The Chamber of Sins
Chapter 9.2 "Our future"

Margo stood hidden until Robert left Heaven. She felt a void growing inside her as seeing him leaving, but she had a plan and if it will succeed, they may be together. She took a deep breath and prayed that nobody would notice a human spirit wandering unaccompanied by an angel or whoever.

She hid behind a pillar adorned with golden cherubs and waited for an opportunity to enter the Chamber of Sins to arise. The traffic was heavy as lots of humans had lost their lives and all their sins were being taken to the Chamber. She couldn’t stay hidden forever, so she came out. She pressed her palm on her chest and could swear that she sensed her heart pumping like crazy.

The ephemerous golden silhouettes kept passing by her, ignoring her totally. At first, she kept her head down, terrified that someone will see what she really is, and they will keep her in Heaven forever. She was shaking, only thinking of it.

God give me straight; she thought and smiled at the thought that she was so close to God as somebody in her form can be. I wonder if he has his own room? I might meet him now, in this very place. That would be something to tell my grandchildren.

The Chamber of Sins was the second one on the left. The door was closed, and Margo hoped she wouldn’t need a key to enter. Invisible loudspeakers played an ethereal melody that seemed to resonate with the matter surrounding her. She inhaled deeply and pressed the handle. The door opened with no sound.

The room was crowdy, angels swarming around a system of interconnected tubes that emerged in a big circumference pipe, and from it, another ten tubes ramified - one for every sin in the Bible. Heaven could sink under the heaviness of the people’s sins.

Margo realised she was in the wrong room. She was sure that the chamber she visited last time had archangels and a lyre that is supposed to be the most valuable thing in Heaven. She grimaced as following the intricate system and saw an exit door from the current room through a small niche in the wall. Margo smirked. Here you are!

She stepped penitently inside the next room. An intense incense smell tickled her nostrils, and she inhaled it hungrily. It had a calming effect on her ghostly nerves.

The archangels were there, guarding their treasure. They were protecting the precious book, the book that the girl needed so badly.

It was no way that she could pass by those celestial beings. The lyre was shining in front of her, almost inviting her to come and take it. Margo never asked herself if she could take the lyre with no one seeing it. It was impossible at first sight, but she had to try. She is going to steal the Book of Sins and in exchange, she will ask for her life back. I am going to be with Robert in my human form and I am going to live. I am going to be loved. It is my right!

She felt a burning flame inside her. A sign of youth courage loomed from fears and anticipation. She felt like riding a rollercoaster. All the desires and plans brought her closer to a better future, without realising that the ultimate destination was so close. It is strange how young people see their future time on Earth as being there - solid and consistent and, as time goes on, it becomes limited and of poor quality.

The girl sighed and tried to figure out a solution. The archangels were there, and they were not going anywhere for sure. She looked further. A colossal hall was looming behind the lyre. A fountain springing from the ceiling was occupying its centre, its waters in the rainbow colours surrounded by sparks of energy flooded in the air.

I have to try. Now or never.

She came out from the hiding spot and moved towards the guardians, creeping by the walls. They seem not to notice her, so she continued her way without even asking what is going on. Everything was too easy. Margo sneaked between them and reached the lyre. Her heart rumbled in her ears as she peered behind her back. The archangels were there, covering the lyre and her with their wings. It was something about that lyre, hypnotic and mysterious. Her hands got their one will and touched its cords, and in return, it played high mystic notes. But nothing happened. The lyre was just an instrument, and Margo panicked at seeing her plan crumble.

They moved it for sure; she thought. They hid it! She was about to cry when she noticed a puddle. The microscopic eye of water sparkled in the rainbow colour.

“The fountain!” Margo said out loud. She put her hand over her mouth, realising that she has just revealed her presence. The fountain’s whispering reached Margo’s ears, and the girl faltered towards it. It was hypnotic, its colours inviting her, trying to insinuate into her thoughts. Margo got a sense of infinity inside her, a warm feeling like the one she got when she was in Sister Mary’s arms. All the good thoughts grow to the surface, the sorrow and the tears disappearing from her mind. Colours like she has never seen before embraced her, making her feel at home. Home? The question came up. She never had a home.

And there it was - the magnificent fountain bringing the remarkable colours of the rainbow in front of her. As the girl approached the waterfall, she sensed an unexpected vibration reverberating inside her. It was alive, pulsing as her blood pulsed, mirroring the watery body of hers.

As hypnotised, she touched the vivid water, mellow music playing into her ears. There you are! She exhaled as she recognised the real lyre hiding behind the heavenly rainbow.

Margo stretched her hand and tried to touch the most desirable object in the world. She touched it indeed, but instead of having it in her hands, the lyre took her in its realm.

Margo gasped for air as she found herself inside the Book, shelves full of shining balls rising in front of her. At first, she refrained from touching any of them.
