"Can't believe they are so alike."
It's no wonder Eltham was drawn to Brittany, even though she was already taken.
"Have you found Hestia yet?"
"Still on it. Heard she was last seen in the Capital City." Nathan was on a mission, searching for Hestia as swiftly as he could.
"Is Eltham using his wife as a stand-in now?"
"I doubt it."
Isaac shook his head: "If you truly care for someone, how could you ever see them as just a stand-in?"
"Hestia. Brittany."
These women couldn't be more different from Eltham.
Back in his school days, Eltham was the epitome of restraint and decorum, while Hestia was wild and unpredictable, having scraped her way up from the dregs of society. Their paths crossed unexpectedly. Her influence introduced Eltham to the thrill of rebellion.
And now, Brittany offered Eltham a taste of a different life altogether.
He might not love Brittany, but he was enamored with the life she represented.
Nathan found Eltham increasingly enigmatic: "Mr. Salter, did Eltham's visit to Ms. Lynette last night mean he's onto something?"
If there wasn't a suspicion, why else would he catch them off guard?
"We don't know yet."
Isaac massaged his temples: "Keep digging."
...
After returning from the Lynette estate, Piper unleashed her frustrations in her study, unable to contain her anger until she finally calmed down, her grip on the desk whitening her knuckles. Mrs. Walker heard the commotion and rushed upstairs, alarmed: "Piper, what on earth happened?"
She had always taught Piper to maintain her composure.
If word of tonight's incident got out, how would Piper ever replace a suitor?
Piper was filled with resentment: "Mom, Eltham said he loves Brittany!"
She couldn't fathom why she wasn't enough for Eltham, why she couldn't capture his attention.
After all, he had once dated Hestia, a woman from the wrong side of the tracks, and now he was enamored with someone else's leftovers. How was she any less than them?
Mrs. Walker sighed at her daughter's words, then suddenly slapped Piper across the face: "Piper, calm yourself!"
Stunned, Piper took a moment to recover, "Mom, I can't stand it, help me, I want to marry Eltham-"
Seeing her daughter's tears, Mrs. Walker knelt down: "Piper, it's not that I refuse to help you, but Eltham is already engaged."
"It's not official yet, there's still a chance for me." Piper clutched at her mother's hands: "Mom, please help me!"
Mrs. Walker sighed deeply and after a while said: "If you truly want to win Eltham's heart, you can't keep targeting Brittany. Instead, you should bring them together." "Brittany might be wonderful, but she has a child."
"The royal family will never accept her child. Just by exploiting this fact, you can create a rift between them." Mrs. Walker cradled Piper's face: "I've taught you, a woman's tears are only effective in front of the man she loves." "Right now, Eltham doesn't love you, but you've grown up together, there's affection. If you can make him see you're more valuable than Brittany, he might change his mind."
Mrs. Walker was a master of human nature. Eltham might appear composed, but at his core, he cherished freedom, and Brittany was exactly the type of woman he admired, bound to draw him in.
Piper might be exceptional, but she was also a product of the Walker family's influence.
Piper, pale and somewhat puzzled, listened.
Mrs. Walker stroked her face: "I don't want to see what happened today ever again, okay?"
