The Blacklisted Rogue -
Chapter 40
Sally POV
A quick inspection of the room revealed a huge bathroom behind a door beside the bed. On the other side of the room was a door that led to a walk-in closet. Half the closet was filled with men's clothes with Alpha Richard's scent all over them. I assumed that I was currently occupying his bedroom. It made me cringe when I realized that I had just slept in his bed. The other side of the closet was filled with newly purchased women's clothes in my size. The drawers revealed the skimpiest underwear I had ever seen.
"He's delusional if he thinks I'm gonna wear that." I muttered and threw it back in the drawer. "It barely covers anything."
I tried to come up with some plan to escape. The door was locked and even though my wolf was weakened from the Wolfsbane and my senses were dulled, I could still hear a guard on the other side of the door.
That left the windows. The bedroom was located on the third floor, so I couldn't just jump.
I strained my neck to see better and saw a pipe along the wall beside the window.
Bingo!
Just as I started to finalize my plan, the door was unlocked.
I froze when I saw Elijah's father walk in.
There was no way it could be anyone else. They had the same eyes.
Remembering what Elijah had told me, I immediately hated him.
"You need to drink this." He said and held up a cup. "Alpha's orders."
"Your Alpha can go f*ck himself." I muttered.
He smirked.
"I can see why the Moon Goddess paired you with my son. You have the same sharp tongue."
The thought of Elijah made tears fill my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Not in front of him.
He seemed to notice them anyway because he walked up to me.
"You don't need to cry, beautiful." He cooed. "Not because of him."
I frowned.
"Your son is dead." I spat. "Don't you feel anything?"
He shrugged.
"He was too weak to fight back, so he got put down." He stated flatly. "That's the way of life, honey."
I stared at him and shook my head slowly.
"He might have been your son, but you don't know the first thing about him." I snarled.
He sneered at me, but I could see the slight hint of pain in his eyes.
"Drink up." He said and held the cup closer to my face.
I scrunched up my nose at the smell.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Liquid wolfsbane." He replied. "Alpha can't trust you yet, so your wolf must be subdued."
I backed away from him.
"No way." I said.
He sighed.
"Look Sally." He said. "If you don't drink it, then we have to inject you with it. It's your choice. But the more you keep refusing, the less Alpha will trust you, and we have to give you more. And it will go on and on and on until you possibly die a very painful death from Wolfsbane poisoning."
I didn't move. I just kept glaring at him.
He held out the cup to me.
"Don't do it harder than it has to be." He sighed.
I shook my head.
"I'd rather die." I growled.
He put the cup down on a small table and pulled out a syringe from his pocket.
"Here goes." He muttered.
"You are a monster." I gasped when he started to walk towards me.
I backed away and jumped when I hit the wall.
"Don't move."
I looked around me and realized that he had me cornered. There was nowhere to run. "Please." I whispered.
He didn't even react. He grabbed me and pushed the syringe into my arm.
When he had emptied the contents of the syringe into my bloodstream, he let me go.
I fell to my knees and groaned from the pain.
He kneeled beside me, took hold of my chin and forced me to look at him.
"A word of advice, Sally." He whispered. "You are trapped with nowhere to go. Give Alpha what he wants and he could make you very happy."
The expression in his eyes showed concern that looked genuine, but I wouldn't let myself fall for it.
"Get away from me." I hissed through gritted teeth, still fighting off the pain.
He ignored me and lifted me up, bridal style. I pushed against his chest, but he put me down on the bed.
Once he had covered me with the duvet, he caressed my cheek.
"You are my Luna and I am your Gamma." He mumbled. "I know you don't trust me right now, but I hope one day that you will be able to. Just know that I would die for you. After all, you are my son's mate."
For a second, I saw the pain flash in his eyes again.
I was deep in thought when he walked out the door and locked it behind him.
Elijah's father was definitely in pain.
Was he so sure that he was doing things right that he bullied Elijah mercilessly, only to mourn when he died and then proceed to care for his dead son's mate?
