EMILY KING POV

I remove all of my clothes, leaving me in my undergarments. I barged into the bathroom and studied the scars on my chest in front of the full-body mirror.

The person who treats me, Aunt Melissa, as Jeff said, is a great healer. My wound is healed, but I still feel the throbbing pulse of pain inside my chest as if something is residing in it and it's blocking my power from healing myself.

A small lone tear escaped my eyes followed by another and another until a full stream of tears flowed down on my cheeks. I grabbed the edges of the sink with my head bowed down, and my shoulders shake as I sobbed.

The feeling of failure, fear, helpless anger, frustration, desperation, stress and pressure, and most of all, tiredness, pile up inside me like a big sack on my back. Washing over me like a big tidal wave, it shook me to the bones.

After several minutes later, I wiped my tears and turned the shower on, hissing when the water cascaded over my scars, making it sting.

After showering, I dried myself and replace clothes that can cover the scars on my chest.

I would have died if the sword gets a little bit closer to my liver.

It leaves a deep gash. An average-line-length. But, surely it was deep enough. More so, it goes through my back.

Ugly.

The words tugged at my mind, playing with my emotion, taunting me.

I jumped a bit hearing a knock on the door. I walked to the door and open it to reveal, Maddie, my sister-in-law, the Queen. She comes in without a word and locks the door behind her.

I felt like standing on amber when she set her cat-like eyes on me.

“Emily, tell me. Is it true?” She asked, staring intensely into my eyes.

“N-no... It’s not true, Maddie,” I shake my head nervously, my tone edgy.

I hoped that she will buy my lies. In which, I failed so many times.

I wanted to build a wall around my mind. But I can’t do that, and I hated it.

I don’t like people peeking what’s inside my head. But, I can’t blame her either.

Maddie has the power to read anyone’s mind without limit. If she knows I’ve been stabbed, I might as well vanished from the world.

No one ever put scars on my body.

“Stop lying. I know you’ve been-” I cut Maddie off.

“Maddie, do me a favour and keep this a secret between us, please?” I begged as my eyes went blurry.

“But-” I cut her off.

“Please!” I kneel in front of her, grabbing her hands.

“Emily! What are you doing?” She too kneeled holding my shoulders to keep me from bowing.

“Promise me not to tell anyone. If not, I’m gonna kneel like this-”

“I promise,”

I sighed in relief at her words.

A sudden knock on the door caught us off-guard as we stumbled to get up on our feet. Maddie opens the door revealing Blake.

“Promise, my wife? What are you both talking about?” Blake raises one eyebrow at us. He gave us a once over as suspicion clouded his eyes.

Maddie gave me a quick glance before grasping my brother’s arm and dragged him away from me.

Such a good sister-in-law.

I locked the door and turned around.

Only to face piercing blue eyes and a wicked smile.
