“What's there to fear? Evelyn is our future CEO's wife. She is trying to compete with Evelyn for thedirector's position She's overstepping her boundaries. Sooner or later, Evelyn will kick her out of thecompany As long as we stick with Evelyn and Mr. Louis, we're fine.”
“The situation seems pretty delicate to me. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched,”Wendy
cautioned
Manager Simms said with disapproval, “If she can get Mr. Leopold to send an email, I'll eat mykeyboard. That won't happen.”
Ms. Wendy just smiled and didn't say anything else.
Mr. Leopold didn't send an email. Instead, Mr. Harry did. He noticed the whole company, statingthat Manager Simms was undermining the company’s functioning by refusing to cooperate with themanagement, thus seriously disrupting the marketing department's plans. Effective immediately, hismanagerial duties were revoked.
Soon after, Kevin issued an instruction, “The marketing department must go all out to promote andsell Destiny Any disobedience will be severely punished.”
Everyone knew that Kevin could represent Mr. Leopold.
Manager Simms was stunned.
Wendy sighed, “I told you, Simms. The situation is very delicate. Mr. Leopold's mind is inscrutable.Tread carefully.”
"I refuse to accept this. I'm going to see Mr. Louis and Evelyn,” Manager Simms stormed out of theoffice.
In the Design Department.
Aurelia was sipping on her cup of coffee while reviewing the jewelry show's PowerPointpresentation.
Manager Simms rushed in and went straight to Evelyn's desk.
“Ms. Evelyn, could you please speak to Mr. Leopold for me? I refused to withdraw theadvertisements because it would harm Eternal Love. It's only been a couple of months since itslaunch and the momentum is strong. Removing the ads will hurt Eternal Love.”
Evelyn was also frustrated. She wished that Destiny didn't even have a single ad slot. But she knewthat once Leopold made a decision, it was final. If she went to plead Simms’ case, she would onlyget a scolding.
“Manager Simms, Kevin has already sent out an email. The decisions been made and there'snothing I can
do.”
Manager Simms was getting annoyed. He couldn't believe he was the scapegoat, “Aren“t youLeopold's girlfriend? Your words should carry more weight than Aurelia’s, a complete outsider.”
His voice was loud enough that everyone in the Design Department heard him. They exchangedlooks, their expressions full of intrigue
Evelyn was awkward. She hadn't even succeeded in getting closer to Leopold yet.
Aurelia cut in, “Manager Simms, don't get the wrong idea. I didn’t go to the CEO's office today. Thisis a decision made within your department, and it has nothing to do with me. How can I interfere inyour department's personnel decisions? You're the one who said that rank has its privileges. Mr.Harry is your direct superior. If you don't listen to him, he can only report you to the higher-ups.”Her words were like a bone stuck in Simms’ throat, making him speechless.
He had assumed that since Mr. Harry and Mr. Louis were at odds, and Mr. Louis was close to thefuture CEO's wife, Mr. Harry would be fired sooner or later. He never expected to become thescapegoat before that happened.
"Fine, 1 admit I misjudged the situation and picked the wrong side. I'll take my lumps,” he grumbledand stormed off.
Evelyn felt embarrassed. She adjusted her hair and muttered to herself, “He should have gone to Mr.Louis about the marketing department's issues. No matter how influential I am, I can't meddle inother departments.”
Aurelia chuckled, “Mr. Leopold always separates business from personal matters. Because themarketing department's issues affected Destiny's sales, the company and all major shareholderssuffered. The boss wants a win-win situation, not infighting. After all, the jewelry industry is fiercelycompetitive. Our real enemies are outside, not within.”
Evelyn gave her a sly look. Was this the smooth talk she used to persuade Leopold?
But she was telling the truth about not visiting the CEO's office today.
