The CEO’S Unplanned Heir novel (Aurelia and Leopold) -
Chapter 230
Chapter 230
He stooped down, his handsome face dangerously close to hers, almost touching. “Do you oftendream of me?”
His warm breath, heavy with a heady mix of hormones, swirled around her face, like an intoxicatingspell that made her cheeks redder, hotter, as if they were about to catch fire.
“Isn't it normal to dream of people close to us? I'm sure you dream of me too?”
A shadow of gloom crossed Leopold's face when he heard her words. Indeed, he often dreamt ofthis girl. He dreamt of her running around, playing hide and seek with him, yet never able to replaceher. He dreamt of her with other men, making him a cuckold, so infuriating that he woke upwanting to punch a punching
bag...
"Dreaming of you must be a nightmare,” he grumbled.
Right back at you, she thought.
“I thought you wouldn't come today,” she said.
"Why?" He took off his coat, leaning against the bedpost, sitting next to her, an air of casual ease onhis face.
She swallowed, whispering, “I heard you broke off your engagement with Elowen.”
His eyebrows lifted slightly, his scorching gaze wandering on her face, seemingly trying to decipherher every subtle reaction. But she was calmer than he'd expected, so calm that it annoyed him. Hiseyebrows furrowed, “So what?”
“So, you should be celebrating your newly single status, not visiting me,” she said seriously.
Her words felt like a bucket of cold water dumped over Leopold's head, dousing his mood andigniting his temper. “You don't wish for me to break off the engagement?” Leopold asked.
She bowed her head. It was his business. What did it have to do with her?
“You didn't break it off for me, did you?" It was for Evelyn!
She mumbled, as if talking to herself, but Leopold heard her, his eyebrows knitting together, angerflashing in
his eyes.
“Indeed, it's not for you. You're not worth it.” He ground out the words through clenched teeth. This heartless, ungrateful woman didn’t deserve his efforts. He was doing it all for the children.Aurelia felt a pang in her heart, her fingers unconsciously gripping the blanket.
The room fell into a deathly silence. A chill seemed to creep through the air.
Aurelia saw the displeasure on his face. She hadn't congratulated him, hadn't celebrated hishappiness. But she didn't feel the slightest bit happy; she didn't want to celebrate his reunion withEvelyn.
One man's joy is another man's sorrow. Their happiness was her pain!
Leopold stood up, grabbed a glass from the table, gulped down some water, then walked to thewindow, pushing it open to let the chilly wind in.
Aurelia propped herself up, a cold gust of wind hitting her, making her sneeze. Leopold quicklyclosed the window, came back, and pulled up her blanket, wrapping her up to her neck.
“Lie back down!" he commanded.
She obediently lay back down, cautiously whispering, “Did your aunt have something to do withEvelyn's brake failure?”
Leopold sat down on the edge of the bed, took a sip of water, his deep eyes glittering in thelamplight, unfathomable. He had been waiting, waiting for Elara to make her move
Every move she made was under his watchful eye, even if she was being secretive, she couldn'tescape his scrutiny.
"Are you scared?”
“Yes.” She nodded honestly. If her identity was exposed, she would become a target. Elara, Evelyn, and the yet to be exposed mastermind behind the scenes would all come after her, wanting to seeher dead.
The thought made her clutch her stomach, shuddering.
Leopold, sensing her fear, reached over and placed his hand over hers. “If you're scared, thenbehave and don't try to be clever or make your own decisions.”
