"I..." Melody did not know how to respond to Sherman. Was she happy with Lucas' side?

There had been moments of happiness where just being in the same space as him seemed enough for her. However, ever since Thalia appeared, everything became complicated. Lucas' attention was no longer solely on her; there was another woman in his world, someone he spent more time with and understood better.

Since then, being with Lucas has brought more frustration than happiness. However, she was willing to endure it just for those fleeting moments of happiness.

Until Melody could not bear it anymore and moved out of the house, she wanted to be clearer-headed and also wanted to know what kind of feelings Lucas truly had for her. Did he even love her?

"True happiness doesn't require hesitation or contemplation. You don't need to tell me the answer. I can see it in your expression, Melody. I don't demand an answer from you. Just remember what I've said to you today. Always prioritize your own happiness, no matter who you're facing, even if it's me."

Sherman seemed to genuinely not want anything from her or to hear her answer. After saying that, he gently tousled Melody's hair. "Alright, today has been exhausting enough for you. I've said more than enough. I'm glad you patiently listened to me. Now... go rest." Melody blinked slowly. It was not until Sherman let her in and was about to close the door behind her that she suddenly called out to him.

"Sherman!"

"Yeah?"

"Can you give me a bit more time to think it over? Is that okay?"

During his confession, Sherman had already prepared himself for the unrequited love to come to an end silently. He did not expect to hear Melody's response. He nodded almost ecstatically. "Of course! Take your time! Alright, get some rest!"

After Sherman left, Melody set her crutches aside and slowly made her way to the sofa with the support of the wall. She was not sure if she could leave Lucas. After all, she was bound to him by the contract. However, she was quite certain that he no longer had any feelings for her, a fact that left her feeling particularly bitter. After all, he would not have suspected her of hurting Thalia if he had even a little bit of feelings for her.

"I never thought falling in love for the first time would be this painful. Lucas, I don't want to continue anymore. I don't want to love you anymore."

Melody whispered these words to the empty room, with no one but herself present. Eventually, tears streamed down her face.

Meanwhile, Lucas was still by Thalia's bedside. Despite the doctor's assurance that Thalia was not seriously injured and would wake up in about half an hour, Lucas refused to leave until she regained consciousness. He could not bear the thought of anything happening to Claudia's sister after what happened to Claudia herself.

He also promised Claudia's father that he would take good care of Thalia from then on. He blamed himself for what happened to Thalia because if he had handled the conflict between Melody and Thalia properly, Thalia would not have ended up in the hospital.
