Peter said he knew nothing about such feelings, but he knew better than anyone he had waited a year-no, ten years-and he had endured it all.

Charles reached out and patted Peter's shoulder. "In that case, hurry up and get the West City project done for me. After that, whatever you do with Lennon Group is none of my business."

Peter smiled faintly. He brushed Charles' hand off his shoulder and stood up. The two equally formidable men faced each other, neither losing ground.

"You've got it all planned out, haven't you? The West City project won't be finished in a year or two. Are you trying to delay Tania's return?"

Charles narrowed his eyes. "Or maybe you've got a better plan? Do you even know where Tania is now?"

Peter pressed his lips together. "Charles, if you ever fall into my hands, I'll make sure you experience what this feels like!"

Charles smirked. "We'll see when that day comes." He then asked, "How's the investigation I asked you to do last time?"

Peter raised an eyebrow, his skeptical gaze fixed on Charles. "Are you that eager to know Noelle's background?"

"It's not about wanting to know; it's about cutting her ties with the Shaw family." Without doing so, his relationship with Noelle would never run smoothly.

The Shaw family was like a ticking time bomb. Although they did not pose much of a threat, desperate people could be unpredictable. Their attitude toward Noelle was peculiar, and there were too many secrets surrounding her.

The Hoffmans were not easy to deal with either. Apart from Clarisse's strong opposition, Maxwell would also be against it. Hence, Charles needed to sever Noelle's connections with the Shaw family as soon as possible.

This was why Charles agreed to Noelle's request to keep their relationship private for the time being. Once their relationship went public, both the Hoffmans and the Bakers would set their sights on Noelle.

Even though Charles could protect

her, he was not sure of her thoughts or the unpredictable elements in play. Charles never did anything be was not confident about. Until these hidden threats were dealt with, he agreed it was best not to make their relationship known.

"Noelle likely isn't Jade's daughter, and as for whether she's Julian's daughter, I still need to verify that. It's tricky because Noelle is already in her 20s. If she really isn't Jade's or the Shaw family's child, we'd have to investigate from over 20 years ago.

"But something is definitely off. Both Sebastian and Samuel treat Noelle as if they owe her something."

Charles frowned. He had noticed that too. If Sebastian and Samuel were unaware of Noelle's true background, their behavior would seem normal, but then the rest of the Shaw family's actions would not make sense.

If the two did know, then it was their behavior that was peculiar.

"I found out that apart from Samuel transferring his shares to Noelle, Sebastian has also arranged to leave all his assets, including real estate, to Noelle. But this will only happen after his death.

"Don't you replace that odd? Jade is Sebastian's daughter, and Winter is his granddaughter, so why does Sebastian's will and estate planning exclude both of them and only mention Noelle?" Peter shared the replaceings from his recent investigation with Charles, who was deep in thought.

"What else?" Charles asked.

"What else?"
