"Thanks for caring, but the cops don't have anything on me. Let's not bring this up again, okay?"
If the wrong ears caught wind of this, it could be twisted into her downfall!
Saskia, catching on to what Brittany was fearing, gave a sheepish grin. "Bri, we're family. I wouldn't hurt you."
Brittany chuckled lightly. Yeah, right!
When Holden returned from his business trip and saw Saskia there, he was taken aback: "Why are you here alone?"
"The kid's got a cold. Staying home."
Holden, a tad worried about the news, got reassured by Saskia: "Relax, the grandparents are there, and so is the doctor. The little one is fine."
A little sniffle is no big deal. Holden thought it over and agreed.
During dinner, Yuri brought up the ongoing investigation: "The police are still on it, and so am I. Bri would never do such a thing..."
He paused, his gaze lingering meaningfully on Saskia: "If I replace out who's trying to smear Bri's name, they won't get off easy!"
Saskia, mid-way through getting a rib, froze, her smile stiffening.
Holden, oblivious, pledged his loyalty: "Dad, we need to get to the bottom of this. We all know Bri is above reproach. She wouldn't jeopardize her future over something so foolish." Brittany is someone who values her reputation highly. She wouldn't make such a mistake, not if she had any sense.
Saskia struggled to maintain her composure, managing a weak smile and a nod in agreement with Holden after sipping her soup.
After a hearty meal, Brittany decided to take Daniel for a walk to clear her head.
Saskia excused herself to leave.
Holden walked her out of the Lynette Mansion: "Saskia, does this have anything to do with you?"
"Brother, are you suspecting me?"
Saskia looked hurt: "Do you really think I could do that?"
Holden didn't want to suspect Saskia, but she and Brittany never got along.
"Saskia, I hope you had nothing to do with this."
"Firstly, you're my only sister, my only family. I care about you a lot."
"Secondly, the Lynette family has been good to us. Brittany is their only daughter. Please, don't do anything that could hurt our family's bond, okay?"
Saskia was tired of hearing this. If the Lynette family truly saw them as their own, why did Yuri leave everything to Brittany?
Why did Holden, after years at the Lynette Conglomerate, only recently make it to an executive position, while Brittany could parachute into any department she wished?
Why could Brittany always get Yuri to yield, while she was relegated to a peripheral department, effectively isolated?
"Brother, I get it." Saskia replied impatiently: "I'm your only sister. I wouldn't hurt you."
After Saskia left, Holden retreated to his bedroom, diving into bed.
That evening, Brittany received a call from the police, stating they had new evidence proving her innocence.
...
Upon arriving in Craneville, Isaac dived into the investigation.
As expected.
Brittany, with her bold reforms at the Lynette Conglomerate, had ruffled some feathers, some of whom were close to Saskia.
It appeared Saskia had orchestrated the whole affair. With a suspect in mind, Isaac's job got easier.
In just two days, he found video evidence of Saskia interacting with implicated officials. Saskia had even been in contact with employees drafting contracts. The evidence was irrefutable.
Isaac compiled all the evidence, making two copies. He handed one to the police and sent the other to Yuri.
Upon viewing the email, Yuri was furious. He immediately phoned Saskia: "Get back here now!"
