The words had an intimidating grip, clearly cutting off all her escape routes, making it impossiblefor her to work in the other companies

With fear, she swallowed, pushing away his hand, “I need some time to think.”

Kane came bounding in from outside, fresh from his classes, “Mom, Laura taught me how to makepancakes, and I'll whip some up for you.”

These past few days, Leopold had been sneaking into the kitchen, learning culinary tricks fromLaura. Unfortunately, he seemed to be lacking a gift for it, nearly setting the kitchen ablaze andeven managing to earn himself several blisters from hot oil splatters. Kane, on the other hand,picked up the pancake recipe in no time.

He felt Dad should focus on other ways to cheer Mom up. He'd take care of the cooking.

Leopold rubbed his forehead, even the mere mention of cooking irked him, and his oil burns startedto throb.

He wasn't one to give up.

He was the top bachelor of Elysium, surely a little kitchen wouldn't defeat him.

Aurelia ran her fingers gently through Kane's hair, “Honey, you're still too young, and it's dangerousfor you to cook in the kitchens. If you want pancakes, how about I make them for you?”

Fully serious, Kane stared back at her, “I want you to taste the pancakes I make myself. Don't worry,and I'll be careful.”

He sauntered into the kitchen, retrieving flour, eggs, and milk.

Aurelia stood silently by, watching him with mixed emotions. Her son was growing up, but it washeart-wrenching.

In comparison to William, he was more like Leopold, even their temperaments matched. He was likea carbon copy of Leopold. While William's personality was more like her.

Leopold also joined them, leaning against the kitchen doorway, eyeing his son with

interest.

True to the saying, the student outdoes the master, and their son was proving to be morecompetent, without any weak points.

Aurelia sensed Leopold's presence and as she turned towards him, their eyes met, kindlingunspoken warmth.

She quickly averted hér gaze, refusing to let any hint of affection slip through.

She had chosen Arnold, deciding to spend the rest of her life repaying his kindness and

care. Her ties with Leopold were officially over.

She wouldn't waver, and she wouldn't do anything to upset Arnold.

As for her feelings for Leopold, they would be locked away, never to be unearthed again.....Leopold's gaze dimmed, tinted with a hint of melancholy. He wasn't sure if he could win her back,and he only had that marriage certificate to hold onto her.

Perhaps their bond wasn't entirely severed, otherwise, he wouldn't have run into her in Hawaii andbrought her back.

Kane used a whisk to turn the batter into a smooth mix, poured it into a mold, brushed on somebutter, sprinkled sesame seeds, and finally slid it into the oven

“Mom, it'll be ready to eat once it's baked.”

Aurelia took his cold little hand, “Kane, you haven't tasted my cooking yet. How about I make yousome delicious dishes tonight?”

“Sure.” Kane nodded, “Dad also loves it.” He turned towards Leopold, who had an enigmatic smileon his face. He too had never tasted a meal prepared by Aurelia.

Just then, Aurelia’'s phone rang, and it was a call from William.

“Mommy, my stomach hurts so bad. When are you coming home?”

Aurelia jolted, “What did you eat today? Why is your stomach hurting all of a sudden?”

“I just had an ice cream.”

“Must have upset your stomach. Is your daddy home?”

"No."

“Did Abbey give you some probiotics?”

“I took her, but it's still hurting. Can you come home soon, I'm scared.”

"Don't be scared, sweetheart. Mommy will be home in no time.”

Aurelia hung up, looking apologetically at Kane, “Sorry, I have an emergency, and I need to gohome.”

Kane's bright eyes immediately dimmed, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

But hearing his little brother was sick, he nodded understandingly, “It's okay, and don't worry. I'llsave the pancakes for when you come back.”
