"Tonight, Grandma, I prepared a feast just for you," Joie told Grace, urging her to eat.

Grace chuckled, patting Joie's hand. "Bless your heart, dear."

Joie settled down next to Grace, glancing around the room until her eyes landed on Isaac and Brittany.

Brittany had not expected Joie to come to Grace so quickly. It was like she was following her script.

Daniel rushed over, wrapping Grace in a bear hug. "I've missed you."

Joie shifted uncomfortably at the sight of Daniel.

Ignoring her, Daniel continued to dote on Grace, his constant affection making her giggle.

Isaac and Brittany took their seats.

The housekeeper, Emily, had prepared a chicken pot pie for them, her specialty. Setting it on the table, she said, "Enjoy, Sir, Ma'am."

"Thank you, Emily," Brittany responded with a smile.

Emily had always been fond of Brittany. Now that she and Isaac were back together, her affection seemed to double.

"Be sure to eat plenty, Ma'am. It's good for you."

"Of course."

Brittany took a few bites, praising Emily's cooking. "This is delicious, Emily. Thank you."

Emily beamed at the compliment. "I'm glad you like it, Ma'am. I baked some cupcakes and other treats this afternoon. I'll pack them up for you to take home."

"Okay."

Joie watched their interaction with a sour expression. Emily was hardly warm towards her, but she treated Brittany like a queen. She was clearly trying to curry favor with her.

Joie served herself some of the pot pie, then turned to Isaac, attempting to butter him up. "Bro Isaac, I heard your new business venture is doing well. Do you think there's a place for me?" The room fell silent at her question.

"What could you possibly do? You're an actress," Isaac retorted, clearly not interested in supporting her idle lifestyle.

Besides, Brittany did not like Joie. If he took Joie in, Brittany would surely be upset. He could not bear to upset her.

Joie could tell what he was implying and felt her eyes well up with tears. "Bro Isaac, how can I continue acting in my current state? I want to learn something new, so I don't just sit around at home all day." Isaac served Brittany another helping of pie and said, "If you're bored, why don't you focus on those cafes you opened?"

The Salter family had been generous to Joie.

Especially Grace, who had invested in several cafes for her when she learned she was interested in it.

Grace even had a professional manager running them, so Joie didn't have to do anything. The income from the cafes was more than enough for her to live comfortably.

Joie paused at Isaac's suggestion. She was not really interested in the cafes; she only opened them to gain a favor from the Salter family.

The money they earned was a mere drop in the bucket for her.

Isaac was not biting, so Joie turned her attention to Brittany. "Ms. Dustin, is it because you don't like me that Bro Isaac won't help me?"

Brittany sighed at her childish display.

"Ms. Joie, if you truly want to work at the company, then apply like everyone else. Submit your resume and interview. If you're capable, I'm sure Zakky wouldn't mind."

If she was incapable, she should not try to use her connections to get in!

Joie felt her face heat up.

Brittany was doing this on purpose. She knew she could not get in, and she was mocking her!

Grace usually spoiled her, but she knew when to be firm. "Joie, Brittany's right. If you want to work at the company, you must earn it. The company is just getting started. We can't make exceptions." Joie was stunned. After a moment, she finally managed to say, "Alright, I'll try my best."

Then she remained silent for the rest of the evening.
