Chapter 781

Did Joie really cause Daniel's tumble? But why did Daniel claim to have fallen on his own?

Brittany's blood was boiling. She was on the brink of storming over to give Joie a piece of her mind. But a shred of rationality kept her rooted in place. She took a deep breath, striving to keep her cool. "Brittany, calm down. Rage isn't going to solve anything."

She needed to devise a plan that would make Joie pay a painful price!

Brittany quietly slipped away, no longer in the mood to attend the wrap-up party and left the scene.

Once she got into her car, Brittany gripped the steering wheel so tightly that her entire body was trembling.

After an indeterminable amount of time, Brittany's thoughts were interrupted by a phone call.

She thought it was Isaac, but a glance at the screen revealed it was Zella.

Brittany picked up the call.

"Did you send me that email?" Zella's voice was calm and collected.

Brittany didn't bother to hide the truth. "Zella, we're friends, after all. I didn't want

you to be deceived."

Moreover, considering the numerous rumors circulating, Zella might have been aware of them already. Indeed, Zella did.

"What do you want, Brittany?"

Zella felt guilty towards Brittany. She approached Brittany with a purpose five years ago, yet Brittany had been genuinely kind to her. "Zella, how about striking a deal?" Brittany suggested, "You want Marcel, and I want Joie to pay for what she did. We can work together." Zella hesitated, "What do you have in mind?"

"She's accepted a new series, which was funded by Grandeur Capital. I'm sure you know what to do."

Zella was silent for a moment before finally giving in, "OK. This is a compensation for my actions five years ago. Don't contact me again after this." They were never meant to be on the same team, but she also didn't want things to get ugly with Brittany.

After the call ended, Brittany leaned on the steering wheel, taking a long while to calm down.

When Brittany got home, Daniel was seated on the thick carpet, a science book spread out before him. Brittany changed her shoes and walked over to Daniel.

"Daniel Salter."

Daniel was taken aback by her severity and looked up, "Mom, what's wrong?"

"Are you hiding something from me?"

Brittany didn't understand why Daniel would cover up for Joie.

Daniel looked confused, "Mom, what are you talking about?"

Could it be that his secret cupcake indulgence was discovered? Or did she replace out about the little peck he stole from Abby at school?

Brittany made her stance clear, "Daniel, you told me that you fell on your own. But it was Joie who pushed you, wasn't it?" Daniel hadn't expected that. He instinctively put his book down, "Mom, I told Dad about it."

He didn't tell Brittany because he didn't want her to clash with Joie.

"Your dad knows it?"

"Yeah, he already taught that bad lady a lesson."

Daniel was no fool; he wouldn't just take a hit lying down.

Brittany recalled hearing about Joie losing several endorsements and scripts recently. So, Isaac had been pulling strings behind

the scenes.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Daniel knew he shouldn't have kept it from her, "I was afraid you'd get into a fight with the bad lady. I didn't want you to be upset.” Brittany knew her son's thoughtfulness and pinched his cheek, "Darling, you're the most important person to me. You can't keep things from me, okay?" Daniel opened his mouth, his eyes sparkling, "I understand."

Brittany kissed Daniel, made him dinner herself, and sat with him until he was full. She then told him a story and put him to bed.

After tucking Daniel in, Brittany dialed Isaac's number.

But there was no answer on the other end.