Everything I knew about him collided in my brain and made my head spin.
The Wolfsbane could possibly have something to do with that too, though.
I forced myself to relax, thinking that my body could process the Wolfsbane quicker if I was asleep.
Then I would try to escape.
*
I woke up a while later, feeling the pain from the Wolfsbane had started to subside. Stiffly, I rolled out of the bed and decided to explore the closet again. Winter was approaching fast and it was really cold outside, so I couldn't make my escape wolfless in the winter without appropriate clothing.
I found a pair of black high-waisted jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, a pair of boots, a hoodie and a jacket and put it all on.
I didn't know when they'd be coming back for me, but I was sure the second I broke the window, the guard would barge in.
So I slowly started to move a dresser to block the wall. It wouldn't stop them, but it would definitely slow them down.
I found a large, heavy statue in one of the bookshelves.
Perfect!
I took a deep breath and aimed for the window.
The glass shattered and I quickly tried to get rid of any excess shards along the edge of the window.
The door behind me started to unlock, so I quickly reached out and grabbed hold of the pipe that ran along the house. The structure creaked and rocked a little, but at that point I didn't care. It just needed to hold long enough for me to get to the bottom. I quickly slid down the pipe, hoping that I wouldn't break anything if I fell.
The descent to the ground went a little quicker than I expected, so I tumbled to the ground when I reached the bottom.
Quickly I got up and started running.
I heard shouting behind me and I knew that it wouldn't take long for them to catch up with me.
I quickly ran to the forest and remembered the last time we escaped from here.
Frantically, I looked around for any signs of mud, but it hadn't been raining in a while, so the ground was dry.
I cursed and continued running.
The sound of paws thundered through the forest and I quickly changed direction when a wolf stood in my way.
Adrenaline rushed through me and I ducked when a wolf leaped to tackle me to the ground. The wolf landed gracefully and I tried to run in the opposite direction. I stopped when I realized that I was surrounded.
The gray wolf beside me snarled at me and I backed away. My back hit the trunk of a tree and I felt myself starting to tremble.
A low growl came from another wolf and the grey one backed away.
I studied the wolf. It was chocolate brown with brown eyes.
He shifted back to human and my eyes widened.
It was Elijah's father.
"Stand down." He commanded. "I'll take it from here."
When the wolves had walked out of sight, he gently took my arm.
I tried to pull away from him, but his grip hardened.
"Stop." He hissed. "You just made a bad situation worse."
I frowned.
"He didn't expect me to escape or something?" I mocked.
Elijah's father looked sad, making me more confused.
"No." He whispered. "He was hoping you would, so he could teach you a lesson."
My blood ran cold. Even though I didn't exactly know what he was going to do to me, I had my suspicions.
"Please, help me." I pleaded.
He shrugged.
"I'm sorry, Sally." He said and started to drag me through the forest. "You should have listened to me. Now you're on your own."
I jerked my hand away from him and he frowned.
"Then kill me." I said without hesitation.
He pulled me to himself and whispered in my ear.
"I can't. There are consequences when failing your Alpha."
He grabbed my arm and we started walking through the forest.
"Elijah never understood it." He said. "The duty comes first, no matter what you think about the orders carried out."
"And what do you think?" I asked. "About your orders right now?"
He didn't reply and kept walking.
"That terrible, huh?" I smirked.
"Please stop talking before you get us both into trouble." He groaned.
I stopped.
"What's your name?" I asked.
He smiled.
"Nick."
"Hey Nick... Do you know what Alpha Richard is going to do to me?"
I bit my lip to prevent it from trembling.
He shrugged.
"Not really."
He almost sounded sad.
"I'm sorry, Sally." He mumbled.
We kept walking in silence.
A few minutes later we reached the packhouse.
My heart sank when I saw Alpha Richard coming toward us.
Instinctively I tried to back away, but Nick's grip on my arm was too strong. Alpha Richard stopped in front of me and waved his index finger in front of my face. "Naughty girl." He scolded. "I've been looking forward to this."
