The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 51 The Mistress

Sophia nodded with a sarcastic grin. "Sure, I'll buy it for you. Wouldn't want you to leave empty-handed and embarrassed."

Emily shot a glance at Abigail, and they shared a knowing look, a hint of mischief in their eyes. Emily then turned to Sophia with a smile. "Alright, since you're feeling generous today, I won't hold back."

Sophia smirked. "No need to be shy. Pick whatever you want. As a housewife, you probably don't have much cash lying around. Has Michael even given you any money?"

Emily paused while browsing the jewelry, then replied, "Yeah, for housewives like us, there are only two reasons for being broke. Either the husband is useless and can't make money, or he's too good at making money and spends it all on his mistress. Which one do you think I am?"

Sophia caught the jab in Emily's words. Her smile faltered, but she kept it up. "Emily, no need to get snarky. Just a friendly reminder. Has Michael really not given you any money?" She pulled out a VIP card and waved it. Emily instantly recognized it as one of Michael's cards.

Emily felt a sting but kept her cool. "Alright, since you're offering, I'll pick something."

She pointed to a counter. "Wrap up everything on this counter for me." Then she pointed at Sophia. "This lady will pay."

The jewelry on that counter was worth tens of thousands of dollars. The salesperson's eyes widened. "Really? Ma'am, are you sure you want all of these?"

Sophia's face turned pale. "No way."

Emily looked at her. "What? Didn't you say you'd buy them for me? Are you backing out now?"

Sophia had planned to humiliate Emily, not actually spend money on her. Seeing Emily was serious, she tried to put the card back, but Emily quickly snatched it away.

Abigail chimed in, "You just called Emily broke, and now you won't even buy her these jewels? What? Is there no money on that card? Who's the broke one now?"

The salespeople exchanged confused glances, unsure of what kind of drama they were witnessing.

Emily examined the card, recognizing Michael's signature on the back. Sophia's face turned even paler. "This is my card. I can choose to buy for you or not. Now I've changed my mind. Give me back the card." Emily sneered, flipping the card over. "Sophia, is this card really yours? Look closely, the name on the back is my husband Michael's. You're using my husband's card to humiliate me. Do you think that's appropriate?" Sophia's expression soured, and the salespeople finally caught on. It was a showdown between the mistress and the wife. They started whispering among themselves.

They thought, 'The mistress is so bold, flaunting herself in front of the wife. What a shameless woman! Who knows what dirty tricks she pulls behind the scenes.'

Surrounded by gossiping onlookers, Sophia turned pale and glared at Emily. "Don't push your luck."

Emily smiled. "How am I pushing my luck?"

Abigail suddenly tugged at Emily's sleeve and gave her a look. Emily followed her gaze and saw Michael walking in.

Sophia immediately rushed over. "Michael, look at Emily! I was just trying to give her a gift, and now she's trying to extort tens of thousands of dollars from me. Can you believe this?"

Michael glanced at Emily, who stayed silent and placed the card on the counter. "Check out," she said.

Michael cut in, "Don't check out."

The salesperson, recognizing Michael, froze, unsure of what to do.

Michael looked at Emily with a frown. "Didn't I tell you to stay home and rest? Why are you out and about again?"

He then glanced at Abigail, who turned her head away, probably thinking she had dragged Emily out for some fun.

Everyone watching thought, 'Looks like the wife isn't as favored as the mistress. The benefactor is here to scold the wife, so the mistress has a pretty good shot.'

Sophia's face darkened even more after she heard Michael's words. She tugged at his sleeve. "Michael, let's go."

Sophia quickly grabbed the VIP card from the counter and pulled Michael out. Emily stayed calm, lowering her head to continue picking out jewelry. Abigail leaned over. "Michael really pisses me off." Emily smiled. "Really? Then why didn't you confront him just now?"

Abigail gave an awkward smile. "I didn't have time. If he comes back, you'll see me confront him."

Emily knew Abigail was joking and didn't call her out. "Forget it. Some people choose to play dumb and pretend to sleep; you can't wake them up."

Abigail nodded. "True. You can never wake someone pretending to sleep. By the way, you made things tough for Sophia today, and Michael saw it. Do you think he'll give you trouble?"

Emily wasn't sure if Michael would trouble her, but she knew he was definitely angry. She thought, no matter what she and Michael had shared, it couldn't compare to the humiliation Sophia had faced today. Emily shook her head with a bitter smile. "Forget it. He can do whatever he wants. Besides, it's not like he doesn't know I hate Sophia."

You could never wake someone pretending to sleep, and you could never force someone who didn't love you to love you.

The two of them shopped a bit more and then headed home. When they got back in the evening, Emily thought Michael hadn't returned, but as soon as she walked in, the living room lights suddenly flicked on, startling her. Michael was sitting on the living room sofa, seemingly waiting for her. She had no intention of acknowledging him and headed straight upstairs. But Michael suddenly called out, "Emily, stop." Emily turned around. "What is it?"

Michael said, "Aren't you going to give me an explanation for today?"

Emily found it amusing and walked over. "What explanation do you want? Why I stood up to your mistress? Michael, is this the first day you know Sophia and I don't get along? Isn't it a bit late to ask now?" Emily found the words oddly familiar. 'Oh, right. Michael had said something similar to me before,' she thought.
