The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 154 Return to Smith Corporation

The phone clicked off, and Emily couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. With Andrew's wedding coming up, Michael was left in a bind. Meanwhile, Veda and Mason in the Smith Mansion also needed looking after. What was she supposed to do? "Emily." Just as she was feeling lost, Veda's voice came from behind her.

She turned to see Veda in her pajamas, looking right at her.

It had been five days since Veda came back home. In that time, she saw how Emily took care of her with such attention, providing the best food and clothes, even better than her own mom used to. Veda couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. Thinking back, she and Scarlett had ganged up. Even if Veda didn't always join in, she had silently approved of Scarlett's nasty actions towards Emily.

Now, guilt washed over her like a tidal wave, impossible to ignore. "Is Michael really busy over there? I haven't been in touch with the outside world much, but I've heard some things about Smith Corporation." "Michael wronged you, and everyone in the Smith family knows it. Even if you put on a brave face and act like everything's fine for our sake, I know you're not happy inside."

Women got each other. Veda had only seen a few things but could already tell Emily's inner turmoil. Emily felt a deep sadness, her lips quivering, wanting to speak but holding back.

Veda went on, "Emily, I'm okay, and Grandpa's okay too. Benjamin's looking after him. Don't worry, I won't run away this time. I've thought it through. I'm twenty-three now, and living aimlessly isn't a solution." "Grandpa's right. Once we catch the real culprit and the Smith family gets through this crisis, I should go abroad, change my environment, and start fresh."

Saying this, Veda walked over to Emily. In five days, the one who needed comforting had become the comforter. She continued, "You should start fresh too. Emily, I support you. After this, you should divorce Michael." Emily, always one to take action, had been troubled at home in the morning but showed up at Smith Corporation in the afternoon to fill in for Andrew.

Seeing he wasn't needed, Andrew quickly gave Michael a look and left to keep investigating online public opinion.

Emily thought Andrew was heading home to prep for the wedding and had even gotten him a $20,000 gift.

Now, it was just her and Michael in the office. Michael asked why she suddenly showed up, and Emily explained everything, emphasizing that even Veda could see they weren't happy together and that they should divorce sooner rather than later.

"Did Veda really say that?" Michael asked.

Michael was left speechless. Was Veda really his sister? He risked everything, only to save a traitor. And now she was encouraging Emily to divorce him?

Emily said, "It doesn't matter what she said. What matters is how's the investigation of the real culprit going. And, I left my family affairs to help out here. You should tell me what I need to do as a secretary. I can't just sit here chatting with you and wasting time, right?"

With that, Emily was about to get up. She glanced around Michael's spotless office, which had clearly been cleaned by someone.

Just a moment ago, when she got off the elevator, Emily noticed a few women in work uniforms giving her dirty looks before heading into the secretary's office. This meant that besides Andrew, Michael had other secretaries. Even though Andrew was his closest secretary and handled tasks that couldn't be replaced by those women, Emily couldn't understand why Michael needed so many secretaries.

Michael shot back, "Emily, who's the CEO here, you or me? I asked you to sit down and chat with me. That's part of the job too!"

Emily snorted coldly. She looked at Michael, her eyes filled with contempt for a moment. It couldn't be helped-they always seemed to misunderstand each other.

"Why don't you just tell me you need a chat buddy! Wait, I'll replace one for you." Emily said, ignoring Michael's attempts to stop her, and walked straight out of the CEO's office towards the secretary's office.

At that moment, the women in the secretary's office were eavesdropping at the door. Although the CEO's office was well soundproofed, they could somewhat tell that the CEO and the new female secretary were not getting along, already arguing within a few minutes. Now this clueless female secretary was definitely sent by Michael to work.

The women in the secretary's office handled various tasks under Michael. Since Smith Corporation was a large company, Andrew, as a special assistant, had to follow Michael in and out every day. So Michael's work was divided among these female secretaries.

They were all selected through rigorous interviews. Usually, they couldn't even see Michael, let alone know if he was married or had kids. It was only recently, with the news causing a stir, that they learned about Michael's complicated love life. But there was no sign of Emily in the videos. So these female secretaries didn't know Emily was Michael's wife.

When they met, they naturally didn't show any good feelings, thinking Emily was an inexperienced intern who had angered the CEO.

"You..." One of the women, heavily made-up and seemingly more authoritative, stepped forward and blocked Emily's way, asking rudely, "What are you doing here, rookie?"

The question sounded ridiculous. But Emily smiled and answered directly, "Why, can't I be here?"

The response was uncomfortable, and the woman asked again, "You're the new intern secretary, right? This is the secretary's office, but you need to knock before entering. Also, space is tight here, and there's no place for you to sit. If you don't believe me, you can..."

Emily had been through worse. She saw through the woman's petty tricks and immediately retorted, "Don't worry about the workspace. I'll ask Mr. Anderson. I'm here to tell you that Mr. Smith needs a chat buddy. Who's interested?"
