The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday -
Chapter 360
Hans stood there, puzzled.
He had no idea what had just happened downstairs.
Freya was sitting on the couch, tucking away the ointment she had been applying.
In no time, Neil had returned from his grocery run.
As Neil walked in with two heavy bags, Freya said, "Just leave the stuff in the kitchen, I'll start cooking now."
"Are you sure you can handle the knife with your hand like that?"
Neil spoke up, "From a doctor's perspective, I'd really suggest you get someone else to chop the veggies. What if your hand slips and you cut yourself?" Freya hadn't considered this before Neil mentioned it, and suddenly realized she indeed needed someone to help her chop the vegetables.
So, naturally, her gaze fell on Neil.
When Neil saw Freya looking his way, he quickly said, "My knife skills are pretty trash compared to Preston's. I'll get him to come down and give you a hand."
Saying this, Neil quickly made his way upstairs, eager to avoid kitchen duty at all costs.
Upstairs, Neil knocked on Preston's door. After knocking for what felt like an eternity without a response, he just called out, "Preston, get down here! Ms. Dawson needs help with chopping."
After saying that, Neil didn't forget to whisper at the door, "This is your chance to shine! I've set this up for you, so hurry up and open the door!"
Hans came out of the opposite room, seeing Neil hovering at the door, and asked, "Dr. Anderson, what are you up to?"
"I'm trying to get your boss to come out."
Neil explained, "I've finally found a perfect opportunity for him to showcase his charm to Freya. Her hand is injured, and she can't hold a knife properly. Preston's knife skills are exceptional, so he's the perfect man for the job..."
Before Neil could finish, a sharp noise from downstairs interrupted him. The sound of a knife hitting the floor was unmistakably loud.
Preston almost instantly opened his door and rushed downstairs.
Neil realized what might have happened and muttered, "Oh no!"
They all hurried down.
They found Freya bending over to pick up the knife she had dropped.
As she looked up at the group rushing down, still bent over, she said, "I just didn't grip it properly..."
Silence fell. Neil was speechless, having thought she had actually hurt herself!
Preston stepped forward, picked up
the knife, and moved to the chopping board. Seeing the vegetables Freya had already washed and the recipe lying beside, he didn't utter a single word before starting to process the ingredients.
Freya had always cooked alone, never expecting to be flustered with help. Yet, to her surprise, Preston was systematic and organized, needing only a glance at the recipe to understand Freya's cooking sequence.
Neil watched the two from outside the kitchen, smiling like a proud matchmaker.
To him, they were the perfect couple, even if there was a bit of scheming involved.
Hans brought the apron in, but Freya's hands were busy, so Preston naturally took the apron and tied it around Freya for her.
"Ms. Dawson, your apron."
