THE BILLIONAIRE IS INFATUATED WITH HIS EX-LOVER -
Chapter 12: Leon broke his promise
Carefully examining the documents handed to him by Mr. Scott, Mr. Roberts scrutinized each photo and read through every piece of information, furrowing his brows as he glanced back at Mr. Scott. "Who is this man?"
"He's Mss Roberts's boyfriend, sir," Mr. Scott replied, squinting his elderly eyes, following Mr. Roberts's gesture.
"Boyfriend? How do you know?" Mr. Roberts was skeptical because, as far as he knew, Sara was very selective about who she allowed into her life, and apart from Leon, whom he despised, there had been no one else. "They met once while Mss Roberts was abroad. Since returning home, they've been meeting regularly. He seems very caring towards her, and she treats him kindly in return."
"Look into his background. I detest people like Leon the most." Mr. Roberts placed the photo on the table, removed his glasses, and spoke to Mr. Scott.
"Rest assured, sir, I've already started an investigation. His background is impeccable, perfectly suited to Mss Roberts." Mr. Scott beamed with satisfaction as he delivered the news, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "Is that so? Tell me more."
"Henry Russell is the only son of the high-end supermarket chain Good Food owner, catering exclusively to the upper class. Moreover, their family has recently expanded into real estate investments. They have been wealthy for sixty years, spanning three generations. With few heirs aside from him, there is no one else to inherit this vast fortune. My information is from their internal sources; there's no information available from external sources."
"That's enough. This boy seems truly exceptional. I've always said, aside from Leon, that anyone Sara meets is bound to be good."
"You're right, sir. With the blessings of her father and with you treating everyone so well, Mss Roberts is destined for wealth and prosperity in her lifetime." Mr. Scott bowed deeply, flattering Mr. Roberts, who was thoroughly pleased. "That's one less worry off my mind," Mr. Roberts sighed with relief, his heart lightened with joy.
Mr. Roberts continued to examine the remaining photos, speeding up as he reached the end until his fingers suddenly paused upon something unusual.
"Mr. Scott, why is he here?"
Mr. Roberts's complexion turned pale, causing concern for Mr. Scott.
"Leon! Why is he..." Mr. Scott stared at the image of the man in a suit intruding into the frame where Sara and Russell were happily chatting in a restaurant, feeling at a loss for words to explain.
"I'm asking you!" Mr. Roberts snapped angrily, unable to believe Leon was still hovering around his daughter after so many years of separation, especially when Sara already had a boyfriend.
"Leon, that scoundrel has a wicked heart. What doesn't he need for money? Sara barely returned home, and he was already tailing her. Make sure Sara doesn't replace out about this. You should immediately investigate what Leon is up to and where he is and gather all relevant information about him. Go now!" Mr. Roberts shouted, frightening all his subordinates.
"Yes, sir," Mr. Scott replied meekly.
Mr. Roberts would never again accept Leon's presence in his and his daughter's lives. He silently regretted not being more resolute in dealing with Leon back then, which would have prevented this trouble.
"Leon, why do you haunt my life like a restless ghost? I will never stand by your side under the same sky this time." His eyes were ablaze with anger, and his fists were clenched. Mr. Roberts wished he could make Leon disappear forever.
In the evening, Mr. Roberts was having dinner when he received news from Mr. Scott. His face became challenging to look at, prompting him to call Sara home urgently for an important matter. Thirty minutes later, Sara arrived. Mr. Roberts and his daughter had dinner together and chatted.
"Sara, starting tomorrow, you no longer need to go to that company. From now on, stay home, relax, date, and live your days leisurely. I've thought it over, and you, a delicate girl, shouldn't bear the family's burden. When you get married, I'll pass this responsibility to your husband." Mr. Roberts looked at his daughter tenderly, surprising Sara.
"What are you talking about, Dad? I've promised you, and I must fulfill it."
"I'm saying we don't need it anymore."
"Why?"
"The exclusive distribution rights for the new LT company products have been given to someone else, so we no longer need to worry about it."
"No way! He can't take back his word." Sara couldn't believe what she had just heard because it meant that all her efforts so far had been in vain.
"Dad is lying; that's not the truth." Sara stood up and confronted her father.
"Who will you ask? Leon? Four years ago, when he took money from me, he could deceive you now. 'Loyalties change, but nature remains. Poor people like him are always only concerned about money. Even if he promises you something now, it's only for his benefit. In fact, from the beginning, you shouldn't have trusted him. I know you always resent me, but we are still family, whereas Leon is just an outsider."
Yes, her father was right. Everything in the world could change except for blood ties. His words made her realize why he neglected her mother-it was because she was just an outsider. Her father was selfish, only thinking of himself. "Look at this news spreading on the internet about LT company signing a contract with our competitor, so why bother going there anymore?" Sara looked at the video on her phone uploaded by a reputable news agency.
"This afternoon, the director of LT cosmetics company held a secret meeting with Rose company to sign a contract agreeing to grant exclusive distribution rights for the new product." The journalist's words were like a dagger, leaving Sara speechless and indignant.
The image of Leon in his elegant suit, confidently sealing the deal with his partner, and posing for the commemorative photo fueled Sara's anger. He seemed utterly remorseless. She had been deceived by someone who had always looked down on her. This resentment, Sara vowed, would be repaid.
"Sara, if not with this person, then we'll collaborate with someone else. Good Food company isn't bad either; I've decided to invest in their real estate projects. You're still young, so you should explore new fields to broaden your horizons. I'll fully support you in achieving dazzling success." Mr. Roberts embraced his daughter, comforting her.
Back in her room, Sara collapsed onto her bed, tears streaming down her face, now understanding the unpredictability of human nature. She looked up at the towering ceiling, feeling small and ignorant, grappling with the intricacies of the business world.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message, "Miss Sara, starting tomorrow, you don't need to come here anymore. There's no longer a job for you here. Thank you for your time with us. Best regards." Mark dared to send such a hollow and insincere message, turning her into a mere puppet before expressing his "thanks." Sara forced a bitter smile, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Sara experienced the three most painful moments in her life, two of which Leon gave her. This man seemed oblivious to any debts from past lives, inflicting deep wounds on her soul in this one.
