REMY

\tBlack tendrils shot out of the ground, right beneath our car. The ground cracked around the dark magic as it pierced through the vehicle. The car flew into the air and crashed just a few feet in front of me. The force of the car crashing to the ground sent me and several others flying to the asphalt. I landed on my back, and for a moment I couldn't breathe.

\tThe creature was back, and the terrified screams of our pack members filled the air. Panic and chaos swirled around me as we were once again under attack. \t"Someone call Alpha Mark!"

\t"Help!"

\tMore screams echoed, drowning out the specific words of those around me. I pushed myself up, knowing lying there was not an option. I would not be a helpless soul while my classmates were attacked.

\tl helped a couple people to their feet who had been thrown back from the same collision as me. "Get out of here as soon as possible, and replace some warriors to help."

\tMy classmates nodded their heads and didn't say a word as they ran away from me. I had to help as many people as possible while waiting for the others to show up and take over. I looked around, trying to see where the black-tendriled creature was lurking, but the car in front of me was smoking pretty badly, and the dark smoke blurred my vision. I pulled my shirt up to stop myself from breathing in as much smoke, but it did little to actually help.

\tl closed my eyes and listened to my surroundings, painting a picture of what was happening from the sound alone. I could hear several footsteps running away, which was good. The less people that were here, the less of a chance they could get hurt. There were some footsteps running towards me, but there was a soft whimpering close by. Whoever it was was by the car.

\tl opened my eyes and pushed myself forward, looking for the source of the whimpering. As I approached the car, I saw a blonde female lying on the ground. Her leg was trapped under the car. I dashed forward without thinking and crouched next to her. \t"Please help me," Julie cried, her tears smudging her normally dark makeup.

\tIt was strange seeing her in such a vulnerable position. She had been terrible to me all of high school, always making comments about how I would look better with more makeup, or saying that I was the pathetic child of the alpha and didn't deserve to be a part of the bloodline. Then I had heard the rumors of her kissing Caulder in front of Harper. She was nasty, and she had no redeemable qualities. I hated her with every inch of my body. If anyone deserved to have their leg crushed by a car, it was probably her. \tExcept no one deserved such pain.

\tl placed my hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll get you out of here."

\t"Please hurry," she cried.

\tl felt the heat before I saw the flame. The car crashing must have caused the fuel line of the car to break, and now there was a fire slowly building from the car. I didn't have much time. I grabbed the car, hoping I would be able to lift it just enough to pull Julie's leg out from underneath, but the moment I touched the frame, I felt the heat sear my hands. I wouldn't be able to lift the car like this.

\t"Caulder, I need your help," I tried to link, but there was instantly a sharp pain bouncing around my skull. Something was stopping me from linking anyone, so I knew I would be on my own.

\tl looked around, trying to figure out how I would do this, when I saw how Julie was dressed. Thankfully, it was still sweater weather.

\t"Give me your cardigan," I demanded. I needed something to protect my hands from the heat if I was going to be successful.

\t"Are you serious? This cardigan was over one hundred and fifty dollars." This was only one of the reasons I hated Julie. I couldn't believe she was more worried about her clothes than her life at a moment like this.

\tl shoved my hand towards her and looked at her with a tightened jaw. "Give me that damn sweater if you want to live!"

\tJulie's eyes went wide, and she instantly started doing what I said. I helped her pull off the sweater to make it go faster. The moment it was free from her body, I returned to the car. I used the sweater as a barrier to my hands and braced myself to start lifting. Werewolves were strong, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to do this. I had never trained to lift something so heavy, and I knew I would be much stronger in my wolf form, but I wouldn't have a way to actually lift the car. I was hoping my adrenaline would kick in and help.

\t"Be ready to move when I count down from three." My eyes stung as the smoke swirled around me.

\t"Are you going to be able to lift that car?" Julie's skeptical voice wasn't helping my nerves.

