Chapter 538 Mutual Affection or Unrequited Love

Symeon narrowed his eyes as he observed Casey, the woman standing before him.

This woman isn’t seriously dumb enough to help me pursue Amanda, is she? Will she stoop so low todo something so morally wrong?

“What does it matter if mutual affection or unrequited love? What can you possibly do about it? Oh, bythe way, weren’t you supposed to help me win over Amanda? How’s your plan. going?”

“I haven’t…” Casey hesitated. “Elias saved me last time, and Amanda is his wife. I can’t repay kindnesswith enmity.”

“Oh… I see.” Symeon nodded. “So, tell me, what did Elias do to save you? Do you really think I wouldstrangle you in public? Do you really believe he saved you for your sake? You think too highly ofyourself.”

“What do you mean by that?”

Symeon’s derogatory comments about Elias made Casey feel uneasy. In her mind, Elias was indeed ahero who had willingly come to her aid.

“Remember, Elias didn’t save you for

spite me. He would have intervenedur sake. You’re not that charming. He did it just to

With that, Symeon walked away without looking back, heading downstairs. He checked his wristwatch;he had a client meeting in the afternoon.

He had been in Cludan for about half a month and found that the market here wasn’t as easy topenetrate as he had thought. To make a mark, he needed to put in some serious effort.

Meanwhile, Casey stood in place, looking surprised. What did Symeon just say? The time he spentwith Amanda? What does that mean? These two don’t actually have a romantic history, do they?

As the notion crossed her mind, her emotions swirled in a complex mix, leaving her unable to describeher feelings.

In the evening, at Winters Estate, after successfully putting Aiden to sleep. Amanda intended to returnto her room to sleep, assuming Elias would be in bed playing with his phone alone.

However, when she returned to the room, she didn’t replace the man anywhere. After searching around,she spotted his back on the terrace, seemingly on a phone call.

Initially, she didn’t want to eavesdrop, but she accidentally heard a word that made her in her tracks,deciding to listen to Elias’ conversation.

“Be cautious, all of you. Lawrence has been aggressively encroaching on our market in Cludan lately.They’ve already snatched one project from us.”

“I know, we’re keeping an eye on it, but there’s nothing we can do. Lawrence is offering double ourprice, and they’re bound to win.”

Elias picked up a cigarette, lit it, and smirked. “If this happens again next time, don’t bother asking mefor approval. Just spend the money and secure it. I won’t lose to that trash.”

“Yes, Mr. Winters, we understand. We’ll definitely win the bid this time.”

After hanging up the phone, Elias stubbed out his cigarette and planned to return to his room to sleep.

But as he turned, he saw Amanda standing there and immediately put on a gentle expression. “Whatare you doing here? Is Aiden asleep?”

“Well…” Amanda looked at the man walking toward her, opened her arms, and hugged him. “Honey, isthere a problem with the company?”

Elias didn’t want Amanda to worry about company matters. He brushed it off casually, saying, “Runninga business is never smooth sailing. They’re just minor issues; you don’t need to worry. Your only job isto enjoy each day with Aiden.”

She nestled her cheek against his chest, her eyes filled with sadness.

She had overheard everything earlier, and it was related to Symeon. Was Symeon deliberatelyopposing the Winters Family in business matters now? This man was becoming more and moreoutrageous, even bringing it into their business affairs.

“By the way, why didn’t you tell me that Aiden and Dulcie go to the same kindergarten?” Elias frowneddisapprovingly. He didn’t want to be further entangled with Symeon in any way.

“Well… to be honest, I recommended it for Dulcie,” Amanda gently explained. “I know you don’t wantany association with him, and I don’t either. But Dulcie is so lonely here, with no one she knows, andeven her dad is a recent acquaintance. She has no emotional connection. here. Luckily, she got toknow Aiden and can play with him.”

Amanda’s explanation softened Elias’ anger by half. He couldn’t stay mad at a little girl. It was just thathe and Symeon had a rivalry that knew no bounds.

Dulcie wasn’t feeling well, and she had little appetite, so Casey went to the supermarket to buy somefresh vegetables, planning to make a refreshing and delicious vegetable salad for the little one.

After returning to Galaxy Bay, the nanny opened the door and helped her carry the groceries into thekitchen.

“Ms. Penny, I’m going to make a vegetable salad for Dulcie and maybe some soup. She can have afew spoonfuls. It’s better than not eating at all.”

“Sure, Miss Carter, you’re really patient. You have more patience than Miss Bailey did before. I can seethat Dulcie clings to you more than to Miss Bailey,” the nanny replied with a smile.

Casey paused her vegetable washing and asked, “Did Amanda used to come here often to accompanyDulcie?”

“Not too often, Mr. Lawrence would usually call and plead with her to come. It seems Mr. Lawrence hasa different kind of trust in Miss Bailey, and I can tell that Mr. Lawrence treats. her differently.

Even Penny can tell…

Casey smiled and continued preparing the vegetables. Unexpectedly, the nanny whispered to her,“Miss Carter, Miss Bailey just arrived. She’s waiting for Mr. Lawrence in the study. I called Mr. Lawrenceto inform him, and he said he’d be back soon, tsk tsk…”

Amanda is here?

“Amanda is here?” She raised her head abruptly. “In the study? What is she doing here?”

Casey hadn’t expected Amanda to have the audacity to come here looking for Symeon. What did thismean? Did these two really have an affair?

Her heart started racing.

Penny shook her head. “I don’t know. She said she had something to discuss with Mr. Lawrence andwas waiting in the study.”

At that moment, they heard the low, steady footsteps of a man approaching from outside.

Penny hurriedly went to greet him, and Casey overheard her saying, “Mr. Lawrence, you’re back. MissBailey is waiting for you in the study, and Miss Carter is here too. She said she wanted to makesomething for Dulcie to eat.”

“Alright, I’ll head to the study first, and I’ll check on Dulcie in a while.”

“Ms. Penny, could you help me chop the vegetables? I’ll come over later to cook. I’ll check on Dulciefirst.”

With that, Casey also headed upstairs, but instead of going to see Dulcie, she made her way towardthe study.
