The Billionaire’s Hidden Heiress -
Chapter 140
Flair POV
My poor head is spinning. Poor Grandfather is now sitting, looking deadly pale as he glares at his granddaughter. My brothers are relentless, ruthlessly attacking Charlotte verbally while she continues to stand there, helpless to do anything but attempt to defend herself against the continuous onslaught of their accusations as she tries to convince a restless and angry crowd that she's innocent. She's fast losing the battle. Johnathon is also just as ruthless and I can't help but look at him differently now, impressed at his inner strength and the determination he depicts as he confronts his wife, the woman who tried to kill him, not once, but twice. "I haven't done anything else" Charlotte denies and Knox raises an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah?" Johnathon cuts in, turning to look at Grandfather who glances at him confused "How about the empty Adderall pill container I found underneath the bed not long after poor Grandfather had his heart attack? You put them in his drink or food, didn't you? It's why he hasn't had one since."
A large inhale from Grandfather. He clutches his chest and glares at Charlotte who flinches. "You tried to kill me" he shouts, while Charlotte's face turns stony "You little devil. Spawn of Satan" he curses "I should have known" he yelled while I tried to rub his shoulder and my father tried to calm him down.
"If you had treated me kinder I wouldn't have felt the need to" Charlotte screamed, finally giving vent to her innermost feelings "You have always treated Grayson differently to me. You have always favored him over me. All my life I've been compared to him. I knew you were going to try and replace a way to change the stipulations so you could give him the company. You gave him the ring I wanted" she continued, pointing angrily at Grandfather whose nostrils flared "So yes, I did what I had to do. You didn't die, did you?" she yelled, "just like the stubborn bastard you've always been." Grandfather tried to stand but my father and Grayson quietly held him down as he struggled futilely against them. "Grandfather please calm down" I pleaded as Charlotte continued to glower at us "Please. Think of your health" I added as he shot a mutinous expression towards his granddaughter.
"That's not all though," lan said, c*****g his head "Charlotte you've been very busy, haven't you," he said, while the crowd looked confused.
How much more could Charlotte Deluca possibly be responsible for? The events of tonight were so shocking and yet so thrilling to the crowd who was greedily drinking everything in. They were never going to forget tonight, that was for sure. This was a night to go down in history. Charlotte Deluca was being destroyed right in front of their eyes.
Charlotte licked her lips and glanced pleadingly at lan. "lan, please, no more" she begged "I can't take anymore. Haven't you done enough?" she whispered, bowing her head.
"You sold Mr Ronaldo the information he wanted in order for him to kidnap Flair" Knox's voice chimed in and it was filled with hatred.
Blinding hatred. My mouth parted open in surprise. I knew Charlotte had hated me, but even I hadn't put this one together. Grayson had stiffened. He was looking at his sister as though she was a monster. As though he'd never seen anybody quite like her before. "I didn't know it was going to go that far" she tried to protest.
"Save it. You wanted Flair dead" Knox said furiously "and if we hadn't saved her, she would have been raped, you b***h" his words were deadly and his tone was dangerous.
Charlotte winced. lan was still staring at her as though he'd like to squish her under his shoe, as though she was nothing but a lowly cockroach to him.
"How could you" I whispered "I did nothing to you. I..."
"Nothing," she said furiously "except ensure that lan would never date me. You told him what you thought of me, that's why he said no when I asked him that day."
I was confused. lan's face was brooding. "I said no to the date because I knew how you treated Flair," he said with a growl "and anybody that treats my family like that doesn't deserve my respect."
"This was over a date and my marriage to Grayson," I said in shock "Are you that petty Charlotte Deluca? Do you have any idea what happened to me because of that kidnapping? Do you have any idea what effect it has had on my life, or on Grayson?" She laughed "I don't care. I hope you got hurt. I hope they did things to you" she spat out, as lan and Knox let out low growls and Grayson clenched his fists "I hate you" she screamed at me "why couldn't you have just died. You and Grandfather, you both were supposed to."
I shook my head. She was unhinged. She was crazed and looked like she wanted to bolt. I was surprised she hadn't tried already. The crowd was muttering amongst themselves. None of them looked at Charlotte Deluca the same again.
"Sam," I said quietly and looked at Knox who nodded sadly.
"What?" Grayson asked, mishearing me.
