Chapter 679
Brittany stiffened for a moment, then quickly sidestepped Isaac and strode back to her room.
At the Dillion family's new house.
Carla emerged from the bathroom only to be startled by the sight of William standing in their bedroom. Her surprise quickly turned into delight as she expressed her happiness, "William, you're home." In all their time being married, William seldom came home.
She'd always wanted to spend more time with him, to cultivate their relationship, but she never got the chance.
William sidestepped her approach; he'd just returned from a social event and the smell of liquor clung to him. His brows furrowed, "I heard you met with Brittany this afternoon?"
Carla froze, "Did my sister-in-law tattle on me?"
Hadn't Brittany promised to sever all ties with William?
Why would she say one thing and do the opposite?
"Why did you say those things?" William's brow knitted tighter.
Carla had crossed a line.
They were married, but Carla knew better than anyone how that marriage came about.
"William, I'm your wife. I don't appreciate your ex-girlfriend, nor do I appreciate you maintaining contact with her. Is there a problem with that?"
Carla saw no real issue with her actions, "All these years, you've held her in high regard. But does she truly care for you? She doesn't even..."
William's expression darkened in an instant, cutting her off.
He loosened his tie, unbuttoned his shirt, his tone laced with impatience, "Carla, our marriage was never fair to begin with. I won't develop feelings for you, nor can! offer you anything beyond the title of my wife. During our marriage, I won't disrespect it, but I also expect you to behave and stop meddling in my affairs."
The weight of Dillion Group had largely fallen on his shoulders. He was exhausted and had no energy to deal with Carla and her actions.
Carla, however, believed his unwillingness to work on their marriage was due to Brittany. She bit her lip in frustration, "So, nothing I do will make a difference?"
William believed that he'd made his stance clear enough and walked past her into the guest room..
In a sudden fit of anger, Carla scattered the items on her vanity across the room.
After entering the guest room, William headed straight for the bathroom.
When he emerged, he called Brittany, "Bri, don't take what Carla said to heart." Half-awake, Brittany propped herself up and replied, "I didn't give it much thought."
"Alright. Let's meet tomorrow. I have a project I'd like to discuss with you." "Okay."
After hanging up, Brittany fell back to sleep.
As for the project William mentioned, Brittany had been eyeing it for quite some time.
It was said to be a piece of real estate that would soon be greatly beneficial due to a new government policy. If they could somehow secure it, the Dustin Group would not have to worry about resources for the coming years.
The Dustin Group had just recovered from a crisis and needed a big project to boost their morale, and more importantly, to prove her capabilities.
The next day.
Brittany and William agreed to meet at the Dillion Group.
The secretary led Brittany upstairs, “Ms. Dustin, Mr. Dillion is still in a meeting. Please wait."
"Alright, thank you."
Brittany entered the office, and the secretary brewed a cup of coffee.
The beans were from Craneville, Brittany's favorite. When they were together, William always made sure to keep a supply at the office for Brittany.
Having worked with William for many years, the secretary knew that well and treated Brittany with utmost respect.
Brittany waited for about an hour in the office before William arrived.
The meeting must not have gone smoothly, he seemed annoyed. But the moment he saw Brittany in his office, his irritation dissolved.
He pushed open the door, "I'm sorry to keep you waiting for so long."
Brittany stood, "Mr. Dillion."
She was very professional, keeping her personal and work life separate. In situations like that, it was business as usual.
