Chapter 786

Brittany stepped out of her car and entered a suburban neighborhood, her eyes greeted by an abundance of trees and

meticulously maintained flowerbeds lining the streets.

At the heart of the neighborhood was a man-made lake, filled to the brim with lilies. Even without looking, Brittany could imagine.. the breathtaking sight of the lilies in full bloom. Following the address she had, Brittany found the home of the researcher she was looking for.

Upon climbing the stairs, she took in the tidy surroundings. Potted plants decorated the entrance, indicating the researcher's appreciation for a touch of nature.

Knock, knock, knock.

Brittany took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Soon, the door swung open.

An elderly man stepped out and upon seeing Brittany asked, "Hello, who might you be looking for?"

"Scott," Brittany greeted, "I'm Brittany. I wanted to discuss something with you something about the HSE12 virus."

Slam!

The man promptly shut the door before Brittany could finish her sentence.

"I have no idea what virus you're talking about. Please leave."

The man seemed noticeably irritated.

Undeterred, Brittany continued knocking, "Scott, are you sure you don't want to discuss this with me?"

There was no response.

Brittany pursed her lips, "I was once infected. I want to ask you about the HSE12 virus."

Whoosh!

The door flew open, the man's eyes wide with disbelief, "You've been infected with the HSE12 virus?"

Brittany simply nodded, "Yes, it was diagnosed five years ago."

"That's impossible."

The man shook his head in denial, "No, that's not possible."

"Scott, what do you mean by that?" Brittany, noticing something amiss in his reaction, pressed further, "What's not possible?"

"If you were infected with the HSE12 virus, you wouldn't be alive. Come in and let's talk."

Scott stepped aside to let Brittany pass.

Brittany entered.

The three-bedroom apartment was compact yet cozy.

She was immediately greeted by a wall filled with books, all related to virology. A purple couch sat in front of a coffee table covered in papers scribbled with notes.

Scott closed the door and motioned for Brittany to follow him. He poured her a cup of water, "So, you were really infected?"

"Yes, as far as I know." Brittany accepted the cup, "Scott, I want to know, aside from those in the Military Department, who else could have had access to this virus?" "Craneville." Scott sighed, "Our research facility was located in Craneville back in the day."

"I heard that you left the facility before the successful development of the HSE12 virus. Can you tell me why?"

Scott was once the country's most outstanding medical genius, a significant figure in the field of virology.

But he suddenly vanished, disappearing for many years. If not for Joseph, Brittany wouldn't have been able to replace Scott.

"Because I witnessed the birth of this virus." His eyes were laced with fear, a fear born from the unknown, "I don't know how you got infected or how you managed to survive until now. But my advice? Stop looking into it." "But I want to replace out why I was infected." Brittany stared at Scott, "Can you tell me everything you know about the HSE12 virus?"

Scott shook his head, "I left a long time ago. I've forgotten everything."

"Scott, do you know anyone who might be able to replace a cure?"

Again, Scott shook his head, "You're the first person I've met who's survived after being infected."

The implication was clear he didn't know.

Brittany couldn't get any useful information from Scott. Before she left, she handed him her business card, "Scott, this is my contact information. If you need anything, feel free to reach out to me."
