The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 692
Becky still felt a bit uncertain at first. However, remembering how Janet had practically humbled herself in front of her earlier, she nodded. "Alright then. Mr. Wells, do you need anything else?" Seeing Ronald wave her off, Becky returned to her work.
Ronald was right. Later that afternoon, Janet approached her again, saying she wanted to treat Becky to dinner that evening.
Becky hesitated for a moment, but after playing hard to get, she agreed, "Alright, fine."
"Great, it's settled, then. I'll wait for you in the parking lot after work. We can go shopping together," Janet said, looking at Becky.
Inwardly, she felt a sense of disdain, thinking to herself how Becky acted so aloof at first, only to give in to the lure of money in the end.
Meanwhile, Becky could not help but wonder when Charles would finally put an end to Janet's nonsense. She was growing incredibly tired of it all.
Noelle had been busy the entire day. Since it was the first day back after the holiday, there was a pile-up of work, and everyone was overwhelmed.
By the time she finally caught a break, it was almost the end of the workday.
After tidying up her desk, Arya came over, cheerfully tapping on Noelle's desk. "Noelle, how about we go shopping today?"
Noelle raised an eyebrow. "What's gotten into you? Why do you want to go shopping all of a sudden?"
Arya grinned. "Well, it's been a while since I last saw you. Plus, with New Year's approaching, I thought I shouldn't skimp on myself this year. I want to treat myself to some new outfits."
She then glanced at Noelle and added, "But you know, it's funny. I always invite you to go shopping, and you say you don't have time. But your clothes are always so nice. When do you even have the time to buy them?"
Noelle chuckled. "I just grab them
whenever.
a deal for me." As she thought about it, she remembered that she could not return to Phoenix Tree
not Sn't that big of
Residence from today onward. This meant she had to keep her distance from Charles for a while.
The thought made Noelle feel a pang of sadness.
She wondered if what she was doing was right or wrong. After all, they were legally married-why should they have to hide it from everyone?
However, she then thought about the current complicated situation. It was not just the Shaws eyeing them. There was also the trouble brewing with the Hoffmans and the Bakers. Noelle had to swallow her feelings and keep her frustrations in check.
"What's wrong?" Arya noticed that Noelle seemed off and shook her arm. "I was just talking about shopping, and suddenly, you look all melancholic."
Noelle shook her head at Arya's words, quickly pushing her feelings aside. "It's nothing. Alright, let's go shopping" She realized that she needed to go back to the place she was renting since she could not go back to Phoenix Tree Residence.
The place probably had not been cleaned in a while, and there were surely things she would need to buy. "Let's head to the mall. I need to pick up some stuff for the house." "Really? Alright, let me pack up. We'll head out in a bit!"
Arya happily bounced back to her desk to gather her things. Noelle watched her carefree demeanor with a smile and shook her head. Just then, her phone rang. It was Charles. "Hello?"
"It's me," came Charles' deep voice.
Noelle could not help but pause for a moment. "Yeah, I know."
"I'm sorry we can't go home together today, Nelly."
