Flair

POV

It's not a phone call that wakes us up the next morning but the incessant chiming of the doorbell over and over again, forcing me from the depths of slumber as I stagger out of bed with Grayson close behind me. "What time is it?" I mumble, feeling nausea and fighting it back.

"7 am" Grayson groaned as we headed downstairs, the front door opening as we reached the base.

We tensed but relaxed when Rachel came sailing in, a wide smile on her face.

"Rachel" I yawned "what are you doing here?"

She laughed "I should ask what are you doing in bed? You used to be up with the sun Flair, what happened?" she teased. I glared at her and she laughed even harder, coming over and kissing me on the cheek, while Grayson gave a yawn. "I'm sorry, I couldn't resist," she said with bright sparkling eyes "and I wanted to catch Grayson before he went to work" she added.

She did? That was a bit strange. I shot Grayson a sidelong glance but he was shrugging, as confused as I was.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, but I doubted it.

There was such a look of excitement on her face. "Spit it out already" I urged her, grateful that Grayson and I were both wearing pajamas, although Grayson was only wearing pants.

She held out her hand in reply, almost dancing on the spot. It took me a moment to comprehend what I was seeing. There was a single diamond ring sparkling brightly on her ring finger. I gasped and put my hands to my cheeks. "Is that what I think it is?" I stammered as she began to nod.

"It is" she squealed "I'm engaged. He popped the question last night" she cried as we both squealed out loud and hugged each other jumping up and down while Grayson smiled.

"Congratulations Rachel" Grayson said, stepping forward and hugging her tightly as she grinned at him "I'm happy for you

both."

"Thank you" she beamed "Timothy said you gave him the courage to do it, so I guess I owe you a big thank you" she laughed.

The bodyguards stayed subtly in the distance. Grayson kissed Rachel on the cheek and shot me a wink "I'm going to get ready for work" he said smoothly, leaving me and Rachel in the kitchen as he headed upstairs.

"I need coffee" I mumbled, heading to the coffee machine and starting it up "Rachel you want a cup?" I asked.

She shook her head adamantly "I've had three cups already and I'm wired right now" she said giggling "I don't think I should have any more caffeine."

I wrinkled my nose at her "Probably not" I agreed drily, pouring myself a cup and then pouring a bowl of cereal and bringing it to the table.

"So how did he propose?" I asked excitedly.

"It was so romantic" she breathed "and simple" she added honestly "he took me for a walk along the beach last night while the sun went down. We watched it set and then when I turned around he was on one knee holding out the ring box. He was so nervous" she said wide-eyed "and he stammered a lot" she laughed remembering it "but it was so sweet and so perfect. Of course I said yes" she added hastily "but gods, Flair, I just wasn't expecting it" she admitted. "But are you happy?" I asked.

"Yes," she whispered, watching me take a sip of coffee and make a face "I never thought I would fall for a guy like Timothy but he's one of the sweetest, most honorable men I've ever met and he makes me happy Flair, like no man ever has." I gave her a wide smile "Then I'm happy for you."

I dug into the cereal as she tapped her fingers on the table. "Of course, you'll be my maid of honor," she said giving me a sidelong glance "Nobody else is perfect for the role like you are" she teased.

"I would be honored to be your maid of honor," I told her, my eyes growing misty as I fought back tears.

"The wedding is going to be so fabulous" Rachel continued gazing into the distance "I already have ideas for the color scheme."

"Whoa, slow down" I laughed as she gave me a mock offensive look "There's plenty of time to plan your wedding" I added. She exhaled slowly. "I keep telling myself that but I mean, can you blame me for being excited?" she asked "You were the first ones I had to tell."

It was a harsh reminder that she had no family left. Both of us looked down at the table.

Grayson's footsteps came thundering down the stairs. He looked handsome as ever as he came waltzing in clad in his suit, a pensive look on his face. Many sentences in this chapter have been removed because you are not reading them on Jo b n ib.co m. "You look dashing," Rachel told him as he winked at her.

