The Blood Moon Twins -
Chapter 83
REMY
Blade grabbed Julie's hand and peeled it off of his chest. "I would prefer it if you didn't touch me like that, and I'm not giving out private lessons, especially to someone who doesn't take advantage of the time they have during a training session." Julie jutted out her lower lip. She pressed her body into Blade's and made her voice sound like baby talk, grating my ears. "It's so hard to concentrate during class with someone as attractive as you here to look at. Maybe if I got it out of my system, I would be able to focus better." "Got what out of your system?" Blade asked, taking a step back.
This had gone too far, and I couldn't stand idly by anymore. Julie was clearly trying to get Blade to hook up with her, and I was ready to show her a lesson. I just couldn't believe she would do something like that in front of me. Actually, I could. I heard about how she had hit on Caulder, even knowing that he was with Harper. She didn't care about a person's relationship status before she went after who she thought would be the best prize.
I had hoped she had actually changed after I had saved her life, but it was clear that her new attitude was only a fleeting thing. She was already back to her old ways, and she needed to learn that this kind of behavior was not going to be tolerated.
I took one step towards them, but Harper was faster than me. She grabbed Julie by the arm, yanking her away from Blade. Then she swung her fist, hitting Julie in the face before she even knew what happened. Julie fell to the ground, and blood started pouring out of her nose.
"What is wrong with you?" Julie screamed, holding her bloodied nose.
"I should be asking you that," Harper snapped back. "What makes you think you can just go after other girl's boyfriends?"
"What are you talking about?" the girl Julie had been talking to asked.
"Don't act dumb. You all know Blade and Remy are together. Anyone with a pair of eyes knows that." Harper stood over Julie, and she was seething. I had never seen her like this before, and it felt like something had snapped inside of her.
"Remy doesn't own him," the girl said. "Julie can flirt with whoever she wants to."
I rushed over and grabbed Harper, before she ended up hitting someone else.
"You crazy b***h! You broke my nose," Julie cried. "No wonder Caulder left you."
Harper moved towards Julie again, making Julie scream. I held her back, but that comment made me want to let go and let Harper hit Julie again.
"Do you dare speak my brother's name again," I growled. If Julie dared to say something else stupid, there wouldn't be much that would stop me from hitting her myself.
Blade stepped between us, making sure nothing else happened. "I think we should end class early." He turned to the girl Julie was with and said, "Take her to get her nose checked out. I suggest you hurry before Remy lets go of Harper." Blade didn't sound sympathetic as he spoke in the slightest.
"My dad is going to hear about this," Julie cried, as her friend escorted her off the grass.
Blade touched mine and Harper's backs and said in a hushed tone, "Come on. Let's replace somewhere the two of you can cool down."
I could hear the whispers of the crowd as we parted, but I didn't look back. I knew there would be rumors, but I didn't care. There were always rumors, no matter what happened.
We walked into the pack house, stopping once we found an empty hallway to hide in.
"I shouldn't have done that," Harper muttered, when what just happened finally sunk in.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Probably not, but I was on the verge of doing the same thing."
"I just couldn't stand back and watch her flirt with Blade like that, not after what she did with Caulder." Harper twisted her ponytail around her fingers. "It did feel pretty good though."
Blade glanced at me, and I got a feeling that he was thinking the same thing as me. Harper was struggling with Caulder being missing, and Julie's actions only triggered her. Harper wasn't a violent person, so her hitting someone was a big deal.
"Are you hurt?" Blade asked. Harper scrunched her eyebrows, so he gestured to her hand.
Harper lifted her hand, and there was a little blood on her knuckles. "My hand is throbbing a little, but other than that, it feels fine." She stretched her hand to test the mobility of it.
"I do have to say that was an incredible punch." A smile touched my lips as I thought about Julie crashing to the floor. I wasn't one to condone violence like that, but after seeing Julie go after my mate, it was oddly satisfying to see her reap the consequences of her actions.
"Do you think she learned her lesson?" Harper asked. She had quieted, and she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to make her seem as small as possible. The guilt was starting to wash over her.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think she's going to go after Blade again, though."
