The CEO's Lovely Twins -
Chapter 85 I Don'T Want To Go To That House
"No, I don't want to go to that house..." Her intermittent sleep talk was heard and there was a sympathetic look on Joseph's tense face. He was already thirteen when his father passed away. Although his mother was not there, he still had his grandpa who raised him since young.
His grandpa was still alive and healthy until today, he was energetic and had always enjoyed opposing him. Yet Hayden was different, she had lost her mother shortly after she was born. Although her father was still alive, he had started another family.
After having lived for a few years with her grandpa, her grandpa passed away. She was then accepted back into the Downey family by her father, yet no matter how, she was in an awkward position. She was supposed to be the rightful owner of the house, yet it turned out she was the one living under someone else's roof.
His only best friend since childhood, Kevin Jackman had used to comment that he was stubborn. He once thought it was the environment that made one stubborn, yet in regards to the environment Hayden grew up with, she should have lived a more stubborn life compared to him.
However, it turned out she had lived so freely that she even rejected the identity as the second mistress of the Downey family and worked as a manager at a hotel. He used to think he had known her very well, that she was only an ordinary woman who was astute in her work, but was brainless in daily life. Yet as he got along with her for a long while, he realized there was so much he did not know about her.
It was raining more and more heavily. Joseph frowned. He gazed at the foggy ocean and asked, "How long could we reach the shore?"
"We're almost there, please calm down, the rain here usually stops after five to ten minutes." The guy explained while steering the boat. He was trying to use the highest speed to return to the shore. After bringing both of them back to the hotel, Joseph realized it was still stormy outside when half an hour had passed.
The weather station only then issued a rainstorm alert and all the fishing boats on the sea surface retreated urgently. Some small boats had capsized in the ocean and the rescue team was sent to rescue. “Mr. Beckham, you..." Several show runners of the Ray-Trace Media were waiting for Freddie's news at the main hall of the hotel. Seeing Joseph bringing Hayden back, they were all startled.
"Get a doctor," without any bullshit, Joseph said curtly. He carried Hayden upstairs with the mouth of the show runners all agape and eyes widened.
"She's just seasick. Since she's not on the boat now, she doesn't have to take pills. I suppose due to getting wet by the rain, she has some fever. She'll be alright after taking antipyretic and have a sleep." After being diagnosed that there was not much problem in her, the doctor was brought out of the ward by the show runners. Joseph followed them out too. After sending the doctor away, one of the show runners turned around and was shocked when he saw him. He then greeted him. Joseph nodded as a reply and said, "Get a nurse here to take care of her for the night.”
The show runner let out an awkward look when he heard that. "Mr. Beckham, you know, a rainstorm that was not seen for many years has occurred today, many things have happened. There are already not many medical facilities on the island, and since it's said that a ferry heading towards the resort island has capsized, there are many casualties and the hospital is all occupied.
There's a lack of medical personnel and it's really hard to replace a nurse now." Having heard that, a nervous and gloomy look was seen on Joseph's face. "Capsize? Which ferry?" He suddenly recalled the fact that Stella had not returned until now.
The show runner thought he was worried of something happening to Freddie and he quickly explained, "Don't worry, Mr. Beckham, it's not the one boarded by Freddie. Freddie and Miss Downey's daughter have already reached the destined island safely now, it's just that they couldn't come back in the meantime.
They have reported their safety just now." Joseph's look was gradually at ease. "As for replaceing a nurse..." The show runner slightly hesitated. "If so, then forget about it." He waved and asked him to leave. He then went back into the ward.
Her face grew more and more lifeless as she lied on the smoky blue bed. She was not such a person when she was awake. Joseph sat at the edge of the bed and examined her face. Having remembered encountering her in the lift back then, that she had claimed he was her boyfriend shamelessly, a soft light appeared in his eyes. This woman was impressive when she acted bold and reckless, yet she was able to melt someone's heart when she was fragile and helpless.
He stooped and tried to see her face clearly. Yet as he approached her, he realized he could not resist approaching her until he landed a kiss on her lips. The sound of the rain was loud outside the window and the curtain was blown by the wind. Raindrops were splashed onto the window, and from the lofty shadow seen from the wall, he was kissing someone in a coma.
Hayden felt her head heavy. She felt herself floating and sinking rhythmically as if she had fallen into the water. She kept on sensing someone covering her with a blanket and changing the handkerchief on her forehead with a cold one to reduce the temperature in a daze. She knew someone was beside her, yet she still could not help but fell into a dream she had had many years ago.
Back then, her grandpa was going to die due to heart failure, and she who was still young was lying on the bed. Her grandpa's haggard, branch-like hand was holding her. His eyes were brimmed with worries and he kept on reminding her, "Hayden, do be a good girl once you go home, but you don't have to be scared whenever you do anything. Your father still has you in his heart, if you've suffered; tell him, he won't refuse to help you."
"Grandpa, I don't want to go. I'll listen to you and won't eat so many sweets anymore." She was like a bystander, listening to how the little girl with two braids crying in grievance.
She seemed to not realize her grandpa was going to die, and was thinking he was abandoning her, wanting her to leave instead. There was suddenly a commotion in the hospital and several men and women with mean look suddenly broke into the ward.
One of them who was a fat lady with perms was wearing a big purple luxurious coat. She bawled at young Hayden upon seeing her, "You little jinx, you've killed your mother when you're born, now look at how you've killed your own grandpa with such a young age. Why are you all still standing here? Hurry up and get her out of here, the more I see her the more I'm disgusted."
"No, I don't want to leave, grandpa, grandpa..." Young Hayden was dragged out of the ward by two adults. She turned around and glimpsed the moment she was taken out. The old man on the bed was widening his eyes as he watched his little granddaughter being dragged away. He seemed to have something more to say. Amidst his children's sorrowful wails, his haggard hand finally dropped and hung at the side of the bed.
"Hey, so this is the little jinx?"
"She really has a cockroach life." "Yup, that's her."
After getting older, Hayden started to be able to understand comments from people around her to her. Not knowing which time was it, after being forced to the corner of the wall, an exploding urge suddenly emerged from inside her and she bawled, "I'm not a jinx!" She then pushed the little fat boy who was spitting at her down to the ground. "How dare you push him? You little damn jinx! The jinx wants to murder someone!"
"I'm not!" Hayden shrilled and woke up from the nightmare at once. The warmth from the back of the hand made her gradually regained her calmness. As she saw Joseph who was opening his tiresome eyes was lying down beside her, she was dumbfounded. A shrill then pierced through the rainy night.
