The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 158 Moving Back to Emerald Lake Manor
Michael didn't beat around the bush and brought up Smith Corporation. Evelyn, of course, had nothing more to add.
After all, Smith Corporation was one of the top dogs in Emerald City. If they went under, Brown Corporation might as well throw in the towel on business battles!
Seeing Michael being so cutthroat, Sophia was fuming. She never thought all her hard work would blow up in her face like this.
In a flash, anger took over. "Michael, are you really gonna ditch me? Is it because of what people are saying, or is it that bitch Emily?"
"Come on, be straight with me. Have you fallen for her? What about me? Brown Corporation has been in bed with you for years, and I've loved you with everything I've got. Now you wanna brush me off with a few words?" Sophia stood up, yanking the glucose drip out and letting it crash to the floor.
But even then, Michael could see she was full of energy, her face glowing, even crying with such intensity.
He seriously doubted if she was the one who tried to off herself. Or, like Emily said, was this all a big act by her and her mom?
Seeing he wasn't buying it, she got desperate and showed her true colors. "No way! Michael, you can't just dump me like this. I need an explanation!"
An explanation? Michael hated it when people demanded explanations from him.
If everyone came to him for answers and fairness, then who should he, who grew up without parental love and built Smith Corporation on his own, ask for an explanation?
Michael replied, "If Brown Corporation doesn't want to work with Smith Corporation, tell Hayden to come see me and terminate the contract."
"And, Sophia, for the sake of our past, whether you're sick or suicidal, I'll have the hospital take care of you. But if you're just trying to trick me into coming here, it's pointless. You know I hate being deceived."
With that, Michael frowned slightly, nodded to Evelyn, and walked out of the ward.
Sophia would always remember the look he gave her at the end. Michael clearly despised her and had shifted his love to that bitch Emily!
But Evelyn, clueless about the situation, kept circling around Sophia, scolding her non-stop.
One moment saying she was impulsive, and that following her had cost her dignity. The next moment saying that Michael was just one guy, and without him as president, there were still plenty of rich folks in Emerald City. Betting everything on him might drag Brown Corporation down with him!
But Sophia wasn't hearing any of it. She only wanted Michael. In other words, she only wanted to compete with Emily for Michael.
Later that evening, Michael returned to Emerald Lake Manor. Sure enough, Emily was there, packing her clothes and stuff. Looked like she had moved everything from her rental apartment back.
From tonight, Emily would be living at Emerald Lake Manor again. She was the mistress here once more.
Seeing this, Michael felt a sudden surge of joy and smiled. "What? Moved back again?"
Seeing Michael's annoying face, Emily couldn't be bothered to respond and kept packing, throwing a retort over her shoulder. "What? Done visiting the patient?"
Michael knew she was mocking him and Sophia, and he couldn't help but frown. "Emily, are you done?"
"Not even close!" Emily shot back, stuffing clothes into the closet. She turned around, eyebrow raised, looking fierce in her silk nightgown.
Even though she was clearly pissed, Michael found he couldn't bring himself to hate her.
Emily continued, "Michael, money doesn't grow on trees. Even with your support, I still have to live my life. Yeah, I ditched the rental and moved back. I'm not just here to play house; I'm here to save some cash."
"Relax, once the public opinion storm blows over, I'll move out of Emerald Lake Manor. As long as you don't stir up any trouble, I won't come back on a whim."
Michael felt like her words were a punch to the gut, but oddly, he didn't feel angry. Emily's harsh words were true. She moved back to save money, not because of him.
He found himself feeling regretful but couldn't control his thoughts. "Emily, do you have any conscience?"
Emily shot back, "Michael, you are the one without any conscience!"
All night, they were at each other's throats, neither willing to back down.
By the time Emily finished packing, it was the middle of the night. Just as she was about to hit the sack, Michael showed up with a pillow and blanket, using the same old excuse.
"The Smith family is big and influential. What if a reporter sneaks in and takes photos? What if a careless servant sees we're not getting along and spills the beans? Compared to that, Emily, staying by my side is the best solution."
The next morning, Emily woke up in Michael's arms again. From the initial shock to now being used to it, she was surprised to replace she no longer had the urge to push him away.
Maybe it was because Michael was keeping his distance from Sophia. Maybe it was because they had to unite for the future of Smith Corporation. Or maybe... it was because she had never really let go of Michael. She still loved him and had been loving him for the past three years.
Thinking of this, Emily's eyelids fluttered as she tried to push those thoughts away.
Just then, the phone rang. Emily tiptoed out of the bedroom to answer it.
After a quick three-minute call, she returned with a troubled look on her face.
By then, Michael was already awake. Seeing the empty spot beside him, he felt a moment of insecurity.
But when Emily walked back in, he quickly put on a noble demeanor, covering himself with the blanket and revealing only his upper body. "What are you sneaking around for so early in the morning?"
Just as Michael was about to start another round of their usual bickering, he heard her say, somewhat awkwardly, "Do you... have any plans today? Can you come out with me?"
