Chapter 55 Do You Love Me?

Emily pointed at the gift boxes on the front desk and said, "They're all here."

Veda's face softened a bit. "Good, you know what's good for you. What's the gift?"

"Why don't you open it and see for yourself?" Emily wondered why Veda always seemed so resentful.

Veda snorted and turned to check out the gifts. She was pleased when she saw the large diamond on the necklace Emily had bought. Emily thought to herself, 'After all, it is bought with your brother's money, not mine.'

Veda finally smiled and tentatively asked, "By the way, Daniel is coming over later. I heard you two are close."

Emily noticed a fleeting shyness in Veda's eyes when she mentioned Daniel. Emily then realized that Veda liked Daniel.

But seeing Veda's spoiled demeanor, Emily thought she wasn't a good match for Daniel, though she didn't say anything.

She simply replied to Veda, "Yeah, I know Daniel."

Then Veda suddenly asked her, "Do you know if he likes anyone?"

Emily shook her head. "You should ask him yourself. Besides, what does it matter to you if Daniel likes someone? Are you interested in him?"

Emily intended to tease Veda a bit. Unexpectedly, Veda's face changed dramatically, and she shouted at Emily, "Does Daniel like you?"

Emily's face immediately darkened. "Veda, what nonsense are you talking about?"

Veda took a step forward, her eyes filled with hatred. "I knew it! Daniel likes you. You're already married to Michael, and you're still flirting around. Shameless, Emily."

Emily was so angry at Veda's words that she wanted to slap her, but she held back her temper and said, "Veda, stop being unreasonable. Where did you hear that? You can say whatever you want about me, but don't involve Daniel in this. Aren't you afraid he'll hear you?"

Veda, now completely irrational, ignored Emily's explanation. "Emily, how can you be so shameless? You're seducing Daniel. What do you take Michael for?"

Emily's face turned cold. "Who told you this?"

Veda continued, "Do I need anyone to tell me? I saw the photos of you and Daniel hugging at the hospital. You're fickle and shameless, unworthy of being my sister-in-law."

Seeing Veda like this, Emily suddenly found it a bit funny. She didn't know whether to be angry for Michael or for herself.

But Emily caught the key point about the photos. She wondered why Veda would suddenly say such things. Besides, Veda shouldn't have known about her relationship with Daniel before.

If she guessed correctly, it must be Sophia. She knew that the photos of her and Daniel hugging at the hospital were taken by Sophia.

It seemed that Sophia was behind this, instigating Veda.

Just then, she saw Sophia walking over, which confirmed her suspicion. Emily wanted to confront her, but she saw Sophia was approaching them.

As soon as Emily moved, Veda grabbed her, "If you don't attend my birthday party, you can leave."

Emily said, "I'm not leaving." She thought, 'I hadn't dealt with Sophia yet, so how could I leave?'

Sophia, in a red off-shoulder dress with her long hair flowing behind her, looked both charming and sexy.

"Emily, got a problem with Veda? As her sister-in-law, you're not even gonna show up at her birthday party?" Sophia said with a smile.

Emily shot her a cold look. She hadn't even married into the family yet, and she was already sucking up to Veda. She was really setting herself up for the future. Hearing Sophia's words, Veda got even more furious. "Feeling guilty? Afraid of seeing Daniel later?"

Emily looked at Veda like she was an idiot. "Do you have to spout nonsense here?"

Hell-bent, Veda dragged Emily into a private room, determined to embarrass her.

Forced into the room, Emily shook off Veda. "What exactly do you want? It's your birthday today. I'm respecting you and I don't want to argue with you."

Veda said, "I just want to wait for Daniel to come and ask him if he likes you."

Emily cursed Veda under her breath but saw Sophia being called away by friends as soon as she entered the room. Unable to tolerate Veda's nonsense any longer, Emily came up with a plan. Suppressing her anger, Emily said, "Veda, tell me, did Sophia tell you that I know Daniel? Did she also show you the photos of me and Daniel hugging?"

Veda coldly replied, "So what if she did?"

"Did she also tell you that Daniel likes me?" Emily asked, trying to guide her.

Veda turned her head and snorted. "That's none of your business. Whether Daniel likes you or not, I'll ask him later. But if you dare have any improper thoughts about Daniel, I tell you, my brother won't let you off, and neither will I." Originally, Daniel was supposed to come today, but Sophia had told Veda that if she mentioned Emily would be here, Daniel would definitely come. And it turned out to be true.

Holding back her anger, Emily said, "Veda, are you stupid? Do you believe whatever she tells you? Don't you know what Sophia thinks of Michael? Now she's telling you that Daniel likes me to sow discord between Michael and me. If our relationship worsens, Michael will naturally be unhappy. This will only speed up our divorce, and then she can take my place. Veda, don't let her use you."

Veda still looked unconvinced. Emily, frustrated, decided to go all out. She pretended to be emotional, "Veda, I'll be honest with you. I've always liked Michael. Veda looked at her with confusion. "So you don't like Daniel?"

Emily firmly said, "I swear, the only person I love is Michael."

"Really? You love me?" Michael's voice suddenly came from behind Emily, making her freeze in place.

She wondered, 'When did he come here? How did he hear that?' At that moment, Emily wished she could crawl into a hole.

She thought, 'Who would have thought that after a big fight in the morning, he would hear my confession in the evening? Woe is me.'
