Behind him Reece and Daniels look at each other's faces in astonishment, the girls were silent and even the sisters were silent. No one would talk back to Morgan like that, let alone a man. It was as if they were declaring war on him to his face. Everyone could sense the evil aura that permeated the mobster's body, it was clear he was pissed off and when he got in that state his patience was not to be trifled with. -This kid just signed his death certificate-Daniels smirkingly denies and his nephew Reece joins him in mockery.

Demian's brain short-circuited just then, the fucker in front of him was either too stupid or too brave. In all his encounters he never looked down, he always stood up to him and that was admirable in an enemy, even if he didn't want to admit it. He was not a coward like many of those he had met over the years. He really wanted to pull out his gun and put a bullet in the boy's head, but then someone's voice behind him interrupted him. -Are you all the relatives of patient Violet Morgan? It was the doctor who interrupted them.

-How's my daughter, doctor? Aurora beat them all to it.

-She will be fine, she didn't suffer any burns. Just a few bumps, nothing important. She needs some rest and in a couple of days I think I'll be able to discharge her. -Can we see her? -Demian asks with a frown.

-Well, you see, she woke up a few minutes ago a bit disconcerted. I've explained more or less what happened and the young lady asked to see a Dylan Dallas.

-What? -Demian mumbles, more than irritated, indignant?

-This just keeps getting better and better," the blond man mutters, reveling in the scene.

-I'm sorry, it's what he asked me to do," apologises the doctor, sensing the tense atmosphere.

-There's no way this idiot is going to see my daughter.

-Demian, it's what she wants. He'll only be here for a moment, and then we can see her - His wife tries to appease him.

Dylan suspected that Demian's wife had a lot of power over the mobster, because her voice seemed like a balm to the boss. It was strange, the rumours said that this guy was cold and cruel. And a few minutes ago he was on the verge of proving it.

[...]

With difficulty Dylan managed to enter Violet's room, if the brunette's mother hadn't intervened he surely wouldn't have had the chance to see her. As soon as he opened the door he saw her awake looking out the window. She turned her bruised face when she saw his presence.

-You have come! -He says to her in a docile voice.

-You can't imagine what I had to go through to get in." The Frenchman stands in the doorway looking at the bruises and bandages on her body.

-Why do you say that?

-There's your whole family outside.

-My father gave you that blow, didn't he?

-Yes," he answers, running his tongue along the edge of his lips, "It's nothing!

-Does he blame you for what happened?

-You know him pretty well." He smiles, scratching his head, "Who's doing all this, Violet?

-I don't know...

He takes a few steps towards her without taking his eyes off her, if she had no idea who wanted to kill her how would he know.

-I think you're in danger.

-I'm always in danger, there's always someone who wants to hurt us, someone who wants revenge... it's always the same.

-How can you lead a life like that?

I couldn't understand how they liked to live like that, it was like being in trouble every day, not being at peace. It wasn't a healthy life.

-I was born in to that world." She shrugged. "It's my life, my world, and I like it." Those were the reasons they could never be together, but what the hell was she talking about? Together? "Thanks for taking me away from the car.

-You're welcome." He thanked her for changing the subject, since his thoughts were taking a different turn.

-Don't go too far.

-I don't think you'll see me again, Violet.

-Why? Why don't you want to be with me?

-I'm just a whim for you, you understand. -I'm just a whim for you. Besides, your father has made it clear to me that he doesn't want you to be near me. He blames me for all your attacks.

-That's ridiculous! -And what are you going to do about the lessons? You teach me.

-I'll ask for a change of course, and we won't see each other anymore.

Violet's heart squeezed hard at those words, she didn't want Dylan to go away. Yes well, at the beginning of that morning she was indifferent to him but after knowing that he had been the one who rescued her she couldn't fight with herself to keep him away. She wanted him close, very close... What was that called? It wasn't clear to her, and to be honest it was gnawing at the back of her mind.

-I'm going now, I hope you get better." He made a move to leave, but her words stopped him in his tracks.

-Don't leave me, please stay by my side, Dylan.

His back was still turned, how was he supposed to take that? Her voice had become soft, almost captivating. Was it a ruse? Was she manipulating him? It was possible, from the little he had known her, Violet was a manipulative woman, she was capable of anything to get what she wanted. He turned around to confront her and show her that her seductive tricks would not work against him. But in doing so he realised that it had been the worst mistake of his life, that look was no manipulation, it was so real that his heart began to beat so hard that it became painful.

With a question formulated in her head, and the words about to come out of her mouth a bunch of people invaded the room ruining the moment between the two of them. They all went to hug the brunette, while they both looked for each other with their eyes. But Dylan knew it was best to retreat, he took a few steps back admiring that bulky family. They could be the most dangerous family of assassins, but in spite of everything, family unity seemed to be the main and indispensable factor in them. However, they were still gangsters.

He turned away, the words still stuck in his throat, and left Violet Morgan's room, hoping he would never see her again. It made the most sense to keep her out of his life, both for her and for himself. Just as his father would never allow them to have any kind of relationship, Dylan walked down the corridor, putting his hands in his pockets, believing he was doing the right thing, but because he felt it wasn't the right thing to do. If she was just the whim of the mob boss's youngest daughter, she was just a spoiled brat. -You'd better stay away Dylan, or you'll end up with a bullet in your head and being buried ten feet under. That woman will take you straight to the grave.

Despite the hugs and the joy on the faces of her relatives Violet was not happy at all, she knew that Dylan wanted to tell her something else but the interruption didn't allow it. The young woman couldn't stop looking at the door through which she saw him leave, if it wasn't for the bruises on his body and the bandages she wouldn't have thought too much about leaving after him. She longed to know what it was that he was thinking of telling her, her heart was getting tighter and tighter, confusing her even more than it already

was.
