The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 204 Narrow Encounter
Mason said, "Alright, Veda, you head out first. I need to talk to Benjamin."
Mason always saw Veda as a kid and didn't want her tangled up in family drama. His main goal was to replace her a good match and see her happily married off from the Smith family. They said the higher you climbed, the harder you fell.
Even though folks on the outside seemed eager, human nature being what it was, who wouldn't want to see the Smith family mess up?
Mason couldn't let that happen, so he had to make sure Veda didn't get weighed down by family issues. She needed to always feel proud of being a wealthy young lady.
But Veda didn't get it yet. She always thought Mason was indulging Benjamin.
As Michael's sister, she felt she had to stand up for Emily. "Grandpa, what's the big deal if I stay? You always send me away before I finish talking..."
"I'm asking you to go check on Michael at the hospital. Aren't you worried about him after he got hurt so bad?" Mason cut her off before she could finish.
After thinking it over, Veda reluctantly left the room.
But before she left, she couldn't help but glance at Benjamin.
She had always respected him, but what he did today was really thoughtless.
As soon as Veda left, Benjamin apologized to Mason. "Mr. Mason Smith, I know I didn't think this through, but I couldn't just watch Mr. Michael Smith and Mrs. Emily Smith break up, and the Smith family fall apart. You and I both know that Sophia is no good."
He hesitated, looking troubled. Mason understood his loyalty and difficulties.
Benjamin would certainly face criticism like Veda's for what he did.
He had anticipated this. If Mason didn't understand, he might even face the risk of leaving the Smith family.
But he was willing to take that risk for the sake of the Smith family.
With such a loyal person in front of him, how could Mason blame him?
"Alright, I know you mean well, but this can't happen again. Emily has her own dignity. We can't just think about the future of the Smith family and not consider her future. She's taken care of Michael for years and contributed a lot to the Smith family. She... can't be a sacrifice for the Smith family anymore."
With that, Mason sighed deeply.
Then he waved at Benjamin, signaling him to leave, and sat alone in the rocking chair, silent.
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
"Are you the patient's family?"
"I am."
"The patient is fine now. Fortunately, the head injury wasn't deep, and we've done a simple bandage. But he needs to be hospitalized for further observation. Please go and complete the admission procedures." "Okay, doctor."
"By the way, you need to stay with the patient and observe him. He can't be left alone now, understand?" "Understood."
After talking to the doctor, Emily hurried to complete the admission procedures.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, Michael was okay and she didn't hit him too hard with the golf club.
Thinking about what had just happened in the bedroom, Emily couldn't help but blush. She shook her head, finished the procedures, and returned to the ward.
By then, Michael had been brought back to the ward. He looked super pale, his lips were white, and he had lost all his energy. Even the beads of sweat on his forehead were still there. Emily bit her lip, feeling a bit embarrassed.
She grabbed a white towel to wipe Michael's forehead and then used a cotton swab to moisten his lips. After all that, he finally looked a bit less exhausted.
But Emily still felt something was missing. She was about to go out to buy some food so that Michael could eat when he woke up. Just as she was about to leave, she ran into Sophia. Emily didn't expect Sophia to get the news so quickly.
Well, she stuck to Michael every day, sending him countless flirty messages. If Michael didn't reply within an hour, she would immediately contact the Smith Corporation staff. With word spreading, the news of Michael being hospitalized reached her ears.
Seeing Emily, Sophia frowned. "Where are you going?"
Now that she was "pregnant" and had a status, she naturally felt more superior in front of Emily.
"I'm going to buy some food," Emily replied coldly, not even looking at Sophia.
Seeing her self-righteous attitude, Sophia grew more resentful and angry. She sneered, blocking the door without any intention of letting Emily pass.
Sophia said, "Emily, what are you so proud of all day long? You're about to be kicked out of the Smith family, and you still think you're the high and mighty Mrs. Smith?"
"Tell me, what happened between you and Michael? Why is Michael injured and hospitalized? How could you be so heartless? Michael was even thinking of giving you the Emerald Lake Manor house. Do you deserve it?" Emerald Lake Manor?
Didn't Michael say he wouldn't give it to her?
Not only did he change his mind, but he also told Sophia.
Well, they were about to become a family, so property changes had to be communicated to Sophia.
As for her, she was already an outsider, still acting high and mighty in front of Sophia.
Sophia was right. She shouldn't consider herself "Mrs. Smith" anymore, nor should she revolve around Michael. They could never go back to the past, and she had to get used to it.
Taking a deep breath, Emily didn't want to argue with Sophia.
So she softly responded, "Michael and I are getting a divorce. Emerald Lake Manor is our marital home and is considered joint property. I deserve half of it."
"And, the divorce is between Michael and me. Your marrying into the Smith family is a future matter. When you truly become Michael's wife, then you can criticize me." With that, Emily tried to pass by Sophia.
Unexpectedly, Sophia grabbed her with force and pushed her hard.
Sophia, finally having the chance to confront Emily and now having the status to do so, couldn't let this opportunity slip. She turned vicious, venting all her anger on Emily.
"I don't have the right to criticize you? Emily, look at your flat belly. After all these years, you still couldn't get pregnant with Michael's child. How useless are you? Do you think I need to wait until I become Michael's wife to teach you a lesson?" With that, Sophia proudly placed her hand on her belly, raised her chin, and said loudly, "Look closely. I'm carrying the Smith family's child, Michael's biological son. Just for this, my status is higher than yours, and I can teach you a lesson anytime, anywhere!"
