Chapter 157
"Mr. Lopez, I know you're trying to help me, but you can stop. I can handle this myself."
Everett found the 'Mr. Lopez' she uttered quite unsettling.
"Dorothy, we're a couple."
Dorothy did not respond.
Now that she was silent, Everett didn't know what to say. He felt a mixture of emotions.
They stared at each other for a long time, neither of them looking away.
Finally, Dorothy spoke, "Everett, the gap between us is just too big."
"I'm willing to meet you halfway." Everett said.
Dorothy shook her head. "Do you really think you can just up and leave your parents for me?"
Everett pressed his lips together. He was about to speak, but ultimately, he said nothing.
Suddenly, Dorothy's phone rang.
After looking down, she saw that it was her mom.
She immediately picked up, and Bella's voice came through. "Didn't you say the man you registered your marriage with was named Kenneth? Then why did Everett's mother come to me today, telling me to keep my daughter away from her son?"
Dorothy's heart sank.
"Mom..."
"Get over here now."
With that, Bella hung up, not giving her any room for discussion.
Dorothy quickly left Everett. Her face changed as soon as she stood up to leave.
Everett, realizing what was happening, quickly followed. "I'll go with you."
She looked up at him and said. "Your mom went to the hospital to see my mom."
Everett was speechless.
"Mr. Lopez, I just want my mom to live without being disturbed. Please tell Heather and your mother not to push people too far."
With that, she left the restaurant.
At that moment, Everett understood what Dorothy meant by 'gap.'
Dorothy took a taxi straight to her mom's.
As she walked in, she saw Bella's dark face.
The atmosphere was tense, and Dorothy was unable to say anything.
"Mom, I'm sorry..."
Bella looked at her with a gaze full of disappointment.
"Do you know why I'm so worried about you being deceived by men? Do you know why I'd rather die than see you bow down to men for money?" "I know."
"All my life, I've made many mistakes. Regret is useless now; the only thing I can do is make sure my only daughter doesn't repeat them. But you... you've let me down."
Bella's voice was calm, unlike her usual emotional self.
But Dorothy would rather have her mother yell at her and slap her than see her like this.
"Mom, please forgive me this once. From now on, I'll tell you everything, and I won't lie to you anymore. I only made this choice because I was scared of losing you."
Bella suddenly turned to her daughter, asking in a low voice, "What is your relationship with Kenneth?"
"We are friends."
"He's a good one. I can tell."
Bella hadn't been too hard on Kenneth. She'd thought of many ways to test her daughter's boyfriend, but, in the end, she only used one or two. Mainly because she felt that Kenneth was sincere.
But she never expected that her daughter had used him to deceive her.
If it weren't for Everett's mother showing up today, she would still be in the dark.
