The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac) -
Chapter 1099
He couldn't pin all his hopes on Isaac.
Brittany was his only child, the apple of his eye, and he was determined to get her out of town before she started showing. She was never to set foot in Craneville again in her life! Once he had made up his mind, as soon as dawn broke, Yuri headed straight for the law office.
"Mr. Lynette, you seem quite eager to divide your estate. Is something the matter?"
The lawyer had known Yuri for over thirty years, and although he was aware that all of Yuri's assets were eventually going to Brittany, the urgency puzzled him.
"It's nothing. It was going to her eventually."
Yuri shook his head, "Just draft the contract. I need it now."
Not wanting to delay, the lawyer drafted the contract as quickly as possible and handed it to Yuri, "Mr. Lynette."
With the contract in hand, Yuri returned home, just as Brittany was coming downstairs.
"Dad."
Given their conversation the night before, Brittany was a bit sheepish, barely managing a whisper.
"Come with me."
Brittany followed, a bit wary, "Dad, are you still mad at me?"
Yuri sat down, sliding the documents across to Brittany, "Sign."
Looking at the folder, Brittany's breath hitched.
Was her dad so disappointed in her that he was sending her away?
She hesitated to take the documents, tears welling in her eyes.
Yuri's voice softened, "I've transferred all my assets to you. You and Isaac need to leave Craneville and never come back."
"Dad-"
Brittany hadn't expected this. Her dad wasn't sending her away in disgrace; he was setting her free!
"I've thought it over. I support whatever decision you make. Isaac doesn't stand a chance against the royal family right now." Yuri spoke gravely, "You need to leave before your pregnancy news breaks." "But if my elopement becomes public, the Lynette family is ruined!"
"That's for the Lynette family to worry about." Yuri pushed the documents closer, "I'll handle it. I'll announce that there was an accident, that you're gone."
"Will I ever see you again then?"
Brittany couldn't agree. She couldn't use the Lynette family as a stepping stone for her happiness, especially with Yuri still in the Imperial City.
If the truth came out, the royal family wouldn't spare the Lynette family!
"Bri." Yuri stood up, walked over, and gently took her hand, his expression resolute, "I haven't been the best father over the last thirty years. I owe you, and now, as long as you're happy, nothing else matters to me." Brittany refused, "Dad, I can't agree."
"We'll replace another way to leave Craneville safely."
Using a fake death would mean living in hiding, risking the Lynette family's safety. She wouldn't have it.
Yuri tried to speak.
Brittany grabbed the documents and tore them to shreds, "Dad, I'm not leaving Craneville, not like this."
"It's getting late. Time for breakfast."
As Brittany walked away, Yuri watched her go, his expression faltering. Brittany was stubborn; he couldn't rush her. He needed to persuade her gently.
Daniel woke to replace breakfast unusually tense.
"Grandpa, Mom, did you guys have a fight?"
Breakfast was usually a cheerful affair, but today they were silent, clearly something was up.
Brittany poured Daniel a glass of milk, "Kids should eat, not talk."
Yuri remained silent.
Daniel sensed trouble, sure they had argued.
Putting on an air of wisdom, he sighed, finished his breakfast, and before leaving, whispered to Yuri, "Grandpa, Mom can be unreasonable. Don't be mad. I'll stand up for you when I get back tonight!"
