The Day I Kissed An Older Man -
Chapter 2353
'He's right. To him, my current exhaustion is also self-inflicted. I could've found an easier job if I didn't insist on pursuing an acting career. But why am I so tired? Was it because I didn't sleep at all last night due to him? And yet he dares to criticize my life choice?' thought Melody.
Not only did Melody feel physically tired, but she was also emotionally drained because she still owed Lucas a lot of money, which left her feeling trapped.
She certainly wished, if possible, that she did not owe him anything so that she could openly pursue her own desires without fear instead of feeling timid and constrained in everything she did.
"Is this really what you think? Do you believe this is my fault? If you think all this exhaustion is deserved on my part, then please, just stay away from me. I'm just a small-time actress. I'm not worth you wasting so much time on me, nor do I want to argue with you anymore."
Melody picked up the crutches leaning against the sofa and leaned on it as she walked away. She wanted to remove her makeup and then go back to her dormitory to have a good sleep.
Seeing her using the crutches instead of asking him to carry her made Lucas annoyed.
"Why do you insist on using the crutches? Why won't you ask me for help?" asked Lucas.
Melody turned back with some surprise. "Are you kidding me? I can walk with the crutches myself. Why should I ask for your help? I already told you before I left home that you can't be with me all the time, so why do you insist that I rely on you? I am a grown woman, not some plaything that needs you to survive!"
Melody seemed genuinely incredulous. Lucas avoided her gaze, suddenly hesitant to meet her eyes.
"I didn't mean it that way. I just feel like you should ask for my help since I'm here with you now."
"There's no need. Besides, you'll leave me one day anyway, so I've already gotten used to it," replied Melody flatly.
Melody had been accustomed to doing everything herself since she was very young, perhaps a habit formed by the environment she grew up in. No one could rely on another person forever; her parents had already hammered this into her. Thus, why bother seeking validation from a stranger like Lucas?
Even though Wendy was a few years older than Melody, whenever she did something wrong, their parents were always there to back her up, so she never felt afraid. However, it was a different case for Melody.
In their household, even breaking a glass would scare Melody for a long time. She did not know if it would provoke her mother's disgust. She was terrified of seeing the disdain in her mother's eyes, as if saying "What good are you if you can't even do this right?"
Despite her fear, Melody still managed to endure all the disdain thrown at her. Afterward, she resolved that if she ever had children, she would not let them live in fear.
It was the same when she grew up. Melody would not have accumulated such heavy debts if it were not for her family. However, she had never regretted her choice. It was better to be in debt than to continue suffering in that family.
