The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 151 Top Speed

With a loud bang, the door slammed shut again.

Veda took a deep breath and waited for a few minutes. When everything was quiet, she cautiously picked up the phone and asked, "Are you still there?"

"Yeah, Veda, you did great. There's definitely a McDonald's nearby; I saw it on the map. Soon, we'll split up with the police one team to catch the guy, and the other to rescue you. Just hang tight and stay calm, okay? Don't do anything that'll make him suspicious." Emily's voice on the other end was steady and reassuring.

Veda never expected this. Emily was actually planning to save her, despite everything Veda had said and done to her, and what Scarlett had done too.

Thinking about all this, Veda, already on edge, felt even more overwhelmed.

Emily said, "Veda, what's wrong? Don't cry. I know you've been through a lot. Michael and I are almost there. Don't worry, Daniel's with us too, we..."

Before Emily could finish, Veda broke down. "Emily, I know I was wrong. I'll never go against you again, and I won't run off anymore. The outside world is too scary. I don't even know how I got into this mess."

Veda apologizing to her? This was the first time since Emily married into the Smith family that she had heard Veda speak to her so sincerely. It was unexpected and left Emily momentarily speechless. She glanced over at Michael. Michael gave her a supportive smile and nodded, silently acknowledging her efforts and thanking her.

But now wasn't the time for sentimentality. Daniel saw they were close to their destination. He confirmed the location with Emily and Michael and started coordinating with the police.

Meanwhile, the kidnapper sensed something was off. On his way back, he had told his buddies he was bringing Veda some instant noodles and McDonald's to keep her energy up so they could have some fun.

But his buddies, not being there, found Veda's sudden request odd. "McDonald's? Veda asked for McDonald's?"

"Yeah, and there's one nearby!" The kidnapper walked back with the bag, forgetting he was a kidnapper who could be caught any moment, lured by the promise of food and beauty.

He continued, "This girl is something else. She not only asked for McDonald's but also offered to treat me! Isn't that funny? Her money is my money anyway, but whatever. After this meal, it's over! I'm telling you, hurry up, or you'll miss out!" Just as he was about to laugh, he heard a noise on the other end of the phone. "Wait! Something's off!"

"What's wrong? What's off?" The kidnapper didn't get it. Everything seemed fine-good food, good company! He'd kidnapped people plenty of times and never been scared. In this remote place, not even the police could replace them!

"Do you have Veda's phone with you? And did you blindfold her properly?" The more the person on the other end talked, the more agitated they got, making the kidnapper uneasy. "Did she tell you she wanted McDonald's? How did she know there was one nearby? Sure, McDonald's is everywhere, but we hid in plain sight, kidnapping in the city so the cops wouldn't suspect a thing!"

"Veda should think she's in some remote village, not near a McDonald's. And she guessed right? Why didn't she say KFC?"

The kidnapper started to panic. It made sense! Veda had never asked for food before, and now she suddenly mentioned McDonald's and got it right? Was she stalling for time, waiting for rescue? Realizing this, the kidnapper forgot all about the food and beauty. He sprinted back to where Veda was held.

Meanwhile, Emily asked, "How much longer?"

Daniel replied, "The police said about five minutes. They'll sneak in quietly, and we should stay hidden too."

Emily asked, "Did they say if we should go up?"

Daniel replied, "No, we have nothing on us, but the kidnapper might have a weapon. It would be unsafe; we might not rescue her and could get hurt ourselves."

After a fast twenty-minute drive, Emily and the others arrived near where Veda was held. Daniel had just finished contacting the police, and Emily quickly asked about the situation.

Meanwhile, Michael was in the back seat, fuming. The kidnapping had made him lose all rationality.

In broad daylight, in Emerald City, someone dared to kidnap his sister! Was the Smith family's reputation built over the years just for people to humiliate?

Michael said, "Since we're here to rescue, every second counts. Why aren't we going up? Daniel, Veda isn't your sister, so you're not in a hurry, but I must save her! Every minute we delay, she's in more danger!" With that, Michael bolted out of the car. Emily and Daniel tried to stop him, but it was too late.

This time, Michael was right.

The kidnapper had already figured out Veda's trick. He stormed into the house, grabbed Veda, and slapped her several times. "You bitch, how dare you deceive me! McDonald's? You didn't really want to eat!" He started groping Veda with his big hands.

Veda screamed, "Let go of me! Help, help!"

The kidnapper soon found the phone on Veda and saw the location-sharing page, with another person's icon flashing near Veda's.

Furious, the kidnapper said, "So you were secretly informing them! I was going to let you eat before you die, but now there's no need! Today, either you die or I die, so I'll send you to die first!"

With that, the kidnapper turned off Veda's phone, then pulled out a shiny knife from his pocket and aimed it at Veda!
