The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 27
CAULDER
\t"I can feel your hostility from here," Winslow said, walking towards me. "You don't even know what I want."
\t"I know enough about you," I snapped. "You planned to kill my mother. Why would I hear you out?"
\tWinslow clicked his tongue. "That was over eighteen years ago. Your mother should really learn to let go of her grudges. I have only shown I want to help ever since."
\t"Really? What about Remy? How is keeping who she really is a secret helping her?" The man in front of me was the reason I had to keep this secret from my sister. The rage started to boil inside of me, and I could feel the ball of magic in my core growing as a
response.
\tWinslow smirked at me. "You don't know the whole story. What you need to understand is the more people who know about the prophecy and know about Remy, the more danger she will be in. There are people who will want to kill her, people who want to use her, and people who want to destroy her heart and soul just because she is the Daughter of Moon and Magic."
\tMy anger continued to grow as I heard about all of the different people who would want to mistreat Remy. She deserved better than that. She was kind and caring and was the type of person who would put her all to make the people she cared about feel loved. She was smart and hard working, and she didn't deserve people to go after her just because of some stupid prophecy.
\t"I still don't understand why Remy can't know the truth." I stood there, silently channeling my rage into my fists. With the wrong move or words, I knew I wouldn't be able to hold back from hitting Winslow.
\t"Because once Remy knows who she is, her powers will start growing. There is no way around it. All we have done to suppress her magic will be for naught. She will light up like a beacon that screams, 'Come replace me. You wouldn't want that, now would you?" Winslow looked me up and down before taking another step forward.
\tRemy was going to be found one way or another. The attack at the party proved that much. She needed to know the risk she was it so she could better protect herself, but if she found out who she was, it would only put her in more danger. It felt like there was no right answer.
\t"Based on your silence, I assume you understand the dilemma," Winslow said.
\t"I see your point," I said through gritted teeth. "But that doesn't explain why you are here now."
\t"Right. Time to get down to business. Tell me, how much do you know about your grandfather, Cain, your mother's father?"
\tlt had been a while since I had heard about that man. When my mother talked about him, she made it very clear that she didn't think of him as a real father. Our only living grandparent, Grandpa Reyland, had adopted our mother, while her real father, Cain, wasn't a part of her life. "Cain was a sorcerer and the source of our magic bloodline. He wasn't really a part of our mother's life, and then he disappeared, never to be seen again."
\t"Is that it?" The way Winslow spoke made me feel like I was missing something huge.
\tl shrugged. "Basically."
\t"Did your mother ever tell you what kind of magic your grandfather used?" Winslow asked.
\t"He's not my grandfather," I quickly corrected. I never knew Cain, but I knew he wasn't around for my mother's life or for ours. Blood related or not, he wasn't my family.
\t"That's not an answer to my question." Winslow didn't blink an eye with his condescending tone.
\tl wanted to punch him for speaking to me like that, but I knew it wasn't worth the effort. "No. I don't know anything about his magic."
\t"He was considered to be one of the most powerful sorcerers, and the Council of Magic entrusted him to assist with what we needed. He had the power to control time, and I have never met another sorcerer with that power. He had real potential to become one of the council elders one day, but then he messed up." Winslow paused for dramatic effect, but I didn't bother feeding into it by reacting to the moment of suspense. I didn't see the point anyway. "He decided to give up his powers, and he gave them to your mother." \t"I have never seen her control time," I said. My mother was a strong sorcerer, but she never mentioned any time control abilities. She had never hidden her powers from us before.
\t"Exactly!" Winslow said, just a little too enthusiastically. "The thing is, she was pregnant with you and your sister at the time. There is a high probability that you inherited those powers, especially with the intense power you are already showing. Even now I can see your anger powering your magic aura."
\t"Are you saying you think I can control time?" I asked. Ginger had always commented that I showed great potential as a student sorcerer. A sorcerer's coming of age was older than werewolves, and they didn't come into their full powers until the age of twenty-one. At that time, their powers would blossom, so whatever power I had now would only blossom in three years.
\t"Perhaps with a little bit of training." Winslow smirked at me.
\tA growl emitted from my chest. I saw right through what Winslow was trying to do. He wanted to push me into training with him, and he went directly to me since he knew my mother would never approve.
\t"I'm not training with you." The power inside of me grew even more.
\t"Before you officially decide-"
\t"I've already decided." I kept my voice firm. I was not about to be manipulated by someone like him.
\t"Think about Remy," he said, giving me pause. "Think about all of the people who will go after her if they ever replace out the truth. What are you going to do when the next creature or being attacks her? Are you going to stand by idly or are you going to fight to get stronger so you can protect her from what's to come next? If you train with me, I can guarantee you will be strong enough to protect your sister from the cruel world out there."
\tREMY
\tWhen I made it to the lake, I was surprised to see Blade already standing by the water. He continued staring out at the lake as I approached in my wolf form, so I quickly changed back into my human form and got dressed. As soon as I was decent, Blade turned around, holding a white lily in his hand.
\tl approached slowly, a little confused by the presence of the flower. "What's that?" I asked.
\tHe handed the flower over to me. "For you. I saw it, and I thought you might like it."
\tl took the flower and inhaled the scent. "They're my favorite. How did you know?" My heart raced as I waited for his answer. I was nervous and excited all at once. No one had ever given me a flower before. \t"When I saw it, I instantly thought of you. I didn't know lilies were your favorite flower. I swear." He held his hands up in defense, and it made me chuckle.
\t"Ah, so you didn't stalk me for this information then?" I smiled as I teased him. It felt easy to talk to him this time.
\t"Not this time," he chuckled. I wasn't sure if it was because he felt nervous or because he actually thought I was being funny.
\t"So why would you give me a flower?" I looked down at the lily, nervous for his answer. I couldn't seem to make eye contact with him.
\t"Because pretty girls deserve flowers," Blade said. His voice was smooth and alluring, and I found myself wanting to step closer to him.
\tMy cheeks grew warm at his comment. I wasn't used to this kind of attention. I wasn't one of the pretty girls at school, so I normally didn't get compliments like this. "Do you give all of the pretty girls flowers?"
\t"No, only you." Blade stepped forward and stroked my cheek. His fingers were icy, but they didn't make me shiver. They felt nice against my skin and left a trailing tingle where his fingers stroked. "There's something about you that's drawing me to you. It makes no sense to me."
\tl stepped into Blade a little more, despite logic telling me I should replace out more about him. "I know what you mean. My brain is telling me that I should rat you out to the pack and keep my distance. I don't know you, which makes you dangerous. But I can't help but feel that's not true. You don't seem dangerous to me."
\tBlade smiled and leaned into me. "I'm glad you don't think so, because I don't want to hurt you, and I don't ever want to see you hurt."
