The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 621
Janet regained her composure, gulping to calm her nerves before glancing around her. "Aunt Clary, no one saw me in the state I was in just now, right?" She had nearly forgotten that they were at an annual dinner where plenty of people were present.
Yes, Kelly was tarnished now!
Clarisse breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Janet return to normal. "It's alright, no one noticed." Although that was what Clarisse claimed, the truth was that plenty of people had noticed. Still, they all decided to turn a blind eye because of Clarisse and Janet's identities. "Calm down. Also, did you do the decorations for the venue this year?" Clarisse asked as she swept an admiring gaze across the room. "Not bad. You're becoming more and more competent, Janet. Charles will be pleased when he learns of this." "Really, Aunt Clary?"
"Of course. Since when have I lied to you? Enough of that for now, you'll be hosting the annual dinner later, so why don't you go powder your nose? You must make sure to put your best self out later, and make sure Charles sees you," Clarisse said encouragingly to Janet. When she saw Henry walk over while Nancy held onto his arm, Clarisse frowned before drawing in a breath and saying, "Go on, Janet!"
"Alright, Aunt Clary. I'll take my leave for now, and return to you later!"
Janet happily headed backstage to touch up her makeup while Clarisse made her way over to Henry. "Henry, Nancy. It's been a while."
"You're a funny one, Clarisse. It's only been a few days!" Henry said as he helped Nancy make her way past Clarisse and took a seat nearby. "Nancy, do you want a drink?"
"Water is fine!" Nancy said as she smiled. When she noticed Clarisse walking over, she said, "Clarisse, would you like to join me? Henry was just about to get me some water, would you like some too?"
Clarisse pursed her lips together, an ugly look on her face as she nodded. "Thanks for the trouble, Henry." Then, she added, "Don't worry about Nancy, Henry. I'll take care of her."
Henry narrowed his eyes and gave Clarisse a warning look before he turned to Nancy and said, "I'll be right back."
"Alright!" Nancy smiled. "Go on."
The look on Clarisse's face immediately changed to reveal her true feelings after Henry walked off. "Nancy, you seem quite gleeful."
Nancy frowned. "I don't understand what you're talking about, Clarrise. Why would I be gleeful?"
"You know what I'm talking about.
All of us know what sort of tricks
you pulled back then to get Henry to marry you. Don't be fooled into thinking that Henry loves you now just because he's nice to you. Let me be the one to tell you that it's because he pities you, and he feels bad about how sickly you are. Do you really think you're that amazing?"
"Looks like your personality hasn't changed much despite having left the Hoffman family for so many years, Clarisse. I still don't
understand what you're saying, just as I never did all those years ago. You should stop wasting your energy talking to me, Clarisse."
"You..." Clarisse was so angry that she struggled to form a complete sentence.
When faced with Nancy's attitude, Clarisse could not help but feel like she was punching a cloud. There was no place for her to let out her strength.
Nancy was the same as she had always been. Nothing worked on her, no matter if it was through persuasion or by force.
"This is what's so annoying about you, Nancy Naylor. I've hated you since the first time I set my eyes on you."
"Things are bound to go not according to plan as we live out our time on this earth. I'm not a saint, nor am I money. There's no way everyone would love me, and there's nothing I can do about the fact that you don't like me, Clarisse."
"Cut the nonsense, Nancy. I know
you're filled with glee because you
got Henry, caused me a life of suffering and finally took my son from me. I wonder, you know, what gives a woman like you those rights? What right do you have? I was the one who carried Charles to term and gave birth to him, so what gives you the right to claim him as yours?"
