EMILY KING POV

Unfortunately, the guards push me too hard on the chest, making me stumble on the floor. I screamed as pain thudded inside my chest. I clenched my hand around the scar area. Trying to relieve the pain.

It hurts.

My head throbbed, along with the pain, and I blinked my eyes, trying to clear the black spots that keep appearing on my eyes.

“Emily!”

I woke up to the sound of footsteps.

Murmured voices.

The click of the prison door being unlocked.

I open my eyes and found myself on Joel’s embrace on the floor. His coat is covering me. Instead of looking at the door, he looked at me with concern in his eyes.

“You okay?” He asked as he stroke my hair.

I nodded.

“Your face is so pale, and you’re cold. Are you sure?” Joel asked again in a worried tone.

I sighed and nodded, throwing him a small smile.

A scream left my mouth when a firm hand grabbed me by my neck. The person forced me to stand up, stumble forward and stand face to face with the King. My world goes dizzy at the sudden action. I grabbed his hand, avoiding it from ripping my head off. Good thing the chains had been removed.

“W-what are you do-,” I was being cut off by a hard slap on my face.

“Ah!”

I stumble backwards, and my world spun like crazy. Joel grabbed me and slowly stroke my head to soothe the dizziness.

“That’s not a way to treat a lady, Blackie,” He mocks the King.

“Shut up!” The king yell, and Joel immediately cover my ears.

He looks at me with a cold expression. I was confused as hell to why the King was acting like this to me.

“So, this is why you sneak out? Again? Huh, Emily?” The King asked in an accusing tone.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

“Sneak out? What’d you-” I was cut off by his yell.

“Shut up! Don’t lie to me! You can’t fool me anymore! I’m not gonna let you off this time! Does it feel good to make me looks like a fool? Huh?!”

Good thing Joel was covering my ears. My head throbbed in pain as I look over his face trying to remember who is this King to me.

How did he know my name?

A flash of memory makes me yelp in pain. It was about a boy and a girl crying besides their deceased parents. Joel quickly hid my face in the crook of his neck and stroke my head, whispering sweet nothings into my ears.

“Don’t touch her!”

The King yells, grabbing my arm. Pulling me away from Joel.

A shot of overbearing pain spread through my whole body. My body swayed, wanting to fall on the floor.

Thankfully, Joel grabbed me before it happened. Putting his hands on my chest as he transferred his energy to me. A warm aura seeps into my body like water cascading down a mountain. My pain goes numb as I sighed in content at the feeling.

“Well, I don’t care! I don’t know who she is to you. She is my partner, and I wouldn’t let you hurt her! What you are doing right now is only fueling her pain!” He stopped before continuing.

“I thought you were a great king,” He mutters.

“What’d you mean?” The King asked.

Joel exchanges a glance with me, and I shake my head. Not wanting other people knowing my secret.

“None of your business. I wanted to ask you, King of Krestochia, why did you arrest me, The King of Rhize, all of a sudden? What did I do?” Joel asks back.

“You did make a great mistake, Joel,”
