Chapter 668
"The Bennetts have been doing well over the years, and Shona is the apparent heir to their empire. Marrying Shona is pretty much like taking over the Bennetts, isn't it?"
"I knew it! Ryan has been loaded with resources over the years, even successfully transitioning into a legit actor. It turns out that he's been trading in his own flesh to get all of that!"
"The stars we like are way better than Ryan, always relying on their own efforts. Even if they don't win awards, at least they don't sell out their marriages."
A flurry of comments flooded in."
Shona, pregnant and pissed, turned pale at the sight of those comments.
"What do they mean by 'trading in flesh'? That's disgusting!" Shona, with her hand on her belly, was fuming..
Isaac, flipping through his documents, noticed her rage and gently reminded her, "Pregnant women shouldn't get too worked up."
Shona rolled her eyes, "It's me they're dissing, not you!"
If it were Brittany being mocked, he'd probably be pissed off by then!
Isaac changed the subject and said, "You should vent to Ryan, not me."
Shona shot back lightly, "Don't worry, my husband and I are very close, he'll protect me."
Of course, she could whine a bit to her husband in the evening, maybe scoring some sympathy and even some action.
"What did you want to see me about?"
Shona was a bit in awe of Isaac, but there was genuine affection too. After so many years of collaboration, they were practically old friends.
"I heard you're living with Brittany now; how's it going?" Shona was all ears.
Isaac paused his work, "If there's nothing else, you can go."
"Hey." Shona frowned, "Maybe I can help?"
He was a man of few words. If he'd opened his mouth more often five years prior, they wouldn't have broken up, let alone ended up where they were then!
"No need." Isaac shook his head. If Shona got involved, it would only make things worse.
Brittany's attitude had improved a lot in those days, but the incident that night had put their relationship back into a tailspin.
After discussing the matter, Shona was ready to leave when Ryan went to pick her up.
Isaac had met Ryan before. He was handsome, had a massive fan base in the entertainment industry, and was humble yet assertive. No wonder Shona fell for him. As Shona approached him, Ryan took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, naturally taking her hand, and nodded at Isaac, "Mr. Salter, we'll take off now."
"Sure."
The couple left Grandeur Capital. Shona leaned on Ryan, exaggerating her complaints until she almost cried, which made Ryan feel terrible.
"I'll clear up those rumors. I was the one who fell for you first."
Shona snorted, "But they said you traded in your flesh; they even talked about it so disgustingly."
"It's okay. As long as we're together, they can say what they want."
Constantly being talked about was part and parcel of life in the entertainment industry, and he was used to it.
But Shona couldn't bear to see him being criticized. When they got home, she contacted the PR department and sued those random commenters.
She rarely tweeted, but that time, she couldn't hold back.
She posted a tweet. It wasn't very long but it included a photo.
As soon as the tweet was posted, it immediately sparked a lot of attention and discussion.
The content was simple, denying rumors of "selling out", "trading in flesh", and "marrying up".
At the same time, she revealed that she and Ryan had been together for many years. The engagement with Isaac five years before was purely for business reasons, and they had amicably split up. The photo attached was from Ryan's proposal to Shona three years prior.
An endless ocean, a giant dining table in the background, a breeze blowing, the white tablecloth fluttering.
Moonlight shone through the trees onto them. Ryan was on one knee. Shona extended her hand and accepted his proposal.
Their hands clasped tightly, and the ring on their ring finger sparkled,
Ryan immediately tweeted that tweet, adding the text, "Happy honeymoon, my wife!"