\t"I don't know," I snapped. I was already doubting myself, and I didn't need her voice in my head. "But if you want to get out of here before this car explodes or you die from smoke inhalation, I'm your best shot. Now, please stop talking."

\tThe longer I was here, the more I could feel the smoke attacking my lungs, and each breath stung a little more. I needed to hurry for both of our sakes. I didn't have time to doubt myself. I shifted my position and put my hands just a few inches from the frame of the car. I wanted to wait until the last moment to touch it.

\t"Three." I could do this. "Two." I had to do this. "One."

\tl grabbed the car and started pulling up, using the strength in my thighs to push my body away from the ground. The car creaked as I lifted it up, but it wasn't moving as much as I needed it to. The heat started burning through the cardigan, but I pushed past the pain. I needed to lift the car just a little higher, but I was already putting my all into it, and I felt the veins in my body bulging from the effort.

\t"I can't get out," Julie cried, trying to pull herself free.

\tlt wasn't enough. I needed to replace the strength deep in my core to lift the car just a little higher. I could do it. I was strong. I was the alpha's daughter, and my mother was known for her powerful magic. I was the daughter of two powerful people. If I tried hard enough, I knew I would be able to lift the car and rescue Julie. It was in my blood after all.

\tl pushed a little harder, but instead of the car lifting higher, it slipped from my grip and fell back down. I fell backwards, and Julie let out a blood curdling scream as the car crushed her leg again. She didn't stop screaming this time, and I didn't know what to do. I wasn't strong enough to save her on my own, and my lungs were starting to scream from all of the smoke. I needed to get help.

\t"I'll be right back." I started to move, but Julie grabbed my arm.

\t"Don't leave me," she begged. Her voice was hoarse from the crying and the smoke, and it made her sound even more broken. I didn't want to leave her, but she would die if I didn't get her out of here as soon as possible.

\tl grabbed her hand and squeezed it tightly. "I promise I'll be back, but I need to replace some help. I need you to hold on just a moment longer. Can you do that?"

\tJulie's eyes were wide with fright. Tears poured down her face, mixing with the soot covering her cheeks, and for the first time in my life, I felt sorry for her. She loosened her grip and nodded, acknowledging what I was saying. I took the opportunity to step away from her. I turned to run to replace help, but before I stepped forward, I saw a body emerge through the smoke.

\tl saw his gold eyes first, and I knew it was Blade. In the blink of an eye, he grabbed my arms.

\t"Are you okay?" he asked, starting to pull me away.

\tl pulled back from him. "I'm fine, but someone needs help. She's trapped under the car, and I can't lift it myself." I was talking so fast it irritated my throat more, and I started coughing.

\t"What do you need me to do?" he asked instantly.

\tl led him back to the car, where Julie was audibly crying. "Her leg is stuck."

\t"Who's that?" Julie asked through her tears, but I ignored her.

\t"I'll lift the car. You pull her free the moment you can," Blade said without hesitation.

\tl didn't doubt his strength and moved to Julie as Blade moved to the car. I grabbed Julie's armpits and prepared to pull her.

\t"Ready?" Blade asked, grabbing the car already. I knew his hands had to be in pain already.

\t"Ready," I quickly said.

\tBlade crouched down and used his legs to lift the car up. "Go!" he shouted with a strained voice.

\tl quickly dragged Julie backwards. The moment she was freed, Blade dropped the car and moved to help me with her. He picked her up with ease and carried her away with me right by his side. He didn't stop moving until we were cleared from the smoke. Then he set her on the ground and looked her over quickly.

\t"We need to put a tourniquet around her leg to stop the bleeding for now," Blade said. He was already removing his belt. He quickly wrapped it around her leg and tightened it.

\tA sinking feeling filled my chest, tearing my eyes away from Blade playing doctor. When I looked up, I saw the dark tendrils waving around the air. As I stared at them, I felt the pure evil filling the air, and I knew this was only the beginning of our problems.
