The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 608
Janet came from a world where everything was sunshine and rainbows. No one ever dared to cross her with harsh words. However, with Charles, it was like he had a knack for breaking her heart over and over. Holding back tears, Janet pouted. "Charles, you've got it all wrong. I just wanted to head back with you. That's all!"
"All I see is your money and nothing more."
"Charles, what's that supposed to mean?" Janet's face lost all color. "I can't understand what you're saying!"
"You don't want to get it. That's the problem." Charles's frown deepened, his gaze growing intense. "You're playing dumb, but you know exactly what I'm saying."
Janet's face turned even whiter, her lip quivering. "Charles, how can you be so cruel? I thought I meant..."
"I've been biting my tongue because you're a Baker, but don't push it. I've shown your family plenty of respect, but if you start taking advantage, don't expect me to play nice. Step aside!" With a scowl, Charles cut the conversation short, done with the back-and-forth.
Janet's heart was in turmoil. "Charles, you can't do this to me. We're engaged. You're supposed to care about me." She pressed on. "Have you found someone else? is that why you're so distant? Charles, please, don't be mad. I really care about you. If there's someone else, I won't hold it against you. Just end it with her, and we can forget all this ever happened."
"Are you out of your mind?" Charles snapped, losing his patience. "I'm telling you for the last time, step back. Or better yet, just disappear Otherwise, I'll kick you out of
only Colossus Group and not?
the
Hoffman family but the entire Brookville."
As Janet tried to approach him, Charles shoved her back effortlessly, without a hint of hesitation or gentleness. He towered over her, his actions swift in the lonely parking lot. When Janet finally regained her composure, she found herself sprawled on the ground, several feet away from Charles.
He had not even touched her. He had simply used his coat to push her aside.
With a cold snort, Charles looked at the coat in his hand with revulsion and tossed it into a nearby trash can.
Janet was sprawled on the ground, too hurt to rise, her face ghostly as she watched Charles's dismissive actions. "Charles!" she cried out.
Charles swiftly opened his car door and slid in, catching Noelle's eye as she seemed about to speak. He squinted, gave her hand a reassuring pat, and Noelle managed a weak smile before buckling up.
Janet scrambled to her feet and dashed after him, calling out, "Charles, it doesn't matter how much you've pushed me away before. You can't change the fact that I'm going to be your wife. I'll make sure you ask for my hand with a smile on your face."
Charles could not help but smirk as he floored the gas pedal, zooming out of the garage.