"Well I do try," he told her blandly, pouring a cup of coffee and sipping at it "I'll have to remember to tell Timothy congratulations," he said chuckling "Poor guy was so flustered at the thought of asking you to marry him and yet I knew you would say yes." "Oh really?" Rachel said sweetly "What if I had said no?" she was teasing him.

"Then I would be taking him to a pub right now and getting him nice and drunk," Grayson said blithely.

"You're so kind," I said giggling.

He poured the rest of his mug down the sink and set it on the drainer. He leaned over and gave me a kiss. I closed my eyes and relished the feel of his lips on my own, my heart skipping a beat as he gently deepened it. He pulled away as I blushed a bright red. Rachel made a fanning motion with her hand.

"Whew," she said, "that was hot you guys."

Grayson shook his head and laughed "Be careful" he warned me, "I have some things to look into at the office."

"Like what?" I asked intrigued.

"Well there's some financials the investigators looking into in regards to the company and a client I turned away" he murmured without elaborating "he should have had enough time to look into it by now. I just have this feeling" he exhaled looking frustrated "and with everything else going on, I might just push Knox to keep looking. If anybody can get to the knowledge of who is behind all this it's him."

Rachel looked impressed and wary at the same time. "Do you know how many favors you owe him by now?" she asked as Grayson hesitated.

"No but he's not the kind to insist is he?" he asked.

I snorted "He's holding onto them for something drastic or that he desperately wants. Otherwise, he would have asked for something by now."

Grayson looked concerned now. "Damn, I thought he was just being a good brother-in-law" he muttered.

I blew him a kiss "Go to work, honey. Rachel and I are going to have a long talk about wedding details" I said tiredly, already feeling exhausted as I looked at Rachel's shining face.

He smirked. "What if Timothy wants to be included in the wedding details?" he asked.

We stared at him "Since when does a man care about the wedding?" Rachel asked confused "I thought they were happy so long as there was a bar and plenty of drinks being served afterwards."

Grayson looked affronted by that. "Well, we didn't even have that," I said to Rachel, opening my eyes wide and looking at her innocently "We just got married at the civil registry."

"I know" she moaned dramatically "you missed out."

"I'm going" Grayson muttered, "because I'm starting to feel extremely guilty."

I giggled and waved as he left. Roscoe barked a few times and then came bounding back to me.

"So Flair" Rachel asked as I looked at her "I need to get this wedding up and running really soon or I might have to do the civil registry like you did" she confessed in a low whisper.

I frowned. I didn't understand the rush. Rachel was the type to want a luxurious wedding, with the fancy dress and the beautiful centerpieces. She wasn't going to want a rushed affair or to elope. I c****d my head and studied her thoughtfully. There was very little that would make Rachel want to give up her idea of a perfect wedding, let alone make her feel as though it had to be rushed.

"What aren't you saying?" I asked her quietly.

She looked nervous, biting her lip and leaning forward. "See the thing is," she said worriedly "I was going to tell Timothy last night but I couldn't after he proposed. It didn't seem right to ruin it," she said her eyes going cloudy.

"Tell him what Rachel? Are you sick?" I asked in concern.

She shook her head "No, not anything like that" she said exhaling "Gods no. But it's a bit embarrassing" she admitted, avoiding my gaze.

"We literally tell each other everything, including when we have our periods" I deadpanned "I can't see why you would feel embarrassed about whatever this is."

She giggled and flipped her hair over her shoulder, glancing uneasily over her shoulder, even though the bodyguard inside was out of earshot and maintaining our privacy.

"Okay okay" she whispered conspiratorially "I'll tell you. I just don't want to take the wind out of your sails" she confessed. "God, just tell me, you're killing me" I pouted.

"I want to have the wedding over and done with before I start to show," she said in a low voice as I stared at her "I'm pregnant Flair. I was going to tell Timothy last night but that's when he decided to propose. I don't know how he's going to take it" she paused "we've always used protection and it wasn't planned but, he doesn't strike me as the type to walk away from his child."

I flung my arms around her "Oh Rachel, double good news" I breathed sincerely "and Timothy is going to be ecstatic when you tell him. I have no doubts he's going to be a very, happy, happy man" I told her meaningfully and watched her eyes light back up as she began to chatter excitedly about her theme ideas for the wedding.
