"Nah, I'm going to check in on Hammer Field, then head home."

Isaac glanced at his phone; it was already nine at night, and he had yet to hear from Brittany.

Usually, by this time, she would have texted him, asking if he was coming home.

He felt a bit out of sorts since she had not messaged him tonight.

Wesley shook his head, already used to Isaac's cold demeanor.

As long as it had nothing to do with him, Isaac would not bother.

"Alright, let's go."

The starlet wisely stayed put while the two men went up to the third-floor study, oblivious to the drama unfolding in the yard.

Upon reaching the third floor, Isaac greeted Hammer.

Despite years apart, Hammer was as lively as ever: "Zac, long time no see."

Isaac exchanged pleasantries with Hammer, then made an excuse to leave early.

Hammer sighed. "He's always holding a grudge."

"Don't worry too much, sir. Ms. Loraine is a catch; she'll definitely change his mind."

The butler was confident about this.

However, Hammer shook his head and said, "It's unlikely. Zac, despite his cold exterior, is incredibly stubborn. The incident three years ago may have ruined their last chance." Three years ago, Isaac was kicked out by the Salter family, and his life became a mess.

How dare they casually pick sides?

No one expected that in just three years, Isaac would make a comeback. He was unstoppable and clearly the victor of this power struggle.

Exiting the study, Loraine was waiting outside, her demeanor still elegant and gentle.

"Zac, can we talk?"

Isaac was tall and imposing, exuding a cold aura.

Wesley, wanting to check out the scene in the yard, quickly caught on: "You two chat, I'll head out."

After he left, Loraine looked at Isaac with eyes full of love and said, "Zac, have you been well these years?"

"Thanks for your concern, Ms. Field. All is well."

The mention of "Ms. Field" made Loraine's eyes instantly well up. "Zac, are you still mad at me? I can explain what happened three years ago."

She knew he was still angry. Three years ago, she cut ties with him without hesitation. She was helpless too; she could explain!

"Ms. Field." Isaac interrupted her, saying, "We're just acquaintances. I'm not mad at you."

Isaac never thought of Loraine in a romantic way.

He knew she had feelings for him so he had rejected her in private, only because he wanted to save her face; he didn't reject her publicly.

But he knew better than anyone that Loraine wasn't his type.

Loraine, thinking Isaac was still angry, tried to explain: "Zac, you misunderstood. I had no choice back then."

"It's late. I need to go home."

Isaac clearly didn't want to continue the conversation. There was nothing left to discuss.

"Zac, I heard you got married; is it true?" Loraine suddenly changed the topic, her tone accusatory.

Isaac's eyes turned icy. "You've been investigating me?"

Loraine felt a chill down her spine. "I haven't."

Why would she investigate Isaac? If it weren't for Sydney telling her, she would still be clueless about this!

"My affairs are none of your business." Isaac replied coldly, "Goodbye, Ms. Field."

He walked away, as cold as ever.

Loraine clutched her skirt, her eyes filled with determination.

Where did she fall short compared to Brittany? Why would he choose Brittany over her? Was he deceived, like Sydney said?

She quickly followed, determined to expose Brittany's true colors.

"Zac, there seems to be a fight in the yard. The person who plagiarized me in the past is here. Can you come with me?"

Her eyes were red and hopeful. "You know the issue was a big deal, and that person never apologized. I've been waiting for an apology." Isaac frowned. Considering their shared childhood, he reluctantly agreed.

He pulled out his phone and texted Brittany: [I'm tied up tonight; I might be home late.]

Loraine saw him texting and felt a pang of jealousy. "Are you reporting to your wife?"

To Isaac, it wasn't reporting; he just didn't want Brittany to waste her time preparing dinner for him; it would avoid wasting food.

"Let's go."

A smirk flashed in Loraine's eyes; the drama was about to unfold!

"Bang--"

A champagne bottle was smashed. Brittany instinctively closed her eyes, but there was no pain. Someone had shielded her!

The sound of a man gasping in pain rang through the silence.

Then Sydney lost it: "William, why did you protect Brittany?"

Brittany opened her eyes and saw William's eyes. She never thought he would show up here, let alone take a bottle for her.

The back of William's head was bleeding profusely. He was beginning to feel weak.

Brittany instinctively held him, tears streaming down her face. "William, are you alright?"

She was trembling all over. William's head was bleeding, but he managed to comfort her through the pain, saying, "I'm fine."

Sydney completely lost control; she slapped the man who threw the bottle and said, "You bastard, how dare you smash people with a bottle!"

He was stunned; after all, this was all part of Sydney's plan. Her original intention was to ruin Brittany's face with the bottle. But who would have thought that William would come to Brittany's rescue? "Sydney, you're the one who arranged this, aren't you?" William's voice was weak but firm.

Sydney was stunned; she didn't expect William to expose her on the spot!

The scene was in chaos, but this was only the beginning of tonight's drama.

Hannah was the first to snap back to reality. "Bri, William's pretty banged up; we've got to rush him to the hospital!"

Brittany and Hannah helped William into the car. Brittany's hands were still shaking as Hannah sped off towards the hospital.

Brittany's phone buzzed a few times. She fumbled to pull it out of her bag, replaceing a text from Isaac.

William, having lost too much blood, slipped into unconsciousness. Brittany dialed Isaac with trembling fingers.

The Field family

When Wesley arrived at the scene, all he found was chaos.

Brittany was gone.

Only Sydney was left, standing there like a deer in headlights. Everyone else was exchanging confused looks.

"Wesley, what the hell happened?"

Loraine walked up to him, with Isaac trailing behind.

Wesley shook his head. "I heard there was a fight; I don't know the details."

Wesley thought to himself, What a shame he missed the show. He had half expected to play the knight in shining armor.

Isaac wasn't planning on keeping in touch with Loraine anyway. So, hearing this, he found an excuse to leave. "Well, since everything's sorted, I'll take off." Loraine hadn't anticipated that things would get this bad. She was hoping for a bit more drama!

Isaac's phone rang. It was Brittany.

"What's up?"

"Zakky, a friend of mine got hurt. Hannah and I took him to the hospital. You should get some rest tonight. I might not be coming home."

Brittany's voice choked a little, sounding a bit frantic.

"Is he badly hurt?"

Isaac frowned, confused. Why would he suddenly get hurt? And what about her? Was she hurt? Was it bad?

He felt a pang of worry, but then realized something odd: why was he worried about Brittany?

"I'm fine."

Guessing he was on the phone with Brittany, Loraine bit her lip in frustration and asked, "Zac, who are you on the phone with?"

Brittany's voice abruptly stopped. Her eyes widened! That voice sounded so familiar! Could it be?
