switch and switch off the loudspeakers. I don’t want Rosie to get madder than this.

He then heard Maria’s voice, and his eyes were filled with shock. How does he even know about that?When did Amanda tell him that? “Get over here right now, Stefan! Where in the good lord’s name areyou? Turn the switch on!”

Rosie hid herself in this house’s secret chamber. Only she and her father knew of this chamber. Noteven Taylor had any idea of it. She did hear the conversation between Elias and Amanda the nightbefore, and she couldn’t believe that Amanda and Elias did consummate the marriage and had a son.

For a moment, she was seized by the impulse to charge inside and kill Amanda, but she couldn’t. Thecase of Maria’s murder was still in its limitation period. She couldn’t regain her sanity out of nowhere. Atthe very least, she must wait two years. She must hide and keep herself out of everyone’s eyes.

However, the sudden blackout shocked her. A blackout in this household? How is that possible? Andthen, a woman’s cries echoed in the air. Eventually, the woman’s voice said, “Miss? it’s me, Maria…”

Rosie broke down. Her whole head was filled with the memory of her pushing Maria down the staircaseby accident, and Maria’s voice was playing out over her head. Maria had been by her side for manyyears, carrying out her every order. She adored Maria, but Elias’ continued rejection and neglect droveher to

the brink of a breakdown, and she was annoyed by everyone she saw.

She didn’t mean to kill Maria. That was an accident, but when she hurried down to hold her up. Mariawas no longer breathing. She held the body of her steward, shivering and at a loss. Eventually, thebutler found them and took Maria to the hospital. She went through a night of treatment, but the doctorsaid it was too late.

Maria’s family wanted to take Rosie to court. If she didn’t feign madness, she would have to face jailtime, and she didn’t want that. If she was convicted, she would no longer be worthy of Elias. He wouldonly look down on her more. Only one thought filed her head at that time.

I must not go to jail. She started feigning madness, and years went by since then. Sometimes shethought she was actually going insane. There are only two years left. Once the limitation period is over,I can go back to my old life.

However, she had no idea that Elias had gotten married and had a child.

The darkness was suffocating. Rosie couldn’t see anything, and yet she could feel Maria’s presenceeverywhere. Back at the rehab center, she would see Maria every time she closed her eyes. Her deadsteward would be covered in blood, calling out to her over and over again.

Fear was chipping away at Rosie’s mind. She kept feeling Maria’s presence around her, and thewoman’s cries were still drifting along in the air, calling out to her. Rosie finally had a breakdown. Shestumbled out of the chamber, crying and shouting. “Get away from me! Get away from me!”

Elias was listening closely so he could figure out where the voice was coming from. Once he was sureof the direction, he told Yacob. “Turn on the switch. I hear her.”

“Yes, sir!” Yacob heard the voice of a woman as well, and it didn’t belong to the one in the recording.Sounds like she’s saying. Get away from me?

Amanda followed along. She didn’t want to stay in the darkness alone. It was overwhelming and filledher head with a lot of horrific imagery.

A moment later, light returned to the household. Blinded for a moment, Amanda covered her eyes withher hands and took them off after a few moments. Still, the woman’s cries were still playing out, andRosie’s screams were getting nearer and nearer.

What do they call this? Ah, yes, entrapment. Man, Elias can be cruel when he wants to

Rosie’s screams came from somewhere nearby. Elias and Taylor looked in that direction at the sametime.

Taylor felt for his distraught sister. He darted forward and pulled her into his embrace. With a reassuringvoice, he said, “It’s alright. I’m here, Rosie. It’s alright.”

“Taylor, help me. There’s a ghost. A ghost!”

Elias stood beside them. Calmly, he said, “You’re not actually insane, Rosie.” Now he was sure Rosiewasn’t insane, or at the very least, not totally cuckoo, or she wouldn’t have come out so easily.

Rosie said nothing this time. She held her brother tightly, stealing glances through the corner of hereye.
