The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac) -
Chapter 960
Landon leaned in, capturing Charles' lips, and Charles was a mix of frustration and urgency. But Landon was relentless, stirring up a storm within Charles until Charles bit down on his tongue in retaliation. Landon winced in pain.
Charles shoved Landon away, tossing a credit card at him. "If you breathe a word about today, Landon, you're dead meat!"
Having been outed, Charles didn't dare linger, heading straight back to Craneville that very night.
...
By the time Isaac got back to Bay Community, it was well past midnight.
The new branch office had just been completed, and his to-do list was endless. He'd been running around all day, schmoozing at evening functions, and reluctantly downing a few drinks.
He stepped out of his car, telling Nathan to head home early. "Take the day off tomorrow."
"Will do."
Isaac slipped through the door quietly, changing shoes and shedding his suit jacket before hurrying upstairs.
Brittany was already asleep, but the master bedroom was bathed in the soft glow of a nightlight, casting a gauzy veil over the space.
Isaac, slightly inebriated, moved to the bedside and crouched down, pulling Brittany into his embrace.
Brittany woke to the smell of alcohol. "You're back."
"Yeah, sorry if I woke you."
Their foreheads touched, and Isaac's lips found hers, lingering there.
After a moment, he pulled back, breathless. "What'd you have for dinner?"
"I took Daniel out, and ran into Dominic."
"Right."
Now somewhat clearer-headed, Isaac stripped off his shirt and staggered into the bathroom.
Woken by the commotion, Brittany went downstairs to brew a hangover cure, bringing it up just as Isaac emerged from the shower.
"Drink this; it'll help."
Isaac downed the remedy in one go.
"I'm off tomorrow; we can spend the day together."
"Perfect timing. Saskia's getting engaged soon; I need to pick out a present."
It was necessary for her to make some superficial effort.
Isaac, not wanting to fuss over it, suggested, "I'll have Nathan handle it. Stay with me."
Brittany had been busy too, and their time together had dwindled.
"Okay."
They went to bed, Isaac still slightly spinning from the drinks, holding Brittany close as he drifted off.
Brittany lay in his arms, her mind racing with thoughts of the Ulbricht family affairs.
Half-asleep, Isaac felt her restlessness and pulled her closer, peppering her with kisses. "Can't sleep?" "A little."
"Is the job giving you trouble?"
"Not really."
"Then what is it?"
She couldn't come clean about investigating the Ulbrichts, especially with Dominic being Isaac's old pal.
"I just don't want to get involved with Saskia's wedding stuff."
Isaac held her hand gently. "You're part of the Lynette family; you have to go."
Yuri had been parading Brittany at all the fancy dinners, keen on showing Craneville just how much he cared for her.
Brittany knew Yuri's intentions, but she didn't gel with Saskia; she'd just be a prop if she went.
"Don't worry, I'll go with you." Fighting sleep, Isaac tried to comfort her.
Knowing he was tired, she didn't press further, snuggling into him and falling asleep to the rhythm of his heartbeat.
...
The dinner was set for the weekend, and Brittany and Isaac timed their arrival perfectly, arriving half an hour before it began.
Everyone else from the Lynette family was already there. As the couple entered the private dining room, they saw the Lynettes and members of the other family.
Saskia's boyfriend's last name was Brandt, not top-tier Craneville royalty, but his family had thrived in recent years. And Saskia had her sights set on the heir of the Brandt family, a well-chosen match.
