The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 219 Another Storm Arises

When the nurse heard this, she shot another glance at Emily.

Emily's heart started racing. She was terrified her long-kept secret would come out, causing a whole new mess.

She quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact, and mumbled, "It's just a stomach thing, probably something I got from my parents or something."

The nurse wasn't buying it. "That doesn't sound right," she said firmly.

She'd been at the hospital for over ten years. She wasn't a doctor, but she'd seen her fair share of patients with all sorts of minor issues.

So, hearing Emily's explanation, the nurse suggested, "Mrs. Smith, instead of wasting time, you should go downstairs for a proper check-up. Don't delay treatment by trying random remedies. If the diagnosis is wrong, you'll just be scaring yourself."

Then, something seemed to click for the nurse.

She gave Emily a once-over with her sharp eyes and then chuckled, "With my ten-plus years of experience, I think it looks more like she is pregnant! People with stomach issues don't have rosy cheeks and pink lips like you. You look like a blessed woman."

The nurse laughed to herself after that.

She had no clue about the rocky relationship between Emily and Michael.

All she knew was what she saw online-articles about the two of them attending events together, looking all lovey-dovey.

Everyone thought the Smith family president adored his wife, and they envied Emily, who, despite being an illegitimate child, married into a good family.

"Mr. Smith, you're really lucky. Now that you're about to be discharged, you should take Mrs. Smith for a check-up. After all these years on the job, my gut feeling is always spot on!" With that, the nurse dusted off her clothes and walked out with the medicine tray.

The room got tense again.

Michael looked at Emily, who was in shock. She quickly snapped out of it and said to Michael, "They say nurses in big hospitals don't talk nonsense. I don't think so. Their gossiping and lying skills are top-notch." Emily forced a smile to lighten the mood.

But to Michael, that smile looked more like a grimace, and he couldn't stand it.

"Alright, I'm leaving now. Benjamin will come to pick you up later. If there are any issues with the handover at Smith Corporation... call me anytime." With that, Emily grabbed her bag and left the room without looking back.

As she walked away, Michael felt a wave of sadness. He swallowed hard, replaying the nurse's words in his head. "Mrs. Smith doesn't seem to have a stomach problem; it looks more like she's pregnant... After all these years on the job, my gut feeling is always spot on!"

The nurse's confident words echoed in Michael's mind like a movie scene.

He started thinking about Emily eating ceviche, her reaction to Mexican food, her pushing him away during intimate moments, and her nausea earlier...

All these moments flashed through Michael's mind.

Right then, he couldn't help but seriously wonder if Emily was pregnant.

Andrew was knee-deep in tracking a suspicious IP near the Brown Villa, trying to link it to the one spreading rumors and catch the mastermind, when he got a call about trouble at the company.

Just as he was getting into the nitty-gritty of his work, chaos broke out at Smith Corporation.

Andrew quickly called the hospital.

Luckily, Michael had already been discharged and was on his way to Smith Corporation.

Michael was taken aback, "Are you saying... Alice's dad?"

Andrew replied, "Yes, Mr. Smith. If I remember right, your friend Alice's maiden name is Ward. Even though her family has been living abroad, her dad, Roger Ward, still holds ten percent of Smith Corporation's shares." Hearing this, Michael's memory kicked in.

How could he forget?

He and Alice were tight, so naturally, he knew her dad, Roger.

Plus, Roger and his dad were close, kind of like his relationship with Bryan's dad, Richard. But Richard never did business with Smith Corporation since their companies were in different fields.

So, only Roger had business ties with Smith Corporation, even involving stock division because of their interests.

Over the years, Roger controlled ten percent of Smith Corporation's shares, making him a big deal.

But since Michael took over, Roger had never shown up at a shareholders' meeting.

Even when he came back to the country occasionally, he only hung out with the Watson family, and Michael rarely joined in.

Unless, like last time, they had to meet at the Watson Mansion, Roger would use Alice as an excuse to see Michael. To Michael, it felt like a staged act.

If it weren't for Alice, who was now with Bryan, Michael wouldn't want any dealings with Roger.

But what Michael never saw coming was that Roger, who hadn't shown up for years, would drop a bombshell right after his discharge.

Michael ordered, "Have someone invite him to the office to sit. I'll be there soon. No matter how many shareholders cause trouble, keep them calm and don't let Roger say anything weird."

After hanging up, Michael's eyes darkened, and his face grew even more grim.

He knew another unique challenge had popped up.

With trouble brewing at Smith Corporation, Michael had to put his doubts aside and delay replaceing Emily. Meanwhile, Andrew, who had finally tracked down the area near the Brown Villa, had to rush back to Smith Corporation. As the chaos at Smith Corporation spread, Bryan and Alice quickly got wind of it.

"What?" Alice shot up upon hearing the news, her face tense and her brows furrowed. "Are you saying Dad wants to seize Smith Corporation's shares?"

On the other end of the line was Alice's sister, Luna Saunders.

The two sisters grew up abroad, so they were used to using their foreign names.

Hearing Alice's shock, Luna immediately expressed her disdain. "Alice, can you stop being so dramatic? And what do you mean by seize? Taking back is more accurate. After all, Smith Corporation owes us, doesn't it?" "You..." Luna's words left Alice momentarily speechless.

After all, it was an old grudge, and she couldn't explain it clearly. Luna didn't know the details either.

She turned to look at the confused Bryan and the anxious Emily beside her.
