The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 147 Veda is Kidnapped
At the banquet, Penelope and Emily hit it off and even invited her to a jewelry auction in a few days. Emily, of course, was all in. They even swapped contact info right in front of everyone.
As the night wrapped up, Mabel couldn't stop gushing over Emily, holding her hand, while Michael stood by with a big grin.
Sophia, on the other hand, rolled her eyes, gritting her teeth in hatred.
And then, Sophia got some juicy gossip from the work group chat.
Emily had snagged Andrew's secretary gig. But what about Andrew? Sophia was baffled.
Wasn't it enough for Emily to stir up trouble at home? Now she had to strut her stuff at Smith Corporation too? It made Sophia feel even more insignificant.
Sophia thought about all the hard work she had put in to get where she was. And Emily, that bitch, got it all with just a few sweet words.
It felt like a heavy stone was pressing on her chest, her nails digging into her palms as if a monster inside her was dragging her into the abyss, her gaze turning icy. Suddenly, Sophia's phone rang. She was in no mood to be nice.
"What do you want? Just handle it, why are you bothering me? Afraid of her? There's no one in Smith Corporation or all of Emerald City that I, Sophia, wouldn't dare to mess with. Just do it, I'll deal with whatever comes!" With that, she hung up, gritting her teeth.
"What did you say?" Bryan had somehow appeared behind her. He had just sent Jessica away and returned, but he hadn't caught Sophia's whole conversation. Still, the threatening tone at the end piqued his interest. Now that the banquet was over, there were still guests happily chatting, yet here was Sophia, hiding in a corner, plotting something. She was definitely a piece of work.
Sophia was clearly startled by Bryan. She quickly turned around, adopting a defensive stance. "What did you hear?"
Bryan couldn't help but chuckle coldly. He put his hands in his pockets and didn't answer her.
As he walked past, he left her with a parting shot. "If you don't want people to know, don't do it."
"You..." Sophia hesitated. She didn't know when Bryan had started eavesdropping, but after thinking it over, what did it matter if he heard everything?
The Smith family, the Watson family, the Carter family... none of them thought highly of her, so what? She had already done what she needed to do, and even what she shouldn't have done.
In a cold, secluded little room.
Veda, in tattered clothes, was tied up with ropes, unable to move. She had tried to struggle hundreds of times, but her hands and feet were still tightly bound, and her eyes were covered with a black cloth. So from the beginning, Veda didn't know where she was, only able to discern through sounds.
After a few hours, she heard the door open, and someone slowly approached her, breathing heavily, each step seemingly piercing her heart.
During this time, Veda's mind went blank until the person spoke, and she suddenly snapped back to reality.
The man said, "The call said they want you dead."
Veda couldn't hold back her fear any longer and started crying and screaming.
The man wasn't having any of it. He grabbed her hair and dragged her somewhere else, showing no mercy.
Veda's hands and feet got scraped up, and her knees felt like they were bleeding.
But the guy still wasn't satisfied. He had his orders and felt invincible. "Why are you screaming? Even if you scream your lungs out, no one's coming to save you!"
Hearing this, Veda felt a wave of despair. She couldn't help but think, 'If there's some kind of regret pill, I'd tell myself to never have run away from the hospital, to never act on impulse.'
Maybe if she was still in the hospital, she could be sipping on some of Emily's soup right now.
Veda hadn't eaten in days. The guy had only given her a few crackers and sips of water to keep her alive.
She used to be a rich girl! Now she had to endure this humiliation!
Thinking about it made Veda feel even more miserable.
She didn't dare cry out loud, so she sobbed quietly until she had no strength left.
Veda stopped moving.
The guy thought she had fainted again and laughed mockingly. "In this world, what's the use of money? Aren't you still being manipulated and toyed with? In the end, it's all about power. Ms. Smith, don't blame me for being ruthless. If you paid me more than they did, I'd work for you too, right?"
Money? Hearing that word made Veda grit her teeth.
What money did she have now? Michael had cut off all her credit cards.
After a while, the guy seemed to go make a phone call.
This was the first time Veda heard him contact the outside world; he usually did it behind her back.
This time he didn't, probably thinking she was out cold.
So, Veda decided to keep pretending to be unconscious, carefully listening to the call.
Sure enough, it was about her.
The next part made Veda's blood run cold.
The guy said, "What did you say? You want to have some fun, too? Sure, come over tonight and get a feel of Ms. Smith's skin! She might even be a virgin, lucky you!"
These monsters! They were planning to rape and then kill her!
Fear gripped Veda, her face turning even paler, her mind filled with terrifying images!
No! Absolutely not! She had to replace a way to escape, or she'd be devoured alive, her reputation destroyed!
At the Smith Mansion, Mason woke up with a start.
He hadn't been sleeping well lately, and his private doctor was on leave.
Helpless, Benjamin called a doctor from a nearby private hospital for a house call.
This time, it was Daniel, who had been waiting outside for a while, and now he rang the doorbell.
"Come in." Mason wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.
As he spoke, he watched Daniel walk in with a medical kit. "It's Daniel, I didn't expect you to have such a connection with my family, meeting again."
Mason didn't know much about Daniel's feelings for Emily. But as someone with experience, he could see a bit.
