The Cambion's Hoard
Chapter 61- Rose

The nurses moved around Biggs, checking monitors and administering medications. It was eerie seeing his body lying there. Normally it didn’t bother me being with him, I had tried to come in for the last two months, but this time it felt different.

I jumped when Lyandra took my hand. My mentor said they wouldn’t miss being here with me for the world. Linus had introduced the week of my hospital release. They are an unbelievably charismatic Inferi. I’d never met a non-binary counterpart of my father or I. They had spent the better part of our time together teaching me how to Essences Surf.

Not many of the carnal demons had this ability. It was more likely to be found in those of us that were half-blooded, an extra mean of seduction. It was more intense then the normal pursuance, that ability played on surface desires, base sexual instinct. We could dive deeper into someones desires, needs anything that we could use to bond them to us.

Lyandra was part cherub. They usually stayed in contact with several people they shared a deep platonic love. Lyan had felt that since Mom was human my needs would be of that nature. They weren’t wrong. I had created a family around myself with these men, Patti, my father and Sly. Unknowingly I had been looking for people that needed the same thing as me. A deep connection of belonging. My parents had given me that but they hadn’t given me the other half, so I sought it.

Yet, on the other end of that. I give to them as well. I satisfy the need they need of me. I fill in Sly’s need for a sister she never had. Linus finally has his daughter. The twins have a woman that isn’t cruel to them or hanging on their every word because they’re beautiful. Henson found his feminine divine. Patti, has people to trust with her secret.

Lyan’s gentle squeeze pulled me from my thoughts. “Let’s put that boy back in his body. I’m dying to meet him.”

I looked at Henson and Biggs, the stood on the opposite side fo the room. Patti took my other hand.

“It’s gonna be fine sweetheart. It has to be today, we can’t wait another.” Patti’s smile was soft.

I nodded my head a couple of times. “I know. I’m sacred I’ll mess up.”

A warmth blossomed in my chest. Biggs was first to voice is disapproval. Henson was second.

“Rosie. You won’t mess up, you won’t mess up because you love him. Patti and Lyandra are here to guide you.”

I looked at Thatcher and he winked but stayed quiet. His nervousness radiated off of him. It wouldn’t let on that he was scared too. Biggs was his twin, their bond was unique too.

Patti and I moved up to the bed. “I want you to touch him like you did at the pivotal point of your bond. When the to of you first acknowledged it was broken. The point when you decided to fix it.”

I thread my fingers through his, lacing his pointer finger between mine. It had been the week after the fight with his brother. It was the first step to healing our bond. Now it was stronger than ever. I’d fix the broken pieces with myself.

“Good. Now I need you to use that connection. Visual a thin veil between you and Biggs’s skin. I need you to open that veil. It will give to you because Biggs’s belongs on the other side. You’re letting him through your protective wall.”

“The lilac velvet light you envision is your essence honey. That’s what Biggs needs to get past. It won’t hurt at all.” Lyandra’s words were a wisp on the air.

I closed my eyes, focusing on the contact I had with Biggs. I imagined a tiny pinprick of light and it quickly began eating away at the lilac smoke surrounding me.

“That’s good, no need to open more.” Patti’s words stalled the ring of light.

I felt a little tug on my chest. It caused me to pull back slightly.

“That’s Biggs’s body calling to his soul. Its OK to let him go back.”

Panic flared in my gut. “No, I think he’s safe with me.”

I jumped when Henson grabbed my arm. “He’ll still be safe with you. Honey, we need him. I know you’re scared but do you think he wants to stay?”

I laughed. “No, he really wants to wake up.”

“Then honey, let him.”

Nodding, I closed my eyes and focused on the little space in my shield, opening it wider. I felt the tug again but didn’t flinch back this time. The heat that had coiled in my chest moved across my shoulder and onto my arm. His soul moved like a dragon heading to it’s den. As his tail slicked through shield opening, it brushed against the edge. A little ripple of smoke spread across my shield, a lingering for me to have a tiny piece of him.

“Let go of him dear so he can settle.”

I stumbled back and Lyandra caught me. I tapped their arm. “I’m OK.”

They hummed. “Yes and I’m a saint.”

“Now what?” Henson picked up Biggs’s hand.

“We wait. Hopefully because they gave him the reversal agent, we won’t have to wait long.” Patti turned to me. “Why don’t the three of you sit on the bed? Cuddle up. Lyandra and I will go get some breakfast.”

Lyan helped me sit. I pulled Biggs’s other hand into my lap. Now we wait.

———

I inhaled deeply and pushed a little more of myself across Biggs’s skin. The wound on his stomach sealed, leaving a tiny white circle. The scar tissue circled out like tree rings. There hadn’t been much left and I was afraid it was keeping him asleep.

Thatcher stood up and paced. “If i know him, I swear he is doing this on purpose. Wake up you fucking dick.”

“Easy. His body went through trauma. We can’t expect him to wake up right away.” Henson’s words couldn’t hide his anxiousness either.

“Henson’s right, frustratingly so.” I looked down at Biggs. His skin was shiner than it had been earlier that morning. He was even warmer to the touch.

I sat up a little.

“Rose?”

“His lip twitched, like he was trying to smirk.”

Henson laughed. “No. He wouldn’t be that much of a dick to pretend he’s asleep.”

We both watched Biggs’s face. He didn’t move.

I let out a sigh. “Damnit. I need to get some air.”

I went to stand but a hand squeezed my thigh. “No.”

Tears welled in my eyes faster than I could fight them. My hand shook as I placed it on Biggs’s chest. “Biggs?”

“Don’t leave.” He looked at me. His eyes were red but intense.

Henson brought their hands to his face, and kissed Biggs’s palm. “Oh you fucking asshole.”

“Only a little.” Biggs smiled. He moved his hand to my stomach and caressed us both with his thumbs.

Thatcher wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I looked back at him. Tears were brimming in his eyes. My family was finally back together. It could only go up from here.
