Brittany couldn't help but chuckle, "That's not what I meant."

Isaac, slightly irritated, retorted, "Don't go feeling sorry for anyone else."

It had been a while since they last saw each other, and Brittany had a lot to say to him. Yet, when the words reached her lips, she felt they were unnecessary.

An eerie silence fell upon the room, their breaths intertwining. Brittany lay in his arms, and through the thin layer of fabric, she could clearly hear his heartbeat. Isaac gently squeezed her waist, "Time to sleep."

Brittany, who usually found it hard to sleep in unfamiliar beds, felt much more at ease with him around and unknowingly drifted off to sleep in his embrace. Isaac was in a rush this time, his time was limited.

He couldn't stay for long.

Once she fell asleep, he carefully moved away from her, pulled the blanket over, and tucked her in properly.

She seemed a bit fuller lately, probably due to the pregnancy, making her look even more delicate. He reached out, caressing her face for a long while before finally leaving. The deep, dark night swallowed all traces.

When Brittany woke up again, the space beside her was empty.

Heading downstairs, she bumped into Twila.

Twila was on the lean side, her hair slightly yellowed, probably from malnutrition.

Twila stared at Brittany, "Are you going to marry my dad?"

Her grandmother had said it was this wicked woman who wanted to marry her dad, which was why her mom couldn't be with him!

Brittany detected the hostility in her voice but didn't take it to heart, "Given the current situation, yes."

Twila pouted, "I don't like you."

All she wanted was for her mom and dad to be together!

Brittany could somewhat understand Twila's feelings, "Well, you can try."

If Eltham and Hestia could rekindle their old flame, she would be happy to see it happen.

But to Twila, it sounded like outright bragging!

She glared at Brittany and stomped downstairs.

Brittany, pregnant and moving

slowly, made her way to the dining room. There, Twila sat at the table, surprisingly calm and docile, a stark contrast from her earlier demeanor.

Brittany greeted the queen, and Eltham came over with her favorite breakfast, chicken and dumplings, "Breakfast is ready."

The queen was clearly surprised to see Eltham cooking personally and looked at Brittany with a hint of impatience. "Alright."

Brittany pretended not to notice and took a seat.

"Dad, Twila wants some chicken and dumplings too!" Twila eyed the dish in front of Brittany, her craving evident.

Eltham had only made one serving of chicken and dumplings, "Alright, I'll ask the kitchen to make some for you." "No, I want the ones made by dad."

Twila was determined to have Brittany's serving.

Brittany leisurely picked up a spoon, took a sip of the soup-homemade chicken broth as the base, delicious and aromatic. Eltham stood up, "I'll make some for you."

Twila was stubborn, "Can't Brittany just give hers to me?"

She was a child, why couldn't the bad woman just give her the chicken and dumplings?

Eltham frowned, "Twila."

"Brittany really enjoys chicken and

dumplings in the morning. The

kitchen has more chicken broth and dumplings; I'll make you a bowl, okay?"

Eltham felt Twila was being unreasonable, but he tried to keep his voice as calm as possible.

Seeing her father not taking her side, Twila's eyes welled up with tears.

"Fine."

"It's just a bowl of chicken and dumplings. Bri, share half with Twila."

The queen couldn't stand seeing Twila

being somewhat selfish, fighting over food with a child!

Brittany paused in her eating, "Get another bowl."