"Sam," I said louder and Grayson glanced at me, his eyes mirroring the sadness I was sure that was reflected in mine. "Who?" Charlotte asked confused.
Was she oblivious or did she have no idea of the man who had been killed? Tears filled my eyes. She had to have been responsible. "You sent the poisoned flowers" I whispered, a lump in my throat. "The ones that Sam touched and put in the vase instead." Her eyes brightened and realization dawned. My anger rose. "He died instead of me" my voice rose, shaking slightly "That man was innocent. All he was doing was trying to protect me and you" I was almost screaming at her now, my voice unrecognizable as Grayson reached out and grabbed at me desperately, holding me back as I felt the intense desire to attack her "You killed him. He had a family" I howled "kids. You b***h" I screamed, as Grayson wrapped his arm around my waist and dragged me back "You f*****g bitch." "You're nothing but a murderer Charlotte Deluca" I shouted, trying to yank Grayson's hands away while Knox and lan began to move towards me and Charlotte narrowed her eyes "You coldhearted manipulative, b***h!"
She made a sudden turn and tried to dash into the house. The bodyguards didn't have to move. Two authorities came out of the house and grabbed her as she tried to resist. One looked towards Knox, tapping their ear.
"Sir, we heard every word and her confessions," he said with a sly grin "You were right. She couldn't resist. There's enough here to put her behind bars for a very, very, long time."
Karen was trembling, her arms wrapped around herself, tears dripping down her eyes. Charlotte tried to kick out at the police who yanked her arms behind her back and began to cuff her.
"Mother" she screamed, turning her head "Mother you have to help me. Please" she screamed.
Karen raised her eyes to her daughter. There was a look on her face. She looked broken.
"I can't" she whispered "god forgive me but what you did. I can never..." she shook her head and burst into tears, rocking back and forth as Charlotte looked at her betrayed.
Once Charlotte was safely cuffed and being held by one officer, the other one moved to restrain Mr Ferryweather who was brought back into their vicinity. We were all agog. Ian and Knox joined us. Grandfather looked sick. I was weeping into Grayson's shoulder. "We're sorry we couldn't tell you beforehand," Knox said quietly "but we needed a real reaction from you."
Johnathon wheeled himself over. We watched as Charlotte and Mr Ferryweather were dragged, kicking and screaming out of the yard, while the guests began to talk amongst themselves. "The party is over folks" lan yelled, eyeing everyone with dark eyes "I must insist that everybody makes it back to their homes."
The crowd immediately dispersed, eager to inform their friends and family of what had just happened.
"Grandfather," I said tenderly as he began to sob, "this isn't your fault."
"I knew she was up to something. I just didn't realize she would sink this far" he blustered "Grant I'm sorry about this. What she did to Flair" he added, speaking to my father who shook his head and smiled at him. "Don't worry about it. None of it's your fault. I think you should come back to the mansion with me and spend some time with us" he added thoughtfully "Get away for a few days."
John nodded and quietly got to his feet. There was no fight left in him. Johnathon lowered his eyes. "John, I will immediately start getting my stuff together so that I can move out. Given the circumstances, I think it's best I go back to the house. Luckily I haven't found a buyer for it yet" he said apologetically, glancing back at me as I nodded at him.
"If you think that's best," John said blankly.
Karen had disappeared.
"Grayson I'm so sorry" I whispered but his arms went around me.
"I should be apologizing to you. I should have known that this was Charlotte all along" he said remorsefully "I was blind to how badly she wanted the company and the risks she was willing to take to get her hands on it. Forgive me" he begged, and I stared at him with tears trailing down my cheeks.
"There is nothing to forgive" I whispered wrapping my arms around him and sobbing.
"I'm sorry," he said, over my head to Knox and lan.
"You don't need to apologize for your sister's actions," Knox said calmly as lan merely shrugged "but there is something that we do need to discuss at a later date Grayson, and don't think I haven't forgotten."
I sensed Grayson's confusion. Knox gave a low chuckle "You still owe me a favor Grayson and I intend on collecting but for now, let's get all of this sorted first. This is going to cause a media frenzy" he added with an exhale "and you and we have to work together to get Flair through this and then there's the future of your company" he added grimly.
Silence. None of us wanted to go there, just yet. As a group, we silently began to walk out of the yard, lost in our thoughts. None of us knew what was going to happen next.