"Even if she does, I would never even consider doing anything with her," Blade said. "Even her touching me made me feel sick."
"Good, because you're mine," I said, wrapping my arms around him.
Harper's eyes glazed over, and I knew she was linking someone. I waited for her focus to return to us, and her lips curled down. "I have to go. My mom wants to talk to me."
I frowned, worried that Beta Rie would be too hard on Harper. Even though she shouldn't have punched Julie, Harper seemed too fragile to be scolded right now.
"Do you want me to come with?" I offered. If I was there, maybe I would be able to defend Harper and make Beta Rie realize it wasn't a big deal.
She shook her head. "I've got this."

HARPER
My feet felt like lead as I made my way to my mom's room. I knew I had crossed a line, but I also didn't feel sorry about it. After the incident with Julie and Caulder, I had clearly warned her that if she tried something again, I wouldn't hold back. It wasn't Caulder this time, but it was just as bad. Everyone knew Remy and Blade were together, even though they didn't know to what extent.
The whole pack was talking about the vampire and the alpha's daughter. Julie either didn't care, or she was trying to mess with Remy. Either way, it was completely unacceptable, especially with how Remy had saved her life. Julie should've known better.
I knocked on my parents' room, and I heard my mom call out to me. I opened the door, and I saw my mom scribbling down some notes on the table beside her bed. I shut the door behind me and leaned against it. I had never been in trouble before, so I didn't know how this would go down.
"Sit down. I'm almost done," she said.
I sat on the edge of her bed and swung my feet back and forth as I waited for her. I couldn't tear my eyes away from my feet. If she wanted me to apologize to Julie, I wasn't sure that was something I could bring myself to do. I felt guilty, but not that guilty. When she was done, she moved over and sat on the bed next to me. "Are you doing okay?"
I looked at her with my eyebrows knitted. I was expecting her to scold me. Not this. Maybe she hadn't heard about what happened yet. I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm doing fine."
"Are you sure about that? Because you have never hit anyone before," she pointed out.
I pursed my lips. "Oh, so you do know about that."
She chuckled at my surprise. "Rumors spread like wildfire in this pack, and Julie's parents are already screaming at us."
"I didn't mean to cause trouble for you." Even though I wasn't sorry I had hit Julie, I was sorry for any extra work this put my parents through.
"Just tell me one thing. Did she deserve it?" She was looking at me, and she didn't seem angry in the slightest.
I narrowed my eyes, wondering if this was some kind of trick. "You're the beta. Aren't you supposed to be against pack members fighting each other?"
She laughed even more at this. "Probably. However, you're my daughter, and I know you. You have never even pushed another kid when you were a toddler. You are the kindest and sweetest girl I know, so for you to actually hit someone, there must have been a good reason, or you are struggling more than I realized, and either way, yelling at you would do you no good."
I smiled at her response. Out of all of the reactions I was expecting, this hadn't been on the list. "Yeah. She deserved it. She was trying to get Blade to hook up with her, even after Remy saved her life. Remy deserves better than that."
She nodded quietly. "I see. It sounds like she had it coming then, but don't tell anyone I said that. I am the beta after all." She gave me a wink in response. "Now, you know you aren't supposed to go around hitting the other kids, right?" Something about her tone made her come off as joking.
"Oh, no. I would never hit another person. Unless they deserved it," I chuckled. The weight on my shoulders felt just a little lighter as I laughed.
"That's my girl." My mom wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into a side hug. "In all seriousness, your birthday is coming up. Scythe is already asking me for the details on what kind of party you want. We can't afford to go too extravagant with the vampire issue looming over our heads, but I still want to give you a nice party."
My chest tightened at the mention of my birthday. "I don't want to celebrate this year," I said flatly, losing all of the humor from before.
"But this is your special birthday." I could hear the concern in her voice, but I didn't care.
I stood up and looked at her. "Until Caulder is back, I don't want to celebrate my birthday." It felt wrong to celebrate my birthday, knowing he was still missing.
