Chapter 715

"What's the point of having you around if you can't even replace one person?" Stella Thorne barked at her bodyguards, her usually immaculate composure crumbling. "Three days. If you can't replace him in three days, don't bother coming back!" Stella was always one for appearances/ but her state at the moment made it clear just how upset she really was.

The bodyguards quickly filed out of the room with their heads bowed low in shame.

Dressed in a stunning white cocktail dress, Stella looked every bit the part of the high society belle. Yet her face was marred by frustration, making it obvious how much Thomas' disappearance had affected her. Brittany knocked on the door. "Ms. Stella?"

"Ah, it's you." Stella's anger seemed to ebb away slightly as she motioned for Brittany to come in. "Come in, we can talk here."

Brittany stepped into the dressing room and pulled out a gift she had prepared earlier. "Ms. Stella, congratulations on your engagement."

"Thank you," Stella replied, setting the gift aside without a second glance. "I'm sorry, I'm not in a good place right now. I don't feel like entertaining..."

Thomas had left, and nothing felt right anymore to her.

Brittany, understanding Stella's turmoil, sat down. "I heard about Thomas. He's determined to avoid you, and it's clear why you can't replace him."

"Don't you replace it amusing?" Stella asked. Her usually bright eyes were then filled with sorrow.

"I suggested breaking off the engagement to my family," Stella confessed.

Then her parents' most important project had been taken away from them and was given to another family member. The contract she was supposed to sign had been intercepted.

Her grandfather hadn't even asked her why she wanted to break off the engagement. Instead, he had shown her through his actions that her family had no shortage of suitable suitors.

If she refused to marry Joseph, not only would she have suffered, but her parents would have too. The family might have even completely rejected them.

She and Joseph had grown up together and were the ideal match. They had agreed not to interfere with each other's personal lives and had no intention of being physically intimate, either before or after marriage. Even their plan for children involved artificial means. She had done everything she could, but Thomas still wouldn't accept it.

Brittany could tell that Stella genuinely loved Thomas. Otherwise, she wouldn't have defied her family's orders for him.

Sadly, Thomas wanted a marriage that was open and could be celebrated by everyone.

"Ms. Stella, you've done your best," Brittany assured her, respecting Stella's choice even though she didn't agree with it.

Stella sighed, rubbing her forehead. "The engagement party is about to start. I need to get ready."

The engagement party was a significant event for the entire Thorne family, and Stella couldn't afford to let anything go wrong.

Brittany left the room and joined the party. The event was a marriage alliance between the Thorne and Palmer families. Hence, most of the guests were high-profile individuals. As Brittany stood on the second floor, she spotted William among the crowd.

The Dillion family had recently secured a few major deals, dispelling any previous gloom. William, in particular, was doing well. His demeanor was gentle as ever but with a touch of melancholy.

Seeing him doing well, Brittany breathed a sigh of relief.

As she descended the staircase, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure darting around the corner.

It was Thomas!

Brittany looked towards the dressing room, hesitated for a moment, and then decided not to follow him.
