The Blacklisted Rogue -
Chapter 37
Elijah POV
Joe lunged at me with his fist raised. I blocked him and retaliated with a swift roundhouse kick that he barely managed to dodge.
We kept going, barely missing each other for several minutes.
Joe was a skilled fighter. He was one of the few that had been able to get the upper hand when sparring with me.
It had been two days since Alpha Hudson arrived and the evacuation drills had started this morning. The Red Ridge members had quickly adapted and participated in the drills like the Blue Eclipse members.
I admired the pack's ability to just absorb over 150 people like it was nothing. It just shows how effective things could be if everyone just worked together.
Luke was currently sleeping on the couch in the Beta wing since Sally and I occupied the guest room. Alpha Hudson had moved in with Avery in her quarters, something that Alpha Jordan grumbled about at first. Avery straight up flipped him off and told him that it was her mate and her decision. He couldn't exactly argue with that.
Joe and I had been working tightly together since I joined the warriors. He was determined to salvage as much as he could of my wolf, so we worked with a lot of different exercises, both mental and physical. It worked, I noticed that my wolf had gotten bigger and stronger over the past few days.
Joe had also come to be my best friend. Even though he was 10 years older than me, we had hit it off and I admired him a lot.
I managed to trap Joe in a headlock and he tapped my arm to surrender.
When he stood up, he laughed.
"Either you are getting better or I'm getting lazy." He winked.
I laughed too.
"Well, you're the one training me." I shrugged.
I put my shirt on and tossed a bottle of water to Joe.
"You've come a long way in the past few weeks." Joe said. "I'm kinda proud."
I smiled.
"You should be." I replied. "I could never have done this without you."
Before Joe could reply, the siren was heard.
I frowned.
"I thought the drills were over for today." I said.
I looked at Joe and saw the blood drain from his face when he received a mind-link.
"That's not a drill, Elijah." He whispered. "We're under attack!"
We both reacted at the same time, rushing out of the training grounds and shifted into our wolves.
Where to? I asked Joe through our mind-link.
Stay close to me, Kid, and you'll be fine. Joe reassured.
Sally POV
My fingers slipped as I desperately tried to put pressure on the wound in the warrior's thigh. Alex worked quickly beside me while he told me what to do. They came from nowhere, attacking everyone they could reach.
I was thankful for the drills earlier, we had at least a little bit of practice.
Luna Roberta had quickly taken charge and led civilian people to the safehouses.
"Are you sure you shouldn't get to the safehuses too, Alex?" I asked.
Alex shook his head.
"I'm needed here." He replied sternly. "I won't hide when I know that I'm needed. Besides, if I'm being attacked by a big bad wolf, you can protect me."
I stared at him while a few nurses from the hospital whisked away the warrior we just stabilized.
"You know that I'm not a warrior, right?" I deadpanned. "If we are attacked, we're both dead." Alex shrugged.
"You can go if you want." He said and moved on to the next injured person he found. "I'm staying."
I sighed and stayed by his side, moving among the injured people and helping the best we could.
George's wolf stopped a few yards away from us.
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING??? He bellowed through the mind-link. GET OUT OF HERE NOW!!!
Your mate won't leave as long as there are injured that need help. I replied and shrugged.
George's wolf closed his eyes.
I don't have time for this. He sighed. Keep him safe, please Lala.
I smiled.
You keep an eye on my mate, and I'll keep an eye on yours.
George's wolf nodded and took off.
We had just settled by a warrior she-wolf with a bite wound across her abdomen when we heard snarling behind us.
Alex and I turned around and saw a Midnight wolf stalking towards us.
"You're up." Alex said. "I'll start with the girl."
I sighed and quickly stripped off my clothes. The wolf pounced on me at the same moment that I shifted and pinned me to the ground.
I snapped my jaws at it and managed to bite down on the wolf's front leg. It howled in pain and I used my hind legs to push it off me.
In Red Ridge, she-wolves weren't allowed to train, so the only fight training I had was what Luke and George taught me when we were kids before mom found out and stopped us. We clashed once again and I violently bit any part of the wolf I could get to.
I heard the wolf whimper and bit down harder until he stopped moving and I released him from my grip.
Blood coated my teeth and the taste made me gag.
I scrambled away from the wolf and shifted back to my human form.
My body was covered in the wolf's blood and my stomach churned.
I just killed someone.
Panicked, I looked in Alex's direction. He just finished up with the she-wolf he was treating and headed over to me.
"Are you hurt?" He asked worriedly.
I shook my head.
"I-I don't think so." I stammered.
"I-I j-just killed someone." I added, starting blankly at thedead wolf in front of me.
Alex put his hand on my shoulder.
"No, you just saved us." He said. "There's a big difference. Now, take a deep breath and let's get back to work."
I nodded and he helped me up.
A familiar scent filled my nostrils and I turned around to see Beta Rafe stand behind me.
I quickly got in front of Alex to protect him.
"Come with me, Luna." Beta Rafe said. "And your friend will not get hurt."
"Get back to the safe house." I said to Alex. "Now!"
Hearing the urgency in my voice, Alex picked up his equipment and started running.
"How cute of you to protect a lowly human. I didn't expect that from you."
His voice sent shivers down my spine, but I did my best to keep a calm composure.
I quickly looked over my shoulder and saw Alex heading inside the hospital to safety.
Crouching down on all fours, I shifted into my wolf and snarled at him.
Beta Rafe shook his head and smirked.
"Do you think I will fight you, girl?" He sneered. "Alpha would not be pleased if his Luna was harmed."
Before I could dodge it, he pulled out a gun and shot a dart at me.
The dart hit my neck and I let out a whine as I fell to the ground. The familiar burning of the Wolfsbane worked it's way into my bloodstream and I shifted back. Read more free novels at Narugi.com Rough hands grabbed my arms and dragged me away as I whimpered from the pain.
Elijah POV
They were everywhere.
Joe and I jumped into the fight the second we got there, clawing and biting at anyone that tried to get past us.
The forest was filled with dead bodies and blood splattered on the trees. Howls of pain echoed in my ears and I had to force myself to focus on the task at hand.
A movement caught my eye and I snapped my head in that direction.
I froze when I saw who's wolf it was.
The Midnight pack's Gamma.
My father.
He looked at me with a burning rage that made my heart shatter.
With no ties to the midnight pack, I was unable to communicate with him. When he receded to pounce on me, I just stood there.
How could I fight him? He was my father, after all.
My father's wolf got interrupted mid-leap by another wolf crashing into him.
It was Joe.
Joe was a fierce warrior, but I knew that my father was very strong.
I had to do something.
When my father pinned Joe to the ground, I pounced on him and tackled him off of him.
We rolled around on the ground and I desperately tried to get on top of him.
It was a futile effort, my father was too strong for me.
My wolf howled in pain when he buried his fangs into my shoulder.
I kicked my legs trying to get him off, but he was holding on to me too tightly.
Suddenly, I felt him being pushed off me and I saw Joe and my father wrestling in a wild fight.
I staggered to my feet only to hear Joe howl in pain.
My father had pinned him to the ground and bit his neck. Blood oozed out of Joe and he kicked frantically to get my father to loosen his grip.
Before I could say anything, my father jerked his head away and effectively snapped Joe's neck.
