The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac) -
Chapter 949
Leila doted on Saskia as if she were her own flesh and blood, and even though she was adopted, her birthday bash was nothing short of spectacular. The guest list was a who's who of Craneville's elite.
The people who once were thick as thieves with Jonathan now kept their distance. For the first time, Jonathan felt out of place, unworthy.
When Saskia caught sight of him, a flicker of distaste crossed her face, but she quickly masked it and approached with a brisk pace.
"Hey, Jonathan," she greeted.
Jonathan managed a smile, pulling out his gift with some hesitation. "Sorry, Saskia, times are tough. This is all I could afford."
Saskia expected something modest. Yet she didn't anticipate the necklace, a simple piece that cost him a few thousand. Her smile was warm, but her mind was elsewhere, already planning to have a serious chat with Jonathan soon. "Jonathan, it's not the price tag, it's the thought that counts," she assured him with her usual understanding.
Jonathan's guilt deepened. He couldn't stay long; work was waiting.
"Happy birthday, Saskia. I gotta run."
He left with long strides, while Saskia slipped the necklace into her pocket, a gesture that, to others, signified cherishing Jonathan's gift, no matter the cost.
Many sighed, musing that this must be true love.
Saskia was the dream girl for many, and with Jonathan's fall from grace, quite a few were eager to step in. Saskia kept a cool facade, though her sights were set on someone new. Yet, she felt a sting of indignity.
Why couldn't she earn the approval of the Metzger family, when Brittany could so easily marry Isaac and inherit all the Lynette legacy?
Just then, Ivy arrived.
Saskia stepped forward with a smile, "Hey, Princess."
Ivy hugged Saskia, offering her present. "Happy Birthday."
"Thanks," Saskia replied.
Their close bond meant the hopeful suitors didn't dare offend Ivy and reluctantly backed off.
Saskia deliberately paraded Ivy in front of Brittany, intent on showing her how her dear husband was playing the field. "I need to change my outfit. Would you mind coming with me?"
She knew Brittany and Isaac were playing GO in the living room.
"Sure," Ivy agreed, unsuspecting.
They crossed the vast garden, Saskia's blood boiling with anticipation. She could almost see the look on Brittany's face when she'd catch Ivy and Isaac in a compromising position - the betrayal, the rage, the humiliation. The thought alone was exhilarating, cleansing her of past negativity. So lost in her plotting, she didn't notice Ivy lagging behind.
Bursting into the living room, Saskia raised her voice dramatically. "Bri, are you and Mr. Salter still..."
"Mr. Salter?" Ivy asked, confused.
The room was empty.
The smug satisfaction vanished from Saskia's eyes. Where were they? She was so ready for the drama. Hearing the commotion, the butler appeared. "Miss?"
"Where are Bri and Mr. Salter?" Saskia asked, unwilling to let it go.
"The young master was tired, so they left early."
"Brittany's husband's last name is Salter, too?"
Saskia met Ivy's curious gaze, intentionally enunciating each word. "Yes, that's right. His name is Isaa..."
