The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac) -
Chapter 982
"Gabriel, you're here." Saskia rose to her feet.
Gabriel's face was a thundercloud, dodging Saskia's outstretched hand. "What, it's fine for you to show up at your ex's wedding, but not for me?"
Under the scrutiny of the crowd, Saskia's face flushed with embarrassment. "Gabriel, it's not what you think. Jonathan... Mr. Metzger, we've always just been friends. I'm here to celebrate his wedding. Jonathan and I have always been above board, nothing romantic." Gabriel thought back to everything that happened on their wedding night, and his features softened considerably.
The woman Jonathan had moved heaven and earth to win, and Gabriel had won her over with ease. In some ways, he had beaten Jonathan.
Beside them, Ysabel was in awe.
No wonder Saskia had Jonathan wrapped around her finger. She'd managed to sweet-talk Gabriel with just a few words. Her charm was undeniable.
Saskia snuggled up to Gabriel's side. Though not born a Lynette, Saskia had been raised with care over the years. Now, with her brother Holden sitting pretty in a top executive position and a promising future for herself, she was afforded due respect by the guests. "Saskia and Jonathan's breakup was the talk of the town. I didn't think she'd show at the wedding."
"Tell me about it. Jonathan cut ties with the Metzgers for her sake, and now he's marrying Ophelia while Saskia's found her own place."
"I heard Saskia's expecting."
The vows concluded, and Jonathan led Ophelia around, toasting each table.
Ophelia, a veteran of many business deals, could hold her liquor well, but Jonathan was a three-drink lightweight.
Ophelia had her bridesmaid swap out the spirits in his glass. "Prepare some hangover soup for Jonathan, just in case." "Got it."
They were a match made in heaven.
The celebrated couple wove through the throng, stirring up waves of excitement.
Jonathan's handsome face was all smiles, his attention glued to Ophelia, as if to shield her from the slightest discomfort.
This scene only served to irritate Saskia further.
Finally, it was Brittany and Ysabel's table's turn. Ophelia and Jonathan approached, wine glasses in hand. "Thank you all for coming. I hope you'll forgive any shortcomings in our hospitality." "Ophelia, congratulations on your wedding."
Ysabel and Brittany chimed in unison, followed by the other guests.
Saskia lifted her glass, which was filled with orange juice, and stood up. Despite her pregnancy, she looked just as she always had.
Jonathan couldn't shake a sense of suffocation whenever he saw Saskia, feeling an inexplicable aversion toward her.
Ophelia, on the other hand, remained composed. "Mrs. Brandt."
It was a veiled reminder for Saskia to stay out of trouble.
Saskia understood Ophelia's intent but was determined to ruffle her feathers.
"Mr. Metzger, about the past, I owe you an apology," Saskia softened her voice, resorting to her old charms, her eyes brimming with sorrow.
The old Jonathan would have melted by now. But now, he was only annoyed.
Her tears seemed not like drops of sadness but like a venomous presence to be avoided at all costs.
"I wasn't good enough for you. I let you down. I'm sorry. You and Ophelia are well-suited. I wish you both a happy marriage and a swift addition to your family." Ophelia's eyes narrowed, a flash of coldness within them.
Jonathan frowned. "Mrs. Brandt, since you're married and I am too, why bring up the past?"
Saskia stiffened, not expecting this cold treatment.
He had once loved her so deeply, even hesitant to speak harshly. How could his attitude just suddenly change?
"If you feel so sorry, then let's make this a real apology and part ways for good."
Jonathan, holding Ophelia's hand, declared, "Ophelia and I are perfectly matched, and children will come in due time."
With that, he noticed Ophelia's heel was rubbed raw and set down his wine glass to scoop her up in his arms.
"Jonathan..." Ophelia was flustered; there were still guests to attend to!
"Your heel is hurt; let's go upstairs so you can change shoes."
